The Decision: Jadeveon Clowney to South Carolina
There was no Jim Gray, no gingham shirt, and no charitable window dressing, but the nation’s #1 recruit Jadeveon Clowney finally made his decision. The beastly defensive end, if he can qualify academically, will play for the University of South Carolina, disappointing Alabama, Clemson and the first school that caught his eye. It will be interesting to see how Steve Spurrier clears room for him. He’s already on NFL radars. According to Luginbill he can help SC’s pass rush immediately, but will need some time to develop into a well-rounded defensive end.

Fuck this clown
Again, Cowherd nailed it. LeBron is CRUSHED for The Decision, but there’s joy here because some retarded assclown is going to South Cackalacky, when he doesn’t even qualify
February 14th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
So he can announce “I’m a Cock!” and be right on two fronts
/Veal
February 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
Again, don’t know who he is. The video shows an athletic freak. My only comment on this is…
The Ole Ballcoach STILL got it.
/Team Visor, only thing I like about the SEC
February 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
It’s not the same thing. You can’t compare the two.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
17 other HS players made their decision on ESPN this year. Picking on Clowney is comical.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
don’t hate the player, hate the game…i.e. the recruiting services and college football addicts (like myself, admittedly) who eat it up. without the attention, there wouldn’t be any fanfare.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:42 AM
Apples to unicorns.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:43 AM
I’s goin to souf cairolinea. but i cant read too good so i be 35 by the time i qualify
February 14th, 2011 at 10:43 AM
jpq, they’re both jackasses.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:44 AM
17 other HS players made their decision on ESPN two weeks ago. Picking on Clowney is comical because he wanted to wait until his birthday.
I guess holding up a scholarship isn’t a big deal
February 14th, 2011 at 10:44 AM
He knew where he was going and he waited. Yes, fuck him.
/but not nearly on the “fuck LeBron” level
February 14th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
He wasn’t holding up a scholarship. They need to cull players to get down to 85.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
Really? We’re comparing a HS kid’s COLLEGE signing day press conference to a multi-millionaire having an hour long TV special to say he is signing a multi-million dollar deal with a different team?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
jpq, they’re both jackasses.
cj: 100% agree, but at least LeBron had actually done something. This dope may be a complete bust & it’s all fantastic. Wonder if he would have gotten the love if he picked FSU?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
And sorry, yeah. Huge difference between LeBron selling and packaging a 1-hour National TV special in ode to himself and Sportscenter asking to cut live to this kid’s announcement.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
Even if he isn’t academically eligible it just means he can’t play or travel his first year. He can practice. It will be like red-shirting him.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
lol. Yeah they weren’t holding a scholarship either because he ain’t qualifying. If he does, then NCAA football is beyond being able to be taken seriously after the Cam Newton debacle.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
I’m sure the players themselves will work the roster down to 85
/Saban’d
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
IT’S NOT THE SAME THING!!!!
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
When did anyone take college football seriously?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
huh? If he isn’t eligible he won’t be admitted to USCjr. Right?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
He wasn’t holding up a scholarship. They need to cull players to get down to 85.
and weren’t you railing against oversigning just last week
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
People were waiting for him to sign with Bama so that they could crucify Saban and so that they could cry about oversigning again.
Yes, Carolina is SEC too, but they are not perceived as the problem.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
Relatively speaking of course.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
if he was going to LSU, you wouldn’t care. the only reason people are pissed is because he’s going to sakerlina and not a real, life football program.
/glares at jayV
//but seriously, what seantrel henderson did last year is 1,000,000x worse than clowney waiting
February 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
Hence the comment and link about it in the post.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:51 AM
University standards and NCAA eligibility standards are two different things. You can be admitted to the school but not deemed an Academic Final Qualifier by the Eligibilty Center (formerly known as the Clearinghouse). If the school won’t accept him then yeah he won’t go there but if he gets in he has a year to get his grades right and then he can play.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
Right, but I thought his situation was closer to the former. Like, he ain’t getting into school, much less having bad grades for a semester.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
I have never seen those words used in that way before today.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
Yeah we would, because then LSU would have just an obscene amount of playmakers everywhere but QB and… oh, wait… that’s the story every year? Fuck.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
As I said last week, I’m still pissed about Janzen Jackson. This whole system stinks where National Signing Day is National Signing Day, unless it isn’t or you don’t want it to be.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
cant stand late signees. prima donna assholes.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Wait, he’s still in high school, right? He’s already academically inelligible? What happens if he doesnt graduate?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
Gotcha. I haven’t clicked the stories academics, I thought the coach was talking about the NCAA standards.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
I just watched about 3 minutes of that video. After reading about how dumb this kid is, coupled with the size/level of competition he played again, I’ll crown his ass when he does something against a real team
February 14th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
I’m pissed too.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:57 AM
Why are we hating on another teenager again? I’m keeping a list.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
He could certainly end up being a bust. There’s always that chance.
February 14th, 2011 at 10:58 AM
, I’ll crown his ass when he does something against a real team
exactly. late signees always end up being shitty. see, pryor, terrell
February 14th, 2011 at 10:59 AM
Seriously, what is the purpose of designating a “National Signing Day?” What would happen if, say, the Knicks decided to trade for Carmelo Anthony in March?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:59 AM
because you’re fulfilling stereotypes
February 14th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
Yea, you have so much first-hand knowledge of the situation.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
As of right now I’m noting that in this case it’s because “ESPN devoted a few minutes to him on a Monday in February when the sports world is hibernating”. And also, “Colin Cowherd”.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
The former is the first day those letters can be recognized by schools and the ncaa. The latter is actually past a deadline.

February 14th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
what? is he 25teen?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
I’d take him on Nebraska now that they are going to the fucking gay-ass spread.
/cries
February 14th, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Lol.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
No one should run that gimmicky high school offense.

February 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
what? is he 25teen?
Nice.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
No one should run that gimmicky high school offense.
/spencer’d
Needs more ‘hully gully football’.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
That Spencer dude must be a smart guy.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
if nobody ran that gay offense, who would i hate on?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:05 AM
Calm down. USCjr oversigned for a reason. Just like Quarles, Clowney isn’t enrolling right away.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
you’re not really comparing high school kids – who have been doing this for years – to LeBron’s TV show, are you?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
Why are we hating on another teenager again? I’m keeping a list.
because you’re fulfilling stereotypes
believe it or not “Rich Old White Guy” doesn’t hate teenagers. He hates people that feel the need to receive all this attention for no reason.
what stereotype does hipster douchebag guy fulfill?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:07 AM

//pryor’s good and yall are just being assholes
not being and asshole. he isnt that great, or as great as he wanted us to think he was while he waited 3 months past signing day to commit. fuck that guy.

February 14th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
You wanna wager on that?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
Oversigned is putting it lightly. They signed like 33 guys, right?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Montemayer?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
he’s better than you think and nobody could live up to the hype, which is his fault.
but you’re a buckeye hater anyways, so i’ve come to expect it from you.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:11 AM
Off Topic -
Big Ten Network has been doing a special of the 50 greatest icons in Big 10 history. It has been a relatively cool thing, but some of the rankings makes one scratch his head.
The latest, Jesse Owens was ranked 3rd. I guess winning 4 gold medals against Hitler in his backyard doesn’t impress some folks.
The final 2 are Archie and Red Grange, in the order. Both very deserving of accolades, but neither can hold a candle to Owens and his Olympic feats. No one can. It is absurd. Archie, himself, admitted that his 2 Heismans don’t come close to the things that Owens accompished at OSU and in the Olympics.
/smh

I hope you’re receiving, not giving.
Jelly or syrup?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
but you’re a buckeye hater anyways, so i’ve come to expect it from you.
this is true. but i do respect how long osu has been competitive.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
Wally…is Jesse Owens synonymous with the Big 10 though? First thing anybody thinks of for Archie or Red Grange is Ohio State and Illinois. When I think of Jesse Owens, I think of USA.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
It is ridiculous. One is arguably the most well known athlete on the planet and his decision was newsworthy for many reasons. This is some ass clown who may never play a down of division I football.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
Ron Dayne not being #1 was a crime against mankind
February 14th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
On what? Him getting into school? Not really, because I don’t particularly give a shit, but it seems from all accounts that he shouldn’t. If he does, hats off to Spurrier.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
You’re right, the coverage of both items has been exactly the same. And it’s a crime.
/did everyone take retard pills this morning?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
No, I took mine last night in the form of multiple car bombs.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
On a Sunday evening. Nice.

Wally’s World:
You fell into a trap. Since you have been watching the Big Ten Icons series, you are aware the producers took great pains to emphasize that only what an athlete did in college was factored in to the rankings.
That’s why, for example Otto Graham was ranked so low.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
The wife and I did our Vday celebration last night. And our tradition includes car bombs.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
that’s good enough for me. i’ll throw on “in memory of elizabeth reed” in celebration.
February 14th, 2011 at 12:06 PM
In a 45 minute span in 1935 at University of Michigan, Jesse Owens broke 3 World Records and tied a 4th. Pretty sure that’s bangin’ it out in college.
Oh, and I was wrong. Archie was 4th. Jesse Owens 3rd. The last 2 are Magic and Red Grange. Now, Magic won a national title in his 2 years at Michigan State. He and Larry changed the face of college basketball. But, it was 2 years and 1 title. Grange was spectacular, but was much less thought of in those days as Owens was.
