Here’s Rashard Mendenhall Humping Ben Roethlisberger En Route to the Super Bowl
Rashard Mendenhall destroyed the Jets in the first half, then humped Ben Roethlisberger in the second half to seal the victory and a trip to the Super Bowl. Good morning. If only that were true. [Vid via Bubba]

Should’ve ridden SG near the goalline. LT shrinks away when it matters most. Already looking forward to sulking.

I thought I had imagined this..
January 24th, 2011 at 8:02 AM
sifted through 20 stories so far this morning in 4 different papers. can’t find the answer to that question anywhere.
play-calling in the red zone has been an issue all year.
text from a friend: “24-0 final would have felt better than being this close.”
January 24th, 2011 at 8:05 AM
Anyone have a gif of Rex throwing his headset down? Watching that gif over and over would certainly get me through to next season.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:18 AM
Too early in the morning. When I saw SG I thought “I don’t think SportsGal coulda gotten across the goal line either.”
January 24th, 2011 at 8:19 AM
TBL – What were your thoughts on the refs? I grew up in Western PA, but am not a die hard Stiller fan. However, Jets friend has been whining like a bitch since last night…”gift-wrapped” was a phrase used at least once.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:19 AM
Mendenhall DTF.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:21 AM
What are you talking about, its a glorious morning.
Super Bowl. Suuuuper Bowl. Super Booowl. Super Bowl.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:23 AM
eh, would rather not go down that road. let me guess, the Sanchez fumble and running into the punter?
Jets screwed up the 1st half and at the goalline and still were a stop away from making it real interesting. Roethlisberger made 2 clutch passes on the final drive. killer.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:24 AM
I think Cutler’s main problem from here on out is that everybody remembers Jay’s arch enemey in doucheness, peg legged Phil Rivers playing a great game against the Pats. Even if he is hurt, he loses in comparison.
Well this and he throws at least two fastballs right into the breadbasket of oppossing linebackers each game.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:25 AM
Is there really a question that both of these werent called correctly? Hate the rule if you must, but you arent allowed to plow into the kicker if you dont touch the ball.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:26 AM
I didn’t think the refs were remotely an issue either way. The fumble was a fumble – the hand was empty coming forward. As for the roughing the punter, what did they want? The ball wasn’t touched, he made contact with the foot on the follow through.
Even if it wasn’t roughing the “running into” still would have been a 1st. Still that point is further moot because the Steelers ended up punting again on that drive.

Far and away my favorite moment from yesterday.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:34 AM
The joke in PGH this morning is that Mendenhall should have flagged for roughing the passer
January 24th, 2011 at 8:35 AM
sanchez fumble DEFINITELY left room open for it to be questioned.
i thought he whiffed on the kick but plenty of folks on twitter (non jets fans) were saying it should have been reviewed.
to be clear, though … i’m not saying the refs were a factor. at all. i can see why others would mention them, though.

Roeth – Curious as to your thoughts on Sanchez. i imagine you saw all 3 of his postseason games this year.
let ‘er rip
January 24th, 2011 at 8:38 AM
Quite hungover today. Plus, in addition to being drunk, I went to be at 4:45, got up at 8:45. For my own health, it’s a good thing I only have to do this one more time (the Super Bowl) because watching the NFL while in Europe takes its toll.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:39 AM
Yes!
January 24th, 2011 at 8:40 AM
I guess surprised would be my initial thought. He was better than I ever expected him to be. I always thought he’d never be more than a ‘game manager’, but I think that’s an unfair tag.
Going into next year, Rex/Schotty need to open up the playbook a little to take advantage of him, Tone, Edwards and Keller, and put the onus on Greene at tailback. LDT needs a reduced role (3rd down back?).
January 24th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
jets coulda used kris jenkins yesterday.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
isn’t braylon gone next year?
January 24th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
Haha. I was in Italy in 2001 when the Pats made their run. I think the experience took a year off my life.
Totally worth it.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:47 AM
FWIW, Sanchez had the best statistical day of all the QBs yesterday.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:49 AM

Humble Brag
January 24th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
braylon is a FA. so is Jenkins. i’ll have something on that later.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
Is there a GIF of Rex slamming his headset yet?
January 24th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
Yep, there’s no stat for ‘near interception’ and ‘receiver bailing out your overthrow by making a great catch’

Flipped over to Mike and Mike during a Czabe commercial and heard the little one say Rapelesburger was fantastic last night. Other than 2 passes, that dude sucked.
/Really looking forward to 2 weeks of how he is a changed man.
//Fuck the Steelers.

January 24th, 2011 at 8:53 AM
I noticed the humping live and was thinking “WTF, did I just see that?”
January 24th, 2011 at 8:53 AM
When I studied abroad as an undergraduate, it was only in the Spring semester so I only had to deal with the playoffs. This time I’m here for a year (for my M.A.), starting this past August so I’ve been doing this every weekend for a few months now. Well, I haven’t usually drank on Sundays because of class the next day but given that it’s the playoffs, I’m going to bars for the atmosphere; thus, not only am I not sleeping, I’m also hungover.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
bitter about the pats house of cards falling down?
January 24th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Best quote of the morning from him was something along the lines of, “Ben isn’t the best QB in the game, but he’s the best football player playing the QB position in the NFL.”
January 24th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Thanks Miz. I am way too tired to go back and read the previous comments

i thought roethlisberger was pretty damn good last night. whenever the steelers needed anything, he got it. he played much better than his line would indicate.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
But yes, Hakeem, I’m not really complaining.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
is this where we’re talking about this? I was impressed with Sanchez. he took what they gave him in the 2nd half and really moved the ball. they played a really good 2nd half, but the Steelers played a great 1st half.
Difinitely a fumble, and, like roeth said, at least running into the kicker and thus a 1st down.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:57 AM
Other than 2 passes, that dude sucked
and like 3 HUGE running plays. he didn’t throw the ball great yesterday, but he played a good game.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
“Ben” did what he always does. Play inconsistently for most of the game, but pull a couple of plays out of your ass when it counts. Ride the defense and running game to victory.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
Maybe you are right Spence. Having Peyton for the past 12 years, us Colts fans are stuck looking at statistics.
Still hate the asshole. Hope I see Rodgers putting the belt on in 2 weeks.
January 24th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
I was going to say, at least you didn’t lose like the Vikings did last year.

I’m guessing you don’t watch a lot of Steeler games, but this is what I’d call the opposite of correct.

having peyton for 12 years must make you long for a QB that doesn’t go fetal whenever his LT gets beat.

Whatever you say.
