Cristiano Ronaldo’s No-Look, 1-Touch, Backheel Pass
The perfect through ball requires tremendous technique. Heighten the difficulty by doing it with a no-look backheel on the first touch. Cristiano Ronaldo’s skill can be flabbergasting. That’s why his ancillary petulance is tolerated. [Video via 101GreatGoals]

Not the first touch.
January 21st, 2011 at 12:53 PM
It could have at least led to a goal.

Very nice, but major let down for the winger who couldn’t corral it. Way to keep your head on a swivel.

That’s some serious skills right there.

Di Maria always does that. Kid can flat out score, but he tries to do too much too many times. Just control it with your first touch and hammer it home, come on!

his flashy style more often results in turnovers than spectacular plays like this one.
January 21st, 2011 at 1:04 PM
no it doesn’t. I used to do this all the time in highschool. you send it across the box like that hoping that your winger is going to be in the box too and where he’s supposed to be so he can make a play on it. the 4 guys crashing in on Ronaldo only left him with one lane to pass, and that was accomplished with the heel.

that’s like as good as Magic Johnson’s best career pass. too bad this kid didnt finish

Nasty.

pretty cool, but if that’s truly the best soccer has to offer, i guess i’m not missing a whole lot.

that’s like as good as Magic Johnson’s best career pass.
even cheddar bob thinks this is a dumb statement.

Clearly two touches, and in tons of space. Kinda mediocre by high level soccer standards.

this goal is more difficult than that pass. he drilled this ball on the downhill side of a bounce on one touch while on the move. way more difficult than trapping a ball and a heel pass across the box.

I don’t follow or acknowledge the “sport,” but I was unaware that Magic played soccer.

Ronaldo has got a pretty sick collection of goals. But that pass was pretty legit. I’m more impressed it wasn’t on first touch. He gathered the ball and still knew where his man was going to be on the backheel. And I fucking hate Ronaldo.

jersey – a backheel pass is nice, especially when it’s on target. a good highschooler can execute one though.
January 21st, 2011 at 1:34 PM
I agree with the lower-class guy. That pass was definitely better than the goal in this instance.

Link?

Dude puts it in the perfect place, through the rest of the defense for a relatively easy goal opportunity. I dunno. It looked pretty sweet to me. You don’t see one there that often.

jersey – I’m not saying the pass is ghey or Ohesian, I’m saying it’s ridiculous to attach the hyperbole to it that both duffy and TBL did.
January 21st, 2011 at 1:42 PM
LOL, nice linking. I agree with the comment about duffy and TBL, however, it was a perfectly weighted no-look backheel in the box to set up an easy scoring chance that Di Maria fucked up. And add that to the fact that this is happening on the highest level of the sport. I agree that a backheel pass isn’t superhuman, but in this case it was pretty damn cool.
January 21st, 2011 at 1:42 PM
Fair enough, guess we weren’t really arguing.
January 21st, 2011 at 1:47 PM
no doubt it was a perfect ball, but it didn’t require tremendous technique.
it’s definitely not this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA778YNWtrY&feature=related

Magic Johnson brings it up the floor, looks left, and WHOA, what a pass, no-look-behind-the-back-pass to A.C. Green who, oh no, he dropped it for a turnover. But what a pass! Let’s get this up on youtube right away.

Wow, he kicked a ball in a straight line backwards…that sounds so tough to do. Especially when there is only one defender about 10 feet away from the line. Try hitting a golf ball straight…that is tough.
January 21st, 2011 at 2:27 PM
I’ve hit a golf ball straight before.
