EA Removes Tiger Woods from Cover of Tiger Woods Video Game
Tiger Woods Video Game Distancing Itself From Tiger Woods: “Last year, Electronic Arts made the golfing great share the cover of his bestselling game with Northern Irish rookie Rory McIlroy for the first time ever. This year, following the controversy away from the green and lackluster play on it, Woods has been dropped from the cover of the March 29th release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Woods has been replaced with a shot of the iconic yellow flag at Augusta National Golf Club.” Being booted off the cover of your own video game in favor of a flag must be a bit humbling, but it would be far worse if he were being replaced by Dorf. If you suddenly have the thirst to play a golf video game, today is your lucky day. Try not to be intimidated by the complexity of the game. [Hollywood Reporter; photo via Getty]

Augusta wanting in on Tiger’s game a year after the meltdown speaks more to how much the people with the money still want to be tied to him than him getting bumped off the cover speaks to where he is right now, imho.

I don’t care who or what is on the cover, being able to play at digital Augusta is going to be awesome

And Tiger needs Augusta more than they need him – all the $$$ is going to their charity fund. Augusta also opened up their in-house photo archives. You can get some rare prints on museum quality photo paper at very good prices. They take a lot of pot shots but actually do some good work down there at the National.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Augusta demanded the cover as part of including the course in the game. And to paraphrase Eddie Murphy/Richard Pryor: Tiger, when people play your video game, do they have fun? And when people buy your video game, do you get paid? Tell Bil Cosby to have a Coke and a smile and to shut the fuck up.
