Norm MacDonald Has a New Sports Show on Comedy Central
Norm MacDonald will return to television, with a sports show. Comedy Central has approved Sports Show With Norm MacDonald, which will get an eight-episode run beginning in April. Guessing it will be a Sports-themed Weekend Update. His ESPY’s monologue was one of the greatest eight-minute stretches in the history of live television. Can he recreate that magic?
It will be intriguing to see if that type of humor translates in the Internet/Blog era. The talking points are already shocking and crude. How do you take Brett Favre texting pictures of his erect penis and make it more perverse and unsettling?
I’m hoping Norm does succeed. The sports world could use some targeted irreverence on television. If ‘The Decision” has taught us anything, it’s that we still treat athletes with far too much deference.

Also, apparently everyone thought Mubarak would resign today, but instead he transferred some powers to the VP, but ended his speech without resigning.

They were having meetings to decide what exactly to do. Whose side to take. If they were going to in fact, stage a coup.

How uncomfortable did Griffey look right at the end of that? Awesome.

How uncomfortable did Griffey look right at the end of that? Awesome.
In retrospect, a room full of dumb jocks is probably not Norm’s target audience. So that he was invited to do the Espy’s and that he agreed are both pretty surprising.

Spence, the earlier news apparently stems from US Intelligence having bad info on Mubarak stepping down.
February 10th, 2011 at 4:32 PM
Fareed Zakaria is saying the Generals are siding with Mubarak. This could get ugly.
