The Mets Still Need More Money
Mets Need A Loan: “The Mets, in need of cash to pay off loans and meet other financial obligations, can no longer look to Major League Baseball for substantial monetary assistance, according to two people briefed on the team’s finances. The league, having already extended the Mets a $25 million loan in November to help the team meet operating costs, will not make another major loan to the club.” As a reeling Randolph Duke famously demanded at the end of Trading Places … Sell! MLB should push for the sale of the mets, get someone who can actually afford to finance the team in there.
mark cuban would be great in that market.

I’m not in the mood to discuss any more politics today. Can we get a post where we can make fun of people?

Fred Wilpon is constantly portrayed as a nice guy who no one ever has a bad thing to say about. Last August when reporters asked him if Omar Minaya will be back next year, he replied arrogantly “is the sun going to come up tomorrow”. At the same time another reporter asked him if he felt his son Jeff was doing a good job. Arrogant response again. “Everyone knows Jeff is doing a good job”
Make no mistake about it. The Wilpons did not want such a strong minded, smart GM such as Sandy Alderson. It was forced on then in November. Selig prob. told Wilpon either hire Alderson or no loan. Wilpon had no choice.

Didn’t the Wilpons get in financial trouble because the got more from Madoff than they put in, and had to write a big check to the reciever? They didn’t exactly mismanage their funds, they were naive in who they trusted (and were too willing to believe the lie that he perpetrated)

Wouldn’t be surprised.

“That’s Randy like Randy Jackson in the Jackson 5 isn’t it?”
“Uh yes, I suppose it is”.
Trading Places was the very first movie I ever bought on DVD.

Contract the Mets!
/TBL
I don’t think TBL would ever assert that a New York sports team should be contracted. His answer, no matter the team, is usually to contract the Pirates.

I know this was a joke, but MLB doesn’t need to contract anyone. I imagine they will expand to 32 teams sometime in the next decade or so.

Please, dont even kid around about something like that. We already have the Steinbrenners and the Dolan.
