Last night, BYU forward Brandon Davies was dismissed from the basketball team for an undisclosed Honor Code violation. As expected, rumors flew today about the reason for the suspension.

Iowa State offensive lineman Zack Spears tweeted that Davies was suspended for getting his girlfriend – who, according to Spears is allegedly an Arizona State volleyball player – pregnant. How an ISU lineman could make this claim is difficult to fathom. (If you’re wondering, there’s a BYU transfer on the ASU volleyball team and a freshman from Utah.)

Hans Olsen, the morning show host at 1280 the Zone in Utah, discussed the rumored pregnancy today, but the show’s program director told us via email, “it had nothing to do with a volleyball player or even another BYU student.” Hans didn’t return an email seeking clarification.

I called and spoke with BYU spokesperson Carri Jenkins today and she said that Davies is still a student at BYU and is awaiting the results of an “Honor Code review.” Jenkins said that, “the decision that was made is that he would not represent the university or the basketball team for the rest of the season.” A decision regarding his status as a student has yet to be made.

Jenkins also said that she was not aware of any student-athletes from any other schools being involved.

[UPDATE: 10:45 pm - According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Davies admitted to having "sexual relations with his girlfriend." The paper's report says nothing about a pregnancy.]
