Jay Mariotti Was Indeed on Whitlock’s Podcast, and He’s Still as Smug As You Might Imagine
Jay Mariotti: Sounding defiant and angry, as if he were somehow wronged, I listened to Mariotti on Jason Whitlock’s podcast. Well, I had to stop listening after Mariotti was insistent that LeGarrette Blount should have gone to jail for punching that Boise State kid on the field after the Oregon game. Mariotti seems to struggle with logic and reason, and he remains the same knee-jerk simpleton who polluted TV and newspapers for the last decade. If you thought he’d be humbled by the arrest and losing his jobs at ESPN and Fanhouse, think again. [Real Talk]

I listened to Mariotti on Jason Whitlock’s podcast.
I’m sorry.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:02 PM
He is the only person on earth that’s still thinking about the LeGarrette Blount punch.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:03 PM
Stupid is as stupid does.

February 16th, 2011 at 1:04 PM
How much time was spent on his latest soapbox?
February 16th, 2011 at 1:07 PM
Mariotti needs to remember that women beaters are despised in jail and he would’ve been turned inside out if he wasn’t acquitted on 6 of his 7 charges.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:07 PM
Ugh… Where is Duffy’s CL preview post for today.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:08 PM
So disappointed I can’t watch the Arsenal-Barca game.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:09 PM
Should have got Ozzie Guillen on the line as well, I would have listened then
The sports world is better without Mariotti in it
February 16th, 2011 at 1:09 PM
He is the only person on earth that’s still thinking about the LeGarrette Blount punch.
Most people forgave him that when he proved a quality fantasy RB.
Priorities, people. Priorities.

To which Whitlock responded the Jeff George would have been arrested because the world has it out for him.

Don’t know, but found a preview earlier.

February 16th, 2011 at 1:14 PM
mariotti is only four courics.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:14 PM
His AOL/HuffPo conspiracy theory was all kinds of terrible awesome, but when Big Sexy asked him point-blank, about 12m in, if he did nothing that night, Mariotti rambled for a full 2:40 speaking in circles. He peppered it with “if we had gone to trial…” a couple of times, and my favorite, “how I was describe that night is not me”.
I do have high hopes for Whitlock’s long format interviews.

Listened to it last night. Yeah, once a POS, always a POS. He will get a column and continue to same act as before. I was glad to hear whitlock challenge him on few points rather than giving jay a free reign to say whatever he said.
I know it’s an unpopular opinion. But I’m a fan of Whitlock even though I don’t always agree with him. I will subscribe to his show.

I think Whitlock has taken a downturn the past 6 months or so. His addiction to adding characters from “The Wire” into every article annoys me, and I love that show. I also think he is getting into the arena of starting shit just for the sake of doing it.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:19 PM
You have got to be fucking kidding.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:19 PM
True, but I just call the other one gray dick.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:21 PM
I am starting a new gimmick where i constantly talk about characters form st elsewhere in my columns Im changing my name to Mason Whitlock
February 16th, 2011 at 1:22 PM
His twitter isn’t even unintentionally funny or informative or even bombastic. I don’t know why I still follow him.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:22 PM
Don’t get me wrong. The man is a ego-maniac in need of constant validation. But one thing I cannot stand are sanctimonious virgin sportswriters smiting anyone and everything from their high horse. Whitlock bravely calls out his colleagues and their hypocritical takes of the sports they cover.

Jay Mariotti has issues of self-importance and paranoia that can only be solved through therapy and probably pharmacological drugs.

February 16th, 2011 at 1:30 PM
the man is an attention whore. But unlike jay mariotti, skip bayless, screaming a smith etc, occasionally there’s substance behind his argument. I wouldn’t want to work with him and by all accounts he is the type of person that turns into a petulant child whenever he doesn’t get his way, but even with all that, he does come up with some good arguments.

February 16th, 2011 at 1:46 PM
I need to take you through a journey through your tweets, for one. You’re very dismissive and stubborn. I’ve rarely ever seen you give someone daps for a point that was different from your own. You find your way to make some very good arguments. Your HOF piece was really well done, but just because PK may have misinterpreted something you had done as calling him a racist didn’t mean you had to go back and insult even more.
You coming in here is a statement to how much you want to be stroked for your opinions and your desire to shake shit up instead of actually causing more provocative thought.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:47 PM

I love The Wire and will always reference the show. I do it on Twitter far more than I do it in my columns. Twitter is free. You don’t have to follow. You are not a customer.

I come here, post on other message boards and do Twitter because I’m a sports fan no different from you or any other sports fan. I’ve been posting on message boards since the first days of AOL. Am I supposed to stay off here because I’m a “journalist”? Don’t I get to be me? Why can’t I interact with sports fans?
February 16th, 2011 at 1:50 PM
Jason-
Enjoyed your discussion on Inside NFL awhile back discussing the NFL looking at “character” athletes when drafting.
Was Sapp really pissed at you as he seemed?

Uhm, bro, you’ve come in here for the Lisk post that referenced a Whitlock article and for this thread when somehow you caught a comment speaking kind of ill about you. If I’ve missed the other times in the past several months, please, enlighten me. We’ve got people here who are very good at combing posts for comments. I have no problem with you commenting, but the times you’ve dropped in have been to deal with something about you.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:55 PM
Whitlock:
I (and many others I would imagine) wish you’d come in here to comment more often, as just opposed to showing up on posts that concern you personally.
February 16th, 2011 at 1:55 PM
I did enjoy when Mariotti played the Peter King’s daughter card. Seriously, like or hate Mariotti, the podcast is a must-listen for how much dude doesn’t get it. He’s like that one time when Jimmy McNulty…

Peter King blatantly played the victim card in his last column. Deserved to be called out. But Whitlock, I had major problem with your Koman Coulibally article from the world cup. In that instance, I think you were unfair to Peter King. EVERYONE and their GRANDMOTHER complains about the refereeing at the world cup.
