Aaron Rodgers is Thrilled Colin Cowherd Has Finally Let Him Into the Imaginary “VIP” QB Club
Throughout the NFL season, ESPN radio’s Colin Cowherd has seemed annoyed that Aaron Rodgers was considered an elite quarterback. Cowherd repeatedly bemoaned the fact that Rodgers had never won a playoff game. And that the Packers had a weak record (at one point, 1-11) in close games with Rodgers at QB.
Then Rodgers won three road playoff games in a row and went to the Super Bowl, where he shredded the best defense in the league – 24-of-39, 304 yards, and three TDs; stats that would have been better if not for a few drops by his receivers – en route to the MVP award. Rodgers got in a few jabs of this own this morning during an interview with Cowherd.
Rodgers’ first good line comes early:
“Maybe even people like yourself can be fans of me now.”
And then, after Cowherd stammers for 35 seconds about some imaginary “VIP” QB club, Rodgers asks, “have you mentioned it yet? … Good. I really wanted to hear that from you … now I hope I can live up to your standards of being an elite quarterback.”
Extremely well played, Mr. Rodgers.

Nice. Reminds me of Tiki having to interview Eli after the 2008 Super Bowl.

I forgot to add:
“Come get a taste!”
February 7th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
cowherd is much less well spoken when he’s got a foot in his mouth.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
That was painful to listen to. Cowherd’s laugh was one of those uncomfortable laughs where the person doing so is trying to break the tension, but it only gets worse.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
cowherd is much less well spoken when he’s got a foot in his mouth.
He should ask Rex Ryan for some pointers.

Shouldn’t have given that troll the time but some good work none the less…winning that game didn’t make him a better quarterback, that VIP club is retarded
February 7th, 2011 at 12:12 PM
Awesome.
TBL, that interview was fucking hilarious. Just great.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:12 PM
i can’t see/hear the interview thanks to websense. however, i really hope rodgers was wearing his SB champ merch, holding the lombardi trophy and sitting in his MVP camaro trophy, with the championship belt over his shoulder while talking to cowherd.

Hall of Fame fake laugh from Cowherd at the beginning there. Beaten at his own game.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
He doesn’t realize how stupid he is. No one gives a shit about your club. No one gives a flying fuck about it. The problem was that you used retarded reasons to justify calling him overrated.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
@Jersey, my love for all things “Anchorman” is unmatched.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Rodgers needs to either be wearing the belt or have it over his shoulder at all times for a good month
February 7th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
+1

If he whipped Cowherd in the face with it a couple of times too that would be nice.
I’m really bummed that Sanders got injured for the Steelers. I was hoping that an SMU alum would have a relatively significant part of the Super Bowl two years in a row. I guess Ted Thompson counts for this year.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:19 PM
At least Cowherd found a way to shit on Eli Manning in the process of defending his previous position.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
That belt thing is cool as hell. Kudos to UFC for hooking him up. I’m happy for the packers and their fans. When I went to watch packers-falcons in the playoff, sat with a bunch of packers fan and they all were great people. Really nice. Something tells me it would have been a different story if it was philly fans. Ofcourse butters and his constant cheap shots against Matt Ryan gets a little old. But one asshole packers fan isn’t going to ruin my impression of their fanbase.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
i love how cowherd said rodgers cant be elite until he wins a ring, then says lebitch is elite. it will take cowherd years to get lebrons weener taste out of his mouth.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
What was that commercial where that guy said he felt like a kid in a candy store then they showed a kid in the candy store and he mentioned something else (like a hippie in a drum circle)? Was it carfax?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
Is he going to Letterman? Isn’t that a tradition by now?

Carmax, I think.

Looking forward to a let down season next year from #12.

20/22 starters yesterday were either draft picks or rookie free agent signings…this amazed me, great job by Ted
I only make fun of him knowing that if I’m 10 yards away he can’t throw anything at me

Looking forward to a let down season next year from #12
I forgot to ask, how does it feel to be NFC North Champions?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:27 PM
For someone who’s team just won the superbowl, you are one bitter man. Packers kicked the falcons ass. They are the world champion. Let it go dude.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:27 PM
This will happen if I pick him in fantasy.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:27 PM
I think I saw another team that recently won their sport’s championship use a belt…
Hmmmmmmmmm…
/gave them props in the earlier thread, for this I can rip on them
February 7th, 2011 at 12:27 PM
The more he plays the more he learns and the more powerful he becomes…he’s like Skynet only he’d be able to kill John Conner
February 7th, 2011 at 12:29 PM
Rodgers almost didn’t get into the VIP club if they had lost because he kept dropping his own passes.

February 7th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
It takes a special type of douche to create his own “VIP” label.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
Only the most awesome of the awesome can walk around with a championship belt.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
You brought him up lawya…I think he’s a good quarterback, just having fun
February 7th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Good job Pack… when Bush started giving Hines Ward open routes to the end zone, I didn’t think it would happen.
/Congrats to the Pack
//Doesn’t bother to trash the Steelers
February 7th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
Props to Rodgers for this one, Cowherd is such a tool
February 7th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
All QBs negotiating FA contracts should negotiate a Cowherd VIP clause that nets them a $1MM bonus if they enter the club by the end of the contract.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:33 PM
hey jersey, Mourinho said he wants to coach in the MLS in 15 years. That should be interesting.

so did anyone have 31-25 as the final score in Lisk’s prediction thread?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Did anyone see the shot FOX put up where the camera was up in the top deck? How much did those seats cost and why the hell would you pay for that? You couldn’t see squat! No value there whatsoever, imo.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
i wonder what it’s like to root for a champion…
February 7th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
Congrats, Butters and any other Packers fans on TBL. Over the course of this season, with the 70s cowboy pornstache, the title belt gesture, and this takedown of Cowherd, Rodgers has become my second favorite QB in the league, only behind #9. Here’s to an NFC Championship Game between the Pack and Saints next year. And there WILL be a next year. It may just be you and me playing in it, though…
/Congrats again
February 7th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
Did anyone see that PK has Drew Bledsoe as a ‘leading’ HOF candidate next year? Even as a Pats fan, I’m giving that a giant “really???”
February 7th, 2011 at 12:41 PM
i wonder what it’s like to root for a champion…
You’ll get there, spencer. Like I said last year at this time, if the Saints can do it, the Browns and Lions can sure as shit do it.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
I wouldn’t know. Only team that gets close up here flames out in the first round, every year.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:42 PM
Rodgers is Right Above It.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Ha. If he’s alive in 15 years. Someone has to be close to finally getting a hit squad to take care of him.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
yeah, he’s no HOF’er. not even borderline. but there are a good 3-4 HOF candidates coming up every year for the next few years that will make it very hard for those struggling to get in now.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:44 PM
When did you stop rooting for OSU?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:44 PM
Right on. Not to mention the Seahags, Cardinals and Bucs have all made the Super Bowl. Sooner or later the Lions will get there, hopefully in my lifetime.
/Texans will be the only franchise to never get to a super bowl
February 7th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
i wonder what it’s like to root for a champion…
i probably will never know.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
I’d even take a Timberwolves run at this point, as unlikely as that is.

February 7th, 2011 at 12:46 PM
I still can’t get my gf to apologize for all the bad stuff she said about Ted Thompson.
How do you feel Butters? As an outsider, I loved ditching Brett before he could hold the team hostage yet another year, and giving the shot to Aaron. She hated the handling of it, and even rooted for Favre in NY (until he went to MN then she cursed everything about him).
February 7th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
I wouldn’t know. Only team that gets close up here flames out in the first round, every year.
Some nights I dream of first round exits.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
HArbaugh, I must have said this during the season, but I’ll tell you again: the Lions are going to be a wildcard team next year. The Bears are going to regress, the Vikings will be in a freefall and the Packers may stumble just a touch. They’ll still win the division, but the Lions will get a winning record.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
I really want to talk more about kick to the face today. I mean… c’mon people… KICK TO THE FACE!!!
February 7th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
She hated the handling of it, and even rooted for Favre in NY
Ugh… the worst kind of Packer fan. She better be good in bed. I know a bunch of people that bashed Thompson up until this year. I wish they were all in the room with me when Rodgers hoisted that trophy. Would have loved to tell them “I told you so” to their face.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Held – I’m with you on that. The Vikings should be terrible and I can’t see the Bears having back to back solid seasons under with the Cutler/Lovie combo. If the Lions can keep Stafford healthy (tall order for sure) and get a couple of rookies who can contribute, they should be looking at 9-7 and competing for a wild card birth.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Whoa, whoa, whoa… unless by regress you mean have a tougher schedule, I’m going to have to disagree. The only guy they need to re-sign is Forte and they actually have draft picks this year. The OL can finally get an upgrade along with the defensive secondary.
/please don’t franchise Mankins, Pats
//please move Peanut to safety, Lovie
February 7th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
She didn’t lessen her allegience to the Packers… just rooted for her childhood hero (for lack of a better word) to keep doing well. I don’t think she hated the move, just the handling of it, so I’m asking what that handling was…
February 7th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
But seriously, I don’t want to hear anymore shit from Packers fans again about doing anything before you win. That is all.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:52 PM
How is one “framed” into being anti-Rodgers?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:53 PM

February 7th, 2011 at 12:53 PM
how else could they have handled it. Let Favre and his selfish ass just keep them in suspense year after after if he will grace them with his presence? There’s just no winning with some people. If I was Ted Thompson, I would’ve done the same. Hell, I would’ve done it sooner.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:54 PM
She didn’t lessen her allegience to the Packers… just rooted for her childhood hero (for lack of a better word) to keep doing well. I don’t think she hated the move, just the handling of it, so I’m asking what that handling was…
Ah, just giving you a hard time man, it’s all good. I don’t think Ted could have handled it any better/differently. Favre was holding the team hostage. Had to move on without that douche.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:54 PM
But seriously, I don’t want to hear anymore shit from Packers fans again about doing anything before you win. That is all.
The difference is, had they thought of it, the Jets would have done it after week 15.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:55 PM
Well, they might. But we don’t have Marvin Lewis and 2 malcontents past their prime playing the roles of diva WRs with their own TV show. We do have the whole Cutler thing, but I’m still optimistic on his future. No matter how diabetic and sad-faced he is.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:55 PM
Did anyone pick the exact score for the Lisk article?
February 7th, 2011 at 12:56 PM
No. I was close. Had 34-28. Off by a field goal each way. I still want him to write a Rooney Rule piece regardless.
February 7th, 2011 at 12:58 PM
Yeah.. I didn’t think Thompson did anything so bad, but for Favre fans, had to be tough to take.
/6 picks in top 90 next year… lets see if Belichick can get an edge rusher!
February 7th, 2011 at 12:59 PM
you’re right…you have lovie smith, who’s the exact same thing, and NO WR’s.
February 7th, 2011 at 1:00 PM
But how do they compensate for being so flukey?
February 7th, 2011 at 1:02 PM
how did people find places to live (rent) before craigslist?
February 7th, 2011 at 1:04 PM
divining rod
February 7th, 2011 at 1:06 PM
Marvin Lewis is one of the few guys I’m taking Lovie over. No WRs > TO & 85 too. The Bears have also heard of defense, too.
I know, I know. It’s a flip-flop but I’m warming up to Lovie. He’s still got some flaws in challenges and time management but the staff as a whole is pretty good. Yes, I’m aware our defensive coordinator went 0-16 as a HC. That’s why he’s a DC now.

February 7th, 2011 at 1:11 PM
No. I was close. Had 34-28. Off by a field goal each way. I still want him to write a Rooney Rule piece regardless.
I’ll have to dig through and see who was the closest in margin and total points.
February 7th, 2011 at 1:15 PM

so did you, TBL
/clutch’d
I thought it was a great interview (again, only one on here probably). There WAS some truth to Cowherd’s take on Rodgers in the beginning. He lost credibility when, as he started the run in the playoffs, give him more credit instead of manufacturing other reasons why he was right in the first place.
not everyone can be as buffoonish yet think they are cool as DiPshit yammering at Turtle, Brooklyn Decker & Sandler last week…painful

im not sure if “truth” is the word to use here considering there isn’t any truth to something that’s not complete (i.e. rodgers’ postseason resume prior to this year…rodgers wasn’t the one giving up 50+ to the cardinals).
February 7th, 2011 at 2:42 PM
Who the hell listens to this man on the radio? Stop listening and he will disappear.
