The Dan Patrick Show Has Good Taste in Blogs
All, Blogging, Goooooood Morning Sports Hernia, Media Gossip/Musings January 28th. 2011, 7:40am
A reader sent in this screengrab showing one of the producers for Dan Patrick’s radio show making a pitstop here at The Big Lead. It’s difficult to make out exactly which post he’s reading even on the zoomed-in version — gotta be Weekly Top Five — but it’s clear he’s in the meaty portion of the post and, like everyone else, not bothering with the tomfoolery in the comments. not bothering with the tomfoolery in the comments.
That’s cause he doesn’t know the Ctrl+F5 trick yet

Oooh. It looks fancy in here. I kinda like it.

Kinda miss the recent posts and comments section.
Yes, didnt notice that at first! Boooooo!
January 28th, 2011 at 7:57 AM
As you can see … yes, it does look kind of new-ish here.
Looking for any and all feedback. Please, speak your mind.

The lack of capitalization on the right rail bothers me, TBL.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:01 AM
I’m just kidding. I’m impressed with the layout. I had been wondering if you guys at the BLS network were going to stick with just the 4 posts a day on the right rail from other blogs or if you would expand that. I like what you did. The branding in using “lead” in everything is pretty creative and effective, IMO.

Change looks good. Much better than Illinois looked last night.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:04 AM
I’ll agree with pki and CJ though. the recent posts and recent comments boxes probably should come back. I don’t know about anybody else, but I have problems with refreshing the frontpage sometimes (even a ctrl+f5 doesn’t always work) and the only way to see a new post is to go into an existing post and click on the new one from the recent posts box.

I bet he’s in moderation.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:08 AM
he’s looking for the “Switch to our mobile site” button.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:10 AM
still has that new blog smell.

In funny lawsuit news
“Radar Online reports that rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was sued for $1 trillion by a woman named Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks, who alleges that he date raped her 24 years ago… and then conspired with Rodney King to bring down the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001″

So is the roundup out yet? I don’t feel like hitting the back button.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:22 AM
I am all flustered here. I keep jumping to the main page and hitting refersh then jumping back here and hitting refresh. This is not gonna be fun.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
All the red us confusing. On a Mac red is the color used for a link that has been clicked on previously, so it looks like everything has been clicked on already when I view the site.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
I agree with everything miz said.

January 28th, 2011 at 8:31 AM
Site seems to be loading faster on my phone today…also, like the changes too
January 28th, 2011 at 8:31 AM
Yeah Im afraid the Roundup will be up for an hour before I am able to see it.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:33 AM
I think it might be the Kemba, Jimmer, Sullinger post; it looks like one with three photos.
I quickly deduced that it was not one of mine because their upright posture and rigid neck musculature demonstrate they are not asleep.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:34 AM
what she said.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:35 AM
Annoying autoplay ads, overload/uber-synergy with WAY too many links to the family of bigleadsports sites, inconsistent banner/sidebar, no recent posts/comments…
…other than that, love it.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
8:36am and still no Roundup.
/PSA for everyone on their phones
January 28th, 2011 at 8:39 AM
i like the new look!
January 28th, 2011 at 8:39 AM
TBL, will the topic groups on the sidebar change based on season?
How much did it break your heart to lose the battle to put the NBA above baseball? (and in the middle of winter, for shame)
January 28th, 2011 at 8:40 AM
I also like the new look. Simplicity is good. And my focus is still on the latest post as soon as I get to the page.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
i miss the recent comments bar…
January 28th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
Looks good TBL. A Recent Comments box would be useful though.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
I’m overwhelmed by the amount of “leads” on the side bar
January 28th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
FUCKING PREACH IT, DAVID FLEMING.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:45 AM
I like the new lamp, especially the stand up one in the rec room. However, I think you need to put the couch on the other side of the room. I’ll be able to see the TV better. Right now, those stadium seats are in my way. Where’s the Hors d’œuvre guy?
/what Miz and everyone else said about recent posts and comments
//branding looks good
January 28th, 2011 at 8:46 AM
NEW POST!!
January 28th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Blake: These are the new leads. These are the Glengarry leads. And to you they’re gold, and you don’t get them. Why? Because to give them to you would be throwing them away. They’re for closers.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:50 AM
Wow, nice. That is um, going to ruffle some feathers.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:53 AM
TBL:
1. Definitely do not like the maroon font color change. It’s too similar to black. Go back to the blue.
2. The features I used the most were the recent comments section and the list of current posts on the right. Those are MUST haves.
I really like the new headers.
January 28th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
I come to this site FOR this site. I’d rather see a tab at the top that says “Other Sites” where you can move all the “leads” on the sidebar and give them a full page. People could click on it if they wanted to see what else was happening. Recent Posts, Comments and an Archive would be better suited on the right side. Obviously, I’m guessing you have something in your agreement that stipulates linking all of that stuff, but I’d want my readers looking around at stuff directly related to the content that I put out.
new layout looks great otherwise.
January 28th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
Have never used the most recent posts section.
January 28th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
Sitemeter statistics say that only heauxmeauxs don’t use the most recent posts section. stats don’t lie.
January 28th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
Please please please bring back the full RSS feed. I know sites think they’re “giving up all their content for nothing” when they do so, but what actually happens when you do the abbreviated feed is that it gets so annoying to click on every story and read through that you click on less and less until you drop the feed all together. Please don’t make me read Deadspin instead, there’s only so many poop stories a man can take.
