Ballin’: The Cleveland Cavs Will Never Win Again
Dallas 112, LA Clippers 105: Well, that’s one way to stop Blake Griffin (1:35 mark). Brenda Haywood, who gets paid $6.9 mil this year to sit on the bench and watch Tyson Chandler show him how its done (21 points, 11-11 FTs) plays just 18 minutes a night. Late in the third quarter Haywood hooked Griffin hard, the rookie landed on his elbow, and Haywood got a Flagrant 1. (For whatever reason, he acted surprised afterward.) Griffin had 22-11, but they’re not winning many games without Eric Gordon.
Denver 120, Washington 109: Both teams shot 50% from the field, hit about the same number of free throws, collected roughly the same number of rebounds, and were nearly equal in assists and turnovers. The difference? The Wiz were 2-of-13 from deep; the Nuggets 12-of-23. Is it insane to think that if Melo plays out the rest of the season, Nene keeps’ beatin’, they keep JR Smith, and Al Harrington plays like he did Tuesday(6-of-8 from three, 21 points), Denver could get a Top 4 seed in the West? Nah, Anthony’s probably getting traded.
Boston 112, Cleveland 95: Eighteen losses in a row (and 22 straight on the road). So, does the worst team in the league draft Duke’s Kyrie Irving No. 1 in June? There’s no Durant, Blake Griffin, or John Wall in this draft. Do you take Ohio State monster Jared Sullinger?
LA Lakers 120, Utah 91: That Jazz post yesterday was quite prescient, huh? Utah trailed by 28 at halftime and wound up losing for the 17th straight time at Staples. That’s five losses in a row. LA shot a blistering 62 percent and assisted on 34 of 44 baskets. If Jerry Sloan needs to ignite his team, he could always tell Deron Williams what Charles Barkley said …
Charlotte 94, Sacramento 89: Kwame Brown scored 13 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. Yes, that Kwame Brown. He’s got some time to put up some numbers with Ty Thomas gone … and maybe parlay that into a decent little contract after this year. Can you believe he’s only 28?

Everyone needs to watch this music video. The 80′s must have been a fun time. The lead singer has one of the best mullets I’ve ever seen.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
I haven’t seen the Price is Right in about 8 years, but thanks to the flu I’m watching today. It’s pure chaos, there are 4 guys in the front row molesting every female contestant that gets called up on stage, so good.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
Sullinger is on the record saying he wants to come back for his sophomore year. Yeah, I don’t believe him either.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Is he going pro? Isn’t this the kid that is out for the season? I would think he’s obligated to come back to Duke.
Tyrus Thomas reference!

Case of Icehouse > Ice House – Electric Blue
January 26th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
If the alternative is going to the Cavs, it might not be a bad decision.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
husker i’ll take yer word for it and not click. power ballads make my ass tweetch

January 26th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
That Clippers to the playoffs is looking really good TBL.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
cavs are fucked.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Byron Scott moust have REALLY wanted to get back into coaching. The Cavs are pretty terrible right now.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
The outfits and the conceptual aspects of the video are fucking hilarious.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Understatement
January 26th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
I don’t think you can play Sullinger and Hickson together, although that would not necessarily prevent me from taking Sullinger if he was the best player available.
They REALLY need a PG, but if you a young PF emerges as the next Tyrus Thomas, then they would obviously have to take a look at him.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Agreed. Free Varejao. Hair for Hair.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
Cavs fans really need to give up on Hickson already. His presence should not discourage you from drafting another PF.
The guy that’s moving up quickly on everyone’s draft board is Arizona’s Derrick Williams. Prototypical NBA small forward.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:45 AM
It’s not as if ol’ Byron is coaching the shit out of them right now. Gilbert will spend for free agents (will probably have to overpay). They also have a $15 million trade exception, although I can’t figure out how they could possibly utilize it.
That being said, the Cleveland Cavaliers are fucked.
/Columbus Cavs anyone?
January 26th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
I want at least 25 straight losses. Here’s what they have coming up:
Nuggets
Magic
Heat
Pacers
Grizzlies
Blazers
Mavs
Come on Cavs, you can lose it!
January 26th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Just read the letter the UConn donor sent to the AD. Quite interesting. I’m not all against the guy now, but I think asking for his $ back is stupid.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:47 AM
Hey, what happened to RS27? I know Cuse lost by 20+ to Seton Hall, but that’s no reason to go into the witness relocation program (and that would involve traveling out of state, something no Boeheim fan would do).
January 26th, 2011 at 11:48 AM
i hope you go bald.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:48 AM
Hunger strike… or something like that.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
he flipped out on TBL last week and i haven’t seen him around since.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
How about the Akron Cavs? They could get Bron Bron back.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
What did he flip out about? I know he’s never really liked the site or the editorial nature of it, but he was definitely a good contributor. I just figured he was just a fan of the commenters anyway.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
They won’t be really fucked until they wind up with only the fourth pick in the lottery.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
you can all go fuck yourselves.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
He don’t mind stealin’ bread from the mouth of decadence…
January 26th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
rs27 hates that we didn’t cover college hoops during the NFL playoffs. i told him i am all about college hoops … but my jets in the playoffs takes priority.
and he’s bent the RSS feed is no longer full (it’s partial, apparently).
January 26th, 2011 at 11:53 AM
you can all go fuck yourselves.
Move the Thrashers to Cleveland.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:55 AM
If the Cavs are going to be this bad then I think this player deserves to be on that team.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:56 AM
robert sarver and vince deserve each other for their commitment to fully not giving a shit about basketball.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
Not sure Wall is on the same level as the other two. I like him but he has quite a bit of work to do to become an efficient scorer and the turnovers need to come way down. I pin some of his struggles on the shitty team he plays for but he’s more of a project than Durant or Griffin.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
I’ve never understood the value of an RSS feed. What’s the point?
January 26th, 2011 at 11:58 AM
It would be pretty funny if the Cavs got the #4 pick after the lottery.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:58 AM
Well shit I can’t argue with that.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
And change their name to the Barons.
January 26th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
For real? You watched him play ONE good game before his toe decided to take the rest of the season off and all of a sudden, he’s the number one pick?
I just don’t get your logic sometimes…
January 26th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Perry Jones!
January 26th, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Unfortunately, there is no one pplayer in this year’s draft that will make the Cavs even good for next year…Just trade the valuable shit you have and build for 2-3 years when you can pick up a decent FA or two to go with a young nucleus.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:01 PM
I wisw the Pistons would do this.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:03 PM
you know how i know you have no idea what you’re talking about? you said that the cavs have valuable shit. they don’t.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:04 PM
So you can have all the posts from your favorite sites in one place instead of having to surf all over the place. If Reeder didn’t have a readability option, I’d probably have to drop TBL from my feeds. (no offense)
January 26th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
If the Cavs are going to be this bad then I think this player deserves to be on that team.
Wow they got worse with Vince.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
That’s the truth.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
They have PF’s. My team has wings. Lets discuss.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
You saying some fucktard wouldn’t trade for Antawn Jamison so they can get all giddy on the internets like you did last year? I agree the guy sucks, but a team like LA or NY could use him in a limited role.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:06 PM
He’s top 3 if he decides to come out. And thats without even going to camps and the combine. It’s not crazy.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
no because he has two years left on his deal at $13 mil. what team’s desperate like the cavs to take on that much money for such a shit player?
and NY and LA don’t need a marginal backup PF at that price.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
So the Cavs lose Lebron and they go from having the best Record in the Eastern Conference to 18 losses in a row. I cannot imagine why Lebron wanted out of Cleveland.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
Ochocinco back to Chad Johnson. Guess his gold-digger trophy girlfriend didn’t want “Ochocinco” as a last name.
/whipped
January 26th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
/raises hand
granted I was offering up Vinsanity.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
Yep. He did enough to prove that he’s the best PG in the country and most of the teams at the top of the lottery will be in need of just that.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:10 PM
Vinsanity has a buyout Spencer!
January 26th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
Isn’t Twitter a more advanced RSS feed Clown?
January 26th, 2011 at 12:11 PM
we all know WHY he wanted out of cleveland, it’s HOW he did it that’s the issue.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:12 PM
make the trade happen NOW.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:12 PM
I guess, but I haven’t seen anything out of him that Brandon Knight or Hansbrough’s brother hasn’t done… And yes, I did watch his 31-point game.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
it’s like ballin’ is back! people hate each other! they’re mad at more than the writers!
January 26th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
Thanks Wilbon.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:13 PM
If the Suns are going to hold on to Steve Nash through his last 2 years they might as well.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Let’s also not forget about the players who would have come to Cleveland (Ariza, Stoudemire, etc)if LeBron would have said two simple words: “I’m staying”.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:14 PM
Hard to see a team willing to take on Jamison–especially a contender. Maybe Atlanta for Crawford’s expiring deal? I don’t know.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
you know how i know you have no idea what you’re talking about? you said that the cavs have valuable shit. they don’t.
This is funny considering the last 2 seasons every Cleveland fan on this site talked up the Cavs supporting cast like they were the 86 Celtics.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Vinsanity
how’s he doing in his new temporary home?
January 26th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
Please, like Lebron owes Cleveland or its fans anything. The way he left raised a ton of cash for charity. If he would have taken the Cavs owner out to dinner and said “hey its me, not you” in a “classy” way more be-fitting of what the great and long suffering fans of all cleveland team sports deserved, the dirtball fans in Cleveland would still have crucified him for leaving.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
OH IM SO FUCKING SORRY THAT WE HAD PASSION FOR OUR FUCKING TEAM AFTER SIX FUCKING DECADES OF GETTING SHAT ON BY THE SPORTS GODS.
go fuck yourself dude.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
Hansborough’s brother won’t see the first round and Knight isn’t a true PG. I wonder how he’ll do in the league, actually.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
The only way A’mare would have came there is through that trade. He probably would have stayed if the Cavs maxed him out at that point but no way he would have come there as a free agent.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
Naw, not at all. No ONE is taking Jamison’s contract off of Cleveland. MAYBE Orlando.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
That’s what I was referring too.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
no shit we would’ve been pissed, but please explain to me how cavs fans deserved what we got?
jesus fucking christ.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
All this. The only other pg that will get lottery love is Walker.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
He is a black hole. no basketball escapes his grasp unless it is being chucked at iron.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:19 PM
Which would have been fine as they wouldn’t have been on the hook for his monster salary for the next two years like Jamison now. He was a much better fit for that team in the first place. Never understood the Jamison move.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
*Cough*panic*cough*
January 26th, 2011 at 12:21 PM
true.
go fuck yourself anyways.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
I’m not sure I see him starting in the league either, though I guess not too many lottery picks end up starting anymore.
I do wonder if Jimmer will be looked at like Steph Curry a few years back. He’ll help himself with a huge game tonight and going deep in the tourney.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:22 PM
I really wanted to see him and LBJ run the pick n roll. Thankfully the Suns kept him and they made a nice little run.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
Needs more “fagic”
January 26th, 2011 at 12:23 PM
They got him for NOTHING, he was averaging 20 ppg at the time, and the Cavs genuinely though LeBron was staying. It looked like a no brainer, at the time.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:25 PM
I hate saying this, but he’s too short for his skill set to apply to the league.
/will watch as he dominates for a decade
January 26th, 2011 at 12:26 PM
The only reason fans of any Cleveland sports franchise deserve the pain and misery they have is because they choose to support the Indians, Cavs, and Browns. When was the last time a big time, big name free agent in either baseball, basketball, or football actually chose to sign a contract with any of those teams?
The Cavs had Lebron and the best cast they could surround him with was Mo Williams, Pavlovic, Daniel Gibson, Varejo, Delonte West, and a declining Antawn Jamison. If the fans should be mad at anyone it should be at the owner of the cavs for assembling such a crap-tastic supporting cast for all those years.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
I’m not sure $28MM for the next two years is nothing.
But, hey, you got to hold on to your beloved 43% shooting undersized PF!
January 26th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Dan Gilbert is a billionaire. Aint my money.
They would have traded Hickson for Stoudemire, but LeBron would not commit to Cleveland, so Stoudemire balked. They really didn’t have any other options.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:34 PM
I just don’t understand why the NBA kept the Cavs after LeBron left.
They don’t serve much of a purpose and most of their fans are fatties.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:35 PM
Their purpose is to serve as fodder for your comedic gems.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:36 PM
Yea, they were so shitty that they won the most games in the NBA the past two seasons.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:36 PM
Tagooch is a Cavs fan?
January 26th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
LeCharles Bentley was a big signing, but that didn’t work out.
/Staph joke goes here
January 26th, 2011 at 12:39 PM
Alright LeBron fan boy, I bet you also thought free agents would be lining up to play with an egomaniac who wouldn’t commit to the organization. At every step, he made sure not to keep people guessing about whether he would re-sign. A terrible way to go about helping lure free agents and establishing a nucleus. All things considered and despite LeBron’s wavering, they built a pretty solid team.
January 26th, 2011 at 12:56 PM
coach k…not only are you an idiot, but you’re an asshole too.
go fuck yourself.
