Torrey Smith is a Sick Athlete Whose Draft Stock Should Skyrocket at the NFL Combine
All, NFL Combine, Video February 24th. 2011, 2:30pm
One of the many athletic freaks expected to watch their draft stock soar at the NFL Combine this week is receiver Torrey Smith of Maryland. He’s a burner with sub-4.3 40 speed who also might have a vertical leap at or around 40 inches. Here he is pulling off the Vince Carter arm-in-the-basket dunk. Smith could probably work his way into the Top 20 … unless teams remember another Maryland WR with speed who has done little in the league so far, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and get skittish. Ah, Combine-itis: the condition where scouts, coaches and GMs fall in love with freakish athletes wearing shorts and tees and doing stuff that is secondary to actual football.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:32 PM
jared gaither too.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:33 PM
If there’s one thing I NEED my receivers be able to do, it’s put their arm in a basketball rim
February 24th, 2011 at 2:35 PM
EJ Henderson, (who is still playing decent football despite snapping his fucking leg) Kris Jenkins, Merriman (we know why), Dominique Foxworth.

One more for you Spence: Lights Out. Hmm, maybe he can provide a clue…

I wish all the best for Torrey Smith. He has had a hell of a tough life and turned out to be a great guy. Hope that he gets into the Top 20.

hilarious
February 24th, 2011 at 2:40 PM
/high fives
Maryland has some real freaks in the league. And you can normally see them be good at the college level. Ralph must have been REALLY underachieving.

It’s the entire ACC. Their coaches must be terrible.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:42 PM
larry coker would’ve squandered it better.
/there, happy?
February 24th, 2011 at 2:43 PM
Spencer, I think the problem in the ACC isn’t the lack of athletes. Err’body in the league pumps out NFL players at a rate totally incongrous to their winning percentages. Two really good QBs have come from the conference in recent memory and they weren’t from FSU, Miami, UNC, UVa, Va Tech or Maryland
February 24th, 2011 at 2:45 PM
Yes. Glad that he is gone.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:45 PM
what’s the other one not named matt ryan? schaub is from UVA, vick from VT…
February 24th, 2011 at 2:45 PM
I could have made that more clear: the really talented teams in the ACC have problems developing good QBs and it fucks everything up for them. Which I guess is really just saying there’s a huge coaching deficit from the ACC to the more elite conferences
February 24th, 2011 at 2:46 PM
Phil I’m guessing
February 24th, 2011 at 2:46 PM
Something called a Nick Schrank laughs at this video.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:46 PM
Schaub and Vick were both winners in college but they’re also pretty far removed from their college days. I was thinking of Rivers

Someone’s been reading too much huffy puffy duffy.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:47 PM
Are we all on a first name basis with him now, like Ben?
February 24th, 2011 at 2:48 PM
BTW, Phil is a stupid name, I don’t like it. Next time someone says, “Hi, I’m Phil.” I’m gonna respond, “Fuck you.”
February 24th, 2011 at 2:48 PM

and i’ll rub my belly and pat my head at the same time.
February 24th, 2011 at 2:53 PM
To get back to the point of this post, I don’t think DHB’s track record of non-production is going to impact Torrey Smith one bit. Smith is a better WR to begin with but he’ll get drafted probably a little closer to his projection in the late first/early second. You know, at least a round & a half before DHB was supposed to get picked
February 24th, 2011 at 2:53 PM
For those of use without QuickTime.

February 24th, 2011 at 2:55 PM

February 24th, 2011 at 2:55 PM
There’s not much there. However, you at least get to know where the movie takes place apparently. I’ll go see it. For some reason, I don’t see it topping the first.
Hopefully there is at least one Narddog song.
