Eagles Team President Joe Banner is Delusional
More successful franchise NFL over the last 11 years, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh? Too easy, right? Not if you ask Eagles’ Team President Joe Banner:
Banner tried to assert that the six-time Super Bowl champion Steelers, who have appeared in three of the last six Super Bowls and won two of them, really aren’t any more successful than the Eagles on balance, because they haven’t made the playoffs nine of the last 11 years, or been to five conference championship games in the last decade, the way the Eagles have.
I decided to look up playoff records over the last 11 years.
Pittsburgh 12-5
Philadelphia 10-9
Of note: Pittsburgh missed the playoffs four times in that duration. Twice, they were 9-7. Once they were 8-8. They’ve had one losing record in the last 11 years (2003, 6-10). Philly has missed the playoffs twice in that span, once at 6-10, the other at 8-8.
Clearly, these have been two of the elite franchises in the league over the last 11 years. Only one losing season each is impressive. But the phrase “aren’t any more successful” is laughable, because more Pittsburgh having more playoff victories, more Super Bowl appearances (3-1), and more Super Bowl wins (2-0) is “considerably more successful.”

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won I’d have 0 nickels.
February 17th, 2011 at 6:50 PM
If the Steelers had a nickel for every Superbowl they’ve won, they wouldn’t have enough for a hooker, and would still have to go eff themselves.

The NFC is trash.
So CRM goes from hobo-grunge-flannel to shiny-eurotrash-hipster. I think the flannel was actually better. For the record way too much shirt talk around here today.

I can’t imagine what the internet would be like for a week if everyone had to put their name on everything (comments, tweets, you name it).
world a better place?
February 17th, 2011 at 8:33 PM
Ummm, New England also only has 1 losing season in the past 11, and if you change it to the past 10 then they have zero. 3 SB wins in 4 appearances, 14-5 playoff record.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:34 PM
Quieter, for sure. Wouldn’t change for me, though.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:35 PM
I can’t imagine what the internet would be like for a week if everyone had to put their name on everything (comments, tweets, you name it).

That is a very interesting question. I’m sure it would change for some people. I’m not sure how much would change on here most people are mostly honest it seems. I know I don’t say anything I wouldn’t if people knew me. I’m sure a decent amount of people are different though who knows.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:38 PM
SMD – I think the quality commenters – the ones who never/rarely get into pissing contests, or bitch about the content, and just roll with things and have fun and never take anything too seriously … THEY’D be fine.
Other guys? The tough-talking dbags, the pissy ones who bitch and moan, etc?
I think they’d disappear. Just my guess. Or they’d be a lot less mouthy.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:39 PM
agree, St. Bear. For You and 90% of commenters … nothing changes.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:39 PM
Let me rephrase that. My actions wouldn’t change, but I would be on here much less during the day for work reasons.

by the way, can someone explain to me what got bulldog so hot and bothered?
February 17th, 2011 at 8:54 PM
why not just disable comments altogether, if this is the case?
i mean, almost every single regular commenter has gotten into a pissing match at one time or another. every regular commenter has bitched about content or site design or something.
here’s the way i see it…TBL, you wrote a regrettable post. mrejr and a few others took a joke about it and beat it into the ground until it was old hat after about an hour and a half. and even then, i think a lot of the commenters overreacted to the issue to begin with.
it happened, it ruffled feathers, but is it really worth expelling people over? just let the “issue” die and move on.
February 17th, 2011 at 9:00 PM
/puts on Roy Halladay Phillies jersey
I honestly don’t care and don’t see the need to get into pissing matches here TBL, I just want to have fun and enjoy the stories and discussion.
February 17th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
Spencer I think tbl is venting from a derogatory comment directed at him. personally, I think some of the back and forth between commentors is what makes this place fun.
February 17th, 2011 at 9:02 PM
Wow, must have missed all that. It was posted on quite a few news sites early this morning, TBL was not the first place I saw it. I dont recall anything particularly snarky about the post. People sure get offended easily.

February 17th, 2011 at 9:09 PM
I thought it was a crappy post but, like I think we agreed upon in the monster roundup thread, it sucked because it wasn’t funny. The Bulldog twitter shit went pretty far beyond any line that exists. Not sure you have to worry about him coming back here anyway, but I don’t have a problem with that banning. As far as using your real name on the internet – I already do that so fuck it
February 17th, 2011 at 9:10 PM
1st time I watched The Office this year. AWFUL. WTF is this?
Some shows just don’t know when to retire. I doubt it even lasts a season after Michael Scott leaves. Although if they hired Benjamin Linus of lost fame as the new manager I think greatness would happen.

They had a teaser earlier this season that Ricky Gervais was “looking for a new job”. If that happens, well, I’ll keep watching.

February 17th, 2011 at 9:24 PM
Yeah, that’s the thing with these historical shows on HBO. I think Boardwalk will last only 3 seasons because of this. I think that pilot cost around 15-20 million.

just read this cool story about an airedale terrier in new zealand…paddy the wanderer.
the dog’s owner died and he just chilled in the city, riding around on taxis and trains and shit. random dock workers and locals would pay his registration every year, and he eventually started sneaking onto planes and ships. it’s even rumored this dog snuck onto a ship and made it to san fransisco and back.
when his health went, the city gave him an honorary rat killing position, and he got his own bed in the city’s hospital when he was near death. when he died, they held a ticker-tape parade for him and built a water fountain as a monument.

She’s was sleeping with a married man, the reporter who spazzed out was having an obvious medical problem live on tv, not exactly the same thing.
Plus one is ugly, the other is not.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:03 PM
I haven’t seen much of the Preds this season, but any team with Shane O’Brien on it has to be worth cheering for!
Such a well run organization. Makes me sad to watch them whilst Oilers management pisses on the fans and tells them it’s raining.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:04 PM
My thought: perfect time to bring back the archives.
Also can we bring back the commenters write the mock draft posts for their teams? That was an awesome feature.
/I’ll hang up and listen

Some might say ugliness is a medical condition
February 17th, 2011 at 10:06 PM
This
Not really trying to compare the situation, but I was just saying how it seemed more light hearted back then.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:06 PM
As someone who grew up in Edmonton through the “glory years” of the Oilers, saddens me too. I think it’s heading in the right direction, though. Isn’t it?
February 17th, 2011 at 10:06 PM
Not as bad as the diarrhea rain the Leafs have been dumping on saps for about 50 years.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:08 PM

I was living in Edmonton during that time as well, nothing will ever compare to those teams. Still live here, there are some great pieces in place but it’s hard to trust that the guys that got the team into the mess have the sense to get them out of it.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:09 PM
I very well may have jumped in on those comments as well. No way to tell anymore. The autotune video to me came across in bad taste. Feels different than the Broke Hundley post. Possibly because it came across as mocking someone who had a medical event of some sort. The original video is one thing, a mocking auto-tune is another.

44 years, but who is counting?
February 17th, 2011 at 10:09 PM
Finally caught up. Since when is bitching about content and pissing matches not hilarious and fun to take part in/read? When did this happen?
February 17th, 2011 at 10:09 PM
you guys are gonna make me tear up. I suggest we go back to insulting each other. COME AT ME, BRO!!!!!!!!
By the way, ugliness as a medical condition was a joke lest anyone tries to seriously debate my last point.

Meh. Its not like TBL made the video, and it was pretty much presented w/o comment.

THIS GUY
February 17th, 2011 at 10:12 PM
I left about the same time Gretzky did for the west coast, though I fondly remember that last cup in 89 (right)?
And nothing makes me happier seeing the Leafs – and the Flames hopefully – facing years of wandering around in the wilderness!
February 17th, 2011 at 10:13 PM
Brooke Hundley was/is a fat chick who banged a married man who worked at ESPN and in the MLB for the Mets and sucked at both jobs. I remember that thread like it was yesterday. That was the same thread in which I was desperately pleading with TBL to interview Jerry Rice when he gave us a choice of Rice, Seau, or Doyle Brunson.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:15 PM
Fantastic.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:15 PM

They traded Gretzky in ’88, won their last cup (to date) in ’90. Moved to Saskatoon shortly after that last cup and then to Vancouver, been back here for 10 years.
And nothing makes me happier seeing the Leafs – and the Flames hopefully – facing years of wandering around in the wilderness!
You and I are going to get along just fine.

In case anyone missed Chrissy Teigen’s Tweet re: our very own CRM, here ’tis in all it’s unPhotoshopped glory.

Glad you clarified.

Almost more Canadiens red at Rexall tonight than Oilers blue. Can’t really fault ticket holders from selling out.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:19 PM
1st time I ever visited this site was the Brooke Hundley post. Everyone was fucking murdering her, and no one cared. Those comments were classic.
KC Resident, Hawkeye, any thoughts on this?
TBL: a couple things. I said to you on twitter and here initially I thought she was having a stroke. Lots of us did. It was still a medical condition. Now…
1. Idiots like us making fun of others or making inappropriate comments in the comment section of a typical TBL post is different than the proprietor of the blog doing it in post form for all to see. To some, it “cheapens your brand”
2. It has absolutely no connection to sports whatsoever, so to make a post out of “non-typical” TBL post material, it was a strange topic to pick
February 17th, 2011 at 10:19 PM
Complicity on her part.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:20 PM
Nice. CRM must have put some Axe on.

Let’s not mince words here.

I hate the Ducks. They picked up that rat Ruutu today for a bag of pucks. He will fit right in with that band of trashy vagabonds.

February 17th, 2011 at 10:21 PM
on that topic There were red wings fans in tampa than at the Joe for a home game.

+1. Hated them since the day they joined the league.

Ruutu and Lapierre on a line, same team as Perry. Gotta be 3 of the most hated guys in the league.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:24 PM
I hope so – don’t want to get left behind when the Zombie apocalypse gets here. This site’s been required reading for me for a while, but between kids, being on the west coast, and laziness – I seem to miss the chance to comment. Liking the hockey talk too.
I have a particular dislike of the Leafs (does there have to be a reason?) because of Burke. He left the Canucks pretty bare in terms of prospects, and it’s taken some time to get the depth they have now (which still might not be enough)!
I went to an AHL game between the Marlies (Toronto’s prospects) and Abbotsford (Flames prospects) last week and didn’t recognize more than one or two players. Pretty dire.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:25 PM
Also, most of the time when people go after someone here its because of something that the person caused themselves as a result of their own actions- Brooke Hundley, Cromarty and his 10 kids, etc. The reporter had no control over what happened to her.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:25 PM
Anyone catch this TechCrunch article on Bleacher Report? Unbelievable. The comments are spot on.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:27 PM
I wouldn’t exactly say that:

I hope the Leafs give Burke a liftime contract, though I had the same hope for Sutter in Cowtown and that didn’t work out. Canucks are fortunate to have some depth given their rash of injuries to the blueline. I really like Hodgson and Shirokov looks like he can play some.
You’re right though, both the Flames and Leafs prospect pipelines are pretty bare. You know they are in trouble when the Leafs had to eat Lupul’s contract to pry a former 1st rounder out of Anaheim.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:29 PM
When you look at some of the other teams in sports, 44 years is not as bad as it sounds.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:30 PM
I really wish Twitter links would paste properly. Right odd.

Dr. Cornholio nailed it.
We all have misses. That post happened to be one. Shit happens. Let’s move on.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:32 PM
Yeah, but leafs are original six, they should be a contender (for other reasons as wekk). So, their crapitude is even more enjoyable, and their legions of fans make it even more enjoyable.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:33 PM
Yep. Over and done. Hopefully everyone takes something out of it. In a good way.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:37 PM
It’s a good thing they have something of a lead to play with, considering they’re on their 11 or 12th defencemen. Pretty funny actually and it sounds like a few are getting going again. Hodgson I like too, played well here a couple of weeks ago. Shirokov looks like he finally gets it, and isn’t showing up overweight like he did earlier this year. They’ve got some other guys looking pretty solid too, though I wish they had kept Grabner. I get why they did it, but he would have been nice to have.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:39 PM
What makes it funny is that they still sell-out, like the fans don’t expect anything but a “corporate night out” anymore. In other places – even in Canada- people would just stop showing up. Not many organizations in any sport that seem so ‘bullet proof.’
February 17th, 2011 at 10:40 PM

Hey, at least they got Ballard back when they moved Grabner. The Panthers lost him for nothing. Realistically, he was buried down with the Moose, probably wasn’t going to get top 6 minutes in Vancouver.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:45 PM
Good final word.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:47 PM
Edmonton has 42 points. lol. 15 behind colorado. Ouch, didn’t realize it was that bad.

Derrick Rose doesn’t
MVP!
February 17th, 2011 at 10:49 PM
Pretty much. And he was someone of value they could trade, which doesn’t happen very often with the Canucks! I just wonder if he doesn’t have more upside than Raymond…
Getting Ballard was huge, as was Hamhuis.
Still can’t believe the Canucks are in first, and the Oilers dead last!
February 17th, 2011 at 10:51 PM

February 17th, 2011 at 11:03 PM
Short term no. Given their history though, a little bit.
I’m probably more surprised at where the Canucks are at, and that they seem to be pretty professional about it. They have always been one of those teams (I’m sure we could all name a few others!) that freaks out when they start winning, and goes into the tank. It’s why many of their fans are so insufferable at times – expect the worst so when it happens you can talk about how much they suck kind of thing.
February 17th, 2011 at 11:08 PM
Young Oilers beating up on the Habs tonight.
I’m actually happy the Oilers bottomed out. They were stuck on the 8~10th place carousel for too long.

not a fan of the manufactured–let’s make it to 1000 comments fellas, what do you say–posts. i was with the RU for the first 200 comments, which is normal, came back a couple hours later and it’s at 600 and guys are making up topics to further the cause. i hardly ever skip a post once i start, but that was a button pusher

Hey, only just over three months until CFL starts training camp – there’s something to look forward to. If I remember correctly that’s about the time it stops snowing in Edmonton too right?
