Rip Hamilton: Trade-Nixing A-Hole
The mess that is the Detroit Pistons continues to roll. The biggest news out of Detroit yesterday isn’t that the Pistons actually pulled together to win a game of basketball, but that it turns out most of the strife coming from the Pistons’ locker room has to do with Richard Hamilton. Adrian Wojnarowski has the gory details.
As stunned coaches and teammates watched, Hamilton bellowed at Kuester that he had been a failure in his two seasons in Detroit, blown the opportunity the franchise afforded him and was nothing more than a career assistant coach, sources said. Despite Hamilton yelling within inches of him, Kuester didn’t respond.
Younger players were “mortified.” Hamilton has the ears of “a powerful lobby of veterans” like Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince. Because of his huge contract, the Pistons had trouble moving Hamilton before the trade deadline. Surprisingly, there was a chance to get rid of him.
Pistons general manager Joe Dumars and Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant had an agreement to send Hamilton and a lottery-protected 2012 first-round draft pick for a $12.6 million trade exception and a second-round draft pick on Thursday, sources said. Cleveland was mostly interested in the draft pick, but was willing to let Hamilton join the team for the remainder of his contract. Once Hamilton made clear he didn’t want to play for a last-place team, his representatives discussed a contract buyout that would’ve allowed him to likely join the Chicago Bulls, sources said.
He has obviously lost his mind. They got him out of Detroit. They were guarunteeing him money. He was going to end up on one of the top 3 seeds in a wide-open Eastern Conference. Instead, he decided to stay and make life Hell for Kuester and the franchise that got him a championship ring.

I wonder if the coach was just waiting for him to take the facemask off before he hit him in the face.

What a Richard.

Not every coach can be Jim Calhoun, Rip.

the play at 4:45 might be the greatest piece of football footage of all time.

Penn and Fitch fought to a draw last night? What the hell happened? I was out, didn’t see any of the fights.

The footwork at 5:19 at full speed is awesome.

i love old school NFL highlights…everything just looks so pure and beautiful.

Jim Brown could run the football and kill Nazis like nobody’s fucking business.
/Troof’d
And it’s a Cot damn shame to hear some national media guys ripping the Pistons coach for “giving the game away” by playing six guys. It’s called “making a fucking point,” dickheads. I still love when a coach takes a stand like that.

Just another example of Detroit getting what it deserves. Classless fans for classless players.

Basically Rip Hamilton is what everybody hates about sports. What a clown.
Some of those goal line videos are great in that Jim Brown video, those Browns guards and lineman (most of are HOF too) all just explode of the ball too. JB flawless victory.

Your mother’s a whore
February 27th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
Or Larry Brown.

How so, when, clearly, the run at 5:25 is even better.
Goddamn, that footage is like watching Marcus Dupree in high school. The difference being, Marcus was going against children. Brown was going against men who were trying to hurt him.

Hamilton is not only dumb but he is also a prick

Detroit – third world city, but the best third world city this side of the capital of Sudan.

Because the national media guys probably get the point that this is the NBA, not the scene from some high school sports movie. If the coach wanted to make a point, he should have made it when Rip was in his face and everyone was watching.
February 27th, 2011 at 1:20 PM
Because being professional means taking a swing at a player. Sure.
February 27th, 2011 at 1:23 PM
Who said anything about taking a swing at a player?

“professional” means not mouthing off and calling your coach a lifetime assistant in front of others. “professional” means showing up on time and not half-assing it.

So he was told “Look, we get you out of Detroit and away from Kuester. The Cavs will simply buy your contract out. You take a 30-day break to rest and recharge and then you’re free to sign with the Celtics, the Heat, the Bulls, the Knicks or any other team you want to go to.”
And he said “No”???
I think he just doesn’t want to let go of the power he’s got with his group of homeys in the locker room. In any other place, he’s just another guy. In Detroit, he’s the Man.
And no one will tell him what the fuck to do.

a professional coach would have realized that Hamilton is one of the leaders on that team, and would have confronted that situation head on and flexed his authority instead of saying nothing. He validated what Hamilton said about his being a lifetime assistant. Because lifetime assistants are the one’s who often take the brunt of anger directed at the head coach. Professionals, who have accumulated accomplishments and/or tenure “mouth off” everyday, whether it be in an NBA lockerroom, a boardroom, or in a warehouse. That comes with knowing your worth.

Darrell: Keeping The White Man Down since he has been alive.
so the coach is wrong for not sinking to hamilton’s level with name calling? makes sense darrell
February 27th, 2011 at 4:37 PM
You keep the White Man down every time you open your mouth.
Who said anything about namecalling? If Hamilton was being insubordinate in the manner that was described, the coach should have addressed it head on and either suspended him or taken some of his money. Instead, he ignorend it and the situation feastered. But if you’re not going to suspend someone, then it’s your job to put the best team out there to win a game. On that team, that includes putting Hamilton out there. Even a 4 year Private such as yourself should be able to understand that.

Refs in this game must be some TBL posters. Two plays in a row where Kobe was fouled. On the second play, the ref wasn’t even looking at the play!
February 27th, 2011 at 5:03 PM
really? This coming from you doesn’t make sense. But
that does.
February 27th, 2011 at 5:21 PM
At this point, is there anything Kuester can do to retain his job? Or is it a foregone conclusion that he is gone?
February 27th, 2011 at 5:46 PM
I like to blend idiocy with normal shit….a lot of times there is more idiocy than normal shit.
February 28th, 2011 at 2:21 AM
For any sane, well run team he’d be gone. However, Joe Dumars is a moron so who knows.
