The Raiders have fired Tom Cable
He was punching above his weight.

Ashley Greene is dope
from the link…
FHM Spain put out their ‘Fantastic 5′ list and it included the likes of Ashley Greene, Katy Cocktease, Sofia Vergara, Irina Shayk, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Poor Katy Perry. That’s a Fantastic Four w/ a booby prize

Ashley Greene is banging a Jonas Brother. I want to slam my penis in my car door.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:46 AM
no blackouts this year, MJD. small steps.
hire me, Mr. Weaver. I’ll say this to you as my pitch: “Crossing the Chasm.” I will sell all your seats, brah.

I’ll never forgive Arkansas for blowing at that game.
They blewwwwwwwwwwww it.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Is this worse than Selena Gomez banging Bieber?
January 5th, 2011 at 8:54 AM
the Derek Rose SAT/ACT cheating that resulted in vacating the national championship runner-up season started because of an investigation into improper benefits for the WOMEN’S GOLF TEAM.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
cleet…id argue that OSU blew it more than arkansas.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
this conversation makes bsanders sadder than sportsgal when animal cruelty links are dropped in here.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
Wait, what? That picture up there is banging a Jonas? Weren’t those kids wearing those stupid bracelet things like last week?
January 5th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
That Randy Esdall link is from the CT Post not the Hartford Courant, and from those details he seems like a jerk. I guess what would you expect being from the Tom Coughlin coaching tree.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:00 AM
Light years worse.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
Is this worse than Selena Gomez banging Bieber?
Yes. Selena Gomez still looks like she should be in high school. Ashley Greene looks like she should be home schooling my penis.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:02 AM
Jon Gruden seems annoyed with how long college football games take
menarky IS annoyed at how shitty gruden is at commenting on any game, college or pro.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:04 AM
Yeah, I had no idea what that sentence meant either.
P.S. How can Katy Perry be on anyone’s hot list after that pic of what she looks like without makeup came out? It makes me feel like I could look like the hottest chick ever if I had enough makeup on my face.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:04 AM
Maybe? I’d argue dropping a TD on the first play of the game, going keystone cops on Pryor fumbling the ball after carrying it like a loaf of bread, many drops by receivers including one by their Mackey award-winning TE that set up the clinching INT play, not taking advatage of a fumble and blocked punt in OSU’s territory in the 4th quarter would be blowing it. But that’s just me and I have an incredible hangover today.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
When I was at UF and the Jags had Brunell, Jimmy Smith, and Keenan McCardell and were awesome as shit they couldn’t fill their stadium then. They sold UF students $10-15 seats.
Great deal.
Jacksonville is just a really small town that has more affection towards the college game than the pros.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
id argue that OSU blew it more than arkansas.
dane schlitzengruben falling on a fumble and joe adams dropping 3 TD passes disagrees.
But, a win is a win.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
to be fair to the arkansas WR’s, it’s really hard to catch a ball that’s thrown 100 mph.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
Katy Perry is not unattractive, but anybody who puts her face among her top 3 attributes are deluding themselves.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
Totally agree
January 5th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
fantastic read on conquering self-doubt
I’d read it, but it seems way too long for me. plus, I probably wouldn’t understand it anyways
January 5th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
Apparently, English grammar and me don’t get along too well.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:09 AM

January 5th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
I was guessing about an 8 so not too far off. Another round or two of poor bowl matchups and I have to wonder what the next round of TV negotiations will be like. Will ESPN push for a playoff or +1? I would have to think so.
/sorry
January 5th, 2011 at 9:10 AM
Whatever, that’s what the juggs machine is for. But anyway good on OSU for getting the primate off their back.

to be fair to the arkansas WR’s, it’s really hard to catch a ball that’s thrown 100 mph.
ok, i noticed that too. mallett may have a cannon arm, but it looks like having a grasp of proper velocity eludes him.

http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/12/13/joe-jonas-moves-in-with-ashley-greene/
Jonas Brother. Travesty.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:13 AM
That was my feeling. Those things were coming in hot. It’s called touch Mallett.
Much like Orlando and Tampa, Jacksonville might have a lot of people but they’re still stuck in their small town mindset.
I don’t have a problem with it. It’s better than living in a small town that thinks it’s big…see: Cincinnati.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
Link?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
No it has everything to do with the retards at ESPN putting the games on Cable TV…Explained here
The shit Outback Bowl drew great…why? Because it was on network TV.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
So did Ark have a chance to win? I went to sleep because I didn’t give a shit who won the game.
/Team TBL
January 5th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
maybe I don’t understand what “small town mindset” means. I live here and I’ve lived in Memphis. Jacksonville feels bigger than Memphis to me.

Miz nailed it small steps, which started with no blackouts.
I worry that Boselli qnd Team Teal won’t be able to achieve the same level of success this summer. Not sure the corporate support is there to sell the premium seats.

top 3 gambling tease of the bowl season.
down 28-7
and then it was 31-26 and Ark blocked a punt with 1 min left. couldn’t scoop it up and run it in, but had the ball at like the 20.
INT on the 2nd play.
so pissed
January 5th, 2011 at 9:19 AM
Any of the Flordia ppl around I am traveling to Altamonte Springs, FL in Feb, can anyone give me details on area?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:20 AM
I read that. But what you have to take into consideration is the ratings sum of ESPN and ABC while the games are on. If ABC is broadcasting the Sugar Bowl last night, ESPN is either running figure skating from 2003 or WSOP which would net about a .2 rating.
Adding that number to whatever the game gets on ABC would be MUCH less than the ratings sum of a game on ESPN and ABC’s normal programming. It just makes sense monetarily.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:20 AM
He means there’s lots of cousin-fucking going on. Which explains the Memphis thing.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:20 AM
And, ironically, the first three numbers and the Mega Ball are exactly the same.
a coincidence isn’t the same as irony, unless the winner gets into a plane crash

January 5th, 2011 at 9:21 AM

January 5th, 2011 at 9:23 AM
Wow. I went to sleep around 10:30 when it was 31-21….or something like that. Kind of wish I would have stayed up. They need to kick those games off at 7:00. We’ve had a fucking month of pregame. No one needs to hear any more bullshit from ESPN.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:23 AM
Great game, horrible ending. Wish that kid could have ran the punt block back.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:23 AM
Oh shit, that picture of Al Davis on PFT is disturbing.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:24 AM

January 5th, 2011 at 9:25 AM
Interesting. I never thought about it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. There’s definitely an aspect of cannibalization with the ABC/ESPN relationship.

A football game should not take 4 hours to complete either.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:25 AM

January 5th, 2011 at 9:26 AM
lol. OSU is clearly above the law. No NCAA violations for getting 1000 mile test drives three different times is a joke.
It is ridiculous how long these games are taking. It would have been OK if they kicked off at 8pm, however I think the first play happened around 8:45.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:26 AM
It’s on the Superficial, a site I can’t access at work.

Anyone else kinda pissed that the second half didn’t begin until 10:40 p.m. EST? That’s ridiculous.

miz knows what’s up. He only wants to be able to bump into Vijay at Starbucks or Furyk at Publix. He’s not hanging with the “urban crowd” downtown, or the hillbilly Westsiders
January 5th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
Gotta think about West Coast though. 4pm start times blow. I’d think about shortening halftime before moving the start. Let the bands show-off during pre-game.

January 5th, 2011 at 9:28 AM
I don’t – that guy tried to be a player in a shady game and failed. He was willing to buy his kid’s way into a private school, which he knew was shady, then his kid blows the entrance exam and doesn’t get in anyway. I feel no sympathy for that guy because he was trying to cheat the system in the first place.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:29 AM
I agree. But if ESPN tries to stiff arm the BCS next time they’re going to point to their decisions, not the BCS decisions for lower ratings. Simple as that. When the BCS contract comes up again several companies will throw money at it just like they did last time.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:29 AM

this. and I would venture to guess the almost every area in florida except for maybe Mia cares more about college ball than pro.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:29 AM
Monetarily how? ESPN can only demand higher subscriber fees from carriers if those games are on ESPN, not if they’re split with ABC.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
this actually happened last Spring. Vijay drives a big ole Dodge Ram pickup too. I have probably seen Furyk in Publix, but I wouldn’t recognize him.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
LA can get fucked. 75% of the people in this country live East of the Mississippi. I’m happy to be quite unreasonable about this.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
Yes, screw the west coast, start that shit at 8pm, not 8:40. Part of it was the idiot ACC crew. And lots of incomplete passes with the Ark greasy hands and ArmPunt.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:30 AM
That’s not Cincy’s problem. Cincy’s problem is that they are all Kentuckians who happen to live on the wrong side of the river.
As for the game. WOOHOO!
/Shoots guns in air
//Both teams had ample opportunity to take over but didn’t
January 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
Screw the West Coast. Watching sports is better there 9 out of 10 times anyway, you don’t have to get greedy.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
im not sure why we give a shit about the west coast anyways when it comes to college football. it’s not like they give a shit about it out there.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
This I agree with. But what if ESPN comes to the table and says we’ll give you $X for the BCS as-is, but $X if we move to a +1, and $X if we go to say an 8-game playoff (unlikely as it is)?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
Love Michael Lombardi. He and Belichick are special friends.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
Yeah, I’m in the same boat. And if kickoff was at 8 EST, it would be 5 over there. No sympathy. I’d easily take the trade off if I lived over there.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
ESPN already demands the highest sub fees, by far. And they continue to rise. A 10% bump in prime-time ratings a few nights out of the entire year wouldn’t change that much.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM
I know. Sometimes Belichick lets him be a top.
/NTTAWWT
//but seriously, Lombardi must let Belichick put in his rectum.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:34 AM

NICE Roundup pick, TBL.
Not sure what’s better, the r/u picture or today’s Groupon.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
Wait, I think we’re actually on the same page here. If ESPN broadcasts the games instead of ABC, ESPN can demand higher sub fees thus the switch to a cable broadcast makes sense. I agree with you in principle, though I don’t think it really moves the needle much in sub fees.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
I see that you did there.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
The could try that…but the BCS offers their package of the 5 bowl games (4 if on another network because of Rose Bowl rights).
They aren’t offering playoffs, it’s the individual bowl games selling their TV rights. So that wouldn’t work the way you’re thinking it to.
If they go to 8 team playoff more likely than not, they aren’t playing the 1st round at bowl sites…you’re shutting out at least one of the bowl sites.
The plus one might work better.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Ha! Sorry. I always hated algebra.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Also, I think ratings has more to do with the sale of advertising time, then TV contract negotiations.

I don’t understand why Ben Affleck would get a director Oscar nomination for the Town. It wasn’t even that good of a movie. Does everyone think it’s awesome because it’s a bunch of actors (and Blake Lively) doing a Boston accent?

January 5th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
It was well shot, awesome, and Jeremy Renner kicked all sorts of ass. But no, Affleck shouldn’t get a best director nod. Not saying that it wasn’t a good job by him, but it shouldn’t.

This times 300 million. I’m fucking pissed Ladd is gone. The Blackhawks would be in first place in the division if Ladd was still on the team.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Should be the leading candidate for the Norris, IMO. Should also be starting the AS game over Duncs. Guy is having a helluva season. Not bitter though, he had no place here with that kind of salary.
Besides, I like Morin. Love seeing another #27 in an Indian Head sweater.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
What he said.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Yep.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Anyone seen Blue Valentine with that HOTTIE Ryan Gosling?
Ooh, this movie talk reminds me Golden Globes in 2 weeks hosted by Ricky G.
/love him
January 5th, 2011 at 9:49 AM
This is what a vodka hangover does to you. Improper capitalization and a tense chance in the same sentence.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:50 AM
You’re comparing the Town to the Dark Knight? The stunts alone put the Dark Knight way ahead of The Town.
/semi truck flip scene is fucking sweet
//spoiler’d?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
So true. They took a tried and true premise (heist movie) and added something I had never seen before. It was well acted, well written and shot really well, too. I would think that is surely going to be one of the 10* best picture nominees.
*seriously? 10 fucking movies need to be nominated? bull shit.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Disagree…and even if this statement was true, the scene where they get out of the minivan and stare at the cop, who turns his head, would have made the movie worth the money on its own.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Krak, your Gravatar is awesome. Kai Haaskivi 4 Ever!
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
Hey now! If the Wings had no injury issues and somewhat better than average goalies they would easily have 65-70 pts already.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
yeah, 10 was way too much, should have just increased it to 7 since there’s normally no more than 1-2 films that get snubbed.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
The Blackhawks would be in first place in the division if Ladd was still on the team.
They’d certainly be better off. Not a knock on Buff, but as SC said, not a good fit at his salary (RFA this summer) and not a great fit on the blueline between Keith, Seabrook, Campbell and Hjalmarsson.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
It goes…
1.) Ladd
2.) Madden
3.) Sopel
4.) Burish
5.) Byfuglien
6.) Versteeg
47.) Niemi
956.) Fraser
In terms of players that are missed.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
im not going to bash everyone’s brains in with OSU shit but…
I’LL MISS YOU CAMERON HEYWARD!!!
/reaches out longingly as cam heyward rides off into the sunset
//please don’t get drafted by the steelers
January 5th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
SG it is a meme about Dark Knight being one of TBL’s fave bank robbery flicks.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
YEAAAAAAAAAAAA MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRS!
/sorry, had to get that out of my system.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
They did it so they could throw a few bones out there to the successful commercial stuff that doesn’t ever have a shot at actually winning…and Pixar films.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Did the Wings leave the division?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
SG – My old man is torn for tonight. He’s not sure if he should wear his Burish sweater to the game or not. I voted yes. Gotta support the guy even if it is the 2nd trip here this year for Dallas.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
You have a plethora of issues to make you better. We just need Laddy.
/sobs
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Oscars need a playoff.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Dude was a fucking tank last night. They lose that game going away without him. ARK had no answer for him. He looks like a 3-4 end to me. Does that sound about right?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
956.) Fraser
I hate you so much right now.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Hayward was a fucking tank last night. They lose that game going away without him. ARK had no answer for him. He looks like a 3-4 end to me. Does that sound about right?
January 5th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Just a crazy finish. Still don’t understand how Arkansas came all the way back nor do I understand how they ended up losing.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
The Town is a horrible horrible movie.
Bunk: you knew what really blew? Treme
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
to be fair that first 6 minutes of Dark Knight was a better bank robbery scene than anything the Town had to offer.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
Ha, homeless radio guy getting a fucking SWEET deal from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
yep, he’s tailor made for that position.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
Hey now… may not be Oscar worthy but I am a BIG fan of Pixar. Toy Story 3 is one of the most entertaining things I saw in the theater last year. I’m just a 10 year old in a 26 year old body. Cartoons will never not be fun for me.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
Town was awesome. surprised people didn’t like it.
i need to see True Grit, but I’m not one for Westerns (but I’m a damon fan)
January 5th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
That’s probably his best fit, but he could play strongside DE in a 4-3.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
Bobby. Petrino.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
Oh. I know about the meme but I totally missed the connection. My bad.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
save your money TBL, True Grit put me to sleep
January 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Pittsburgh it is!
January 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Tressel going all Tressel int he second half. Arkansas special teams played like fucking gangbusters in the second half.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
yea…karma’s a bitch. the football gods got their revenge on that snake last night, that’s for sure.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
true grit was good, but not the best western i’ve seen and not the worst. bridges was awesome, the violence was great and brutal and swift, not glorified.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
They aren’t used to being on that kind of stage. First BCS Game ever. Buckeyes have been to 6 straight BCS Games, they are vets.
That and Ryan Mallet = Ryan Leaf 2.0
January 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
i need to see True Grit, but I’m not one for Westerns (but I’m a damon fan)
you will be glad you did, its excellent
January 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Link?
January 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
But is it better than The Fighter?
January 5th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
But most of all, there’s this: with the Hogs within one possession following the Herron safety, their final four drives started at the 50-yard line, the Arkansas 44, the Ohio State 48, and the OSU 18. Total results of those drives? 39 yards, three points, two punts, and one backbreaking turnover. There’s clutch defense, and then there’s that. GRADE: A-
Just a crazy finish. Still don’t understand how Arkansas came all the way back nor do I understand how they ended up losing.
Umm their receivers could catch shit last night.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:01 AM
No, Pixar should’ve won the past 123541435 oscars (except Cars) but the academy would never let it happen. Pixar is the whole reason the animated category was created, and the move to 10 is another way to throw them a bone without ever recognizing that Pixar puts out the best movie every year (except Cars…and Cars 2…where the fuck is the Incredibles 2? Brad Bird…stop fucking around).
January 5th, 2011 at 10:01 AM
yea…karma’s a bitch. the football gods got their revenge on that snake last
where was the tatoo’d five’s karma? they all played pretty well
January 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
Coming up in the afternoon, 5 OSU players declare for the draft.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
Company Men comes out next month, Affleck Tommy Lee Jones K Costner and Craig T mfing Nelson. should be good
January 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
I’d take him on the Packer defense…damn shame they’re drafting at 32 though
January 5th, 2011 at 10:02 AM
Oh my god this. That is one of the greatest super hero movies of all time.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
Joakim Noah with… a see-thru moment? Man alive! Julia Stiles is envious of that titty!
/don’t ask me how I found it
January 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
Which I’m GLAD to see. Here is my issue. I work with a lot of homeless people in my job. I volunteer time to help the homeless when I’m not working. Giving a large sum of money to a homeless guy who has a history of drugs and alcohol isn’t going to end well.
I hope someone gets him cleaned up. Rehab…THEN pays him. Or he’ll be right back where he was a few days ago.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
syphillis
January 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
I agree. The older I get, the less interested I am in dramas and serious movies. I have no ambition whatsoever to see The Town, True Grit, or even Inception.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
This is the very reason I refuse to see it.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:04 AM
Before last night, I would’ve said you would have a chance to get him at #32. Probably not anymore.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
You must not be familiar with the concept of Tressel Ball.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Supposedly, he’s been clean for 2 years.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
I can’t recall a game where a team dropped more easy passes than last night. The film breakdown is going to be a painful one for the Hogs.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Westerns are like omelettes. They have simple ingredients and appear easy to make but it’s hard to make a spectacular one and real easy to fuck it up.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
I wanna go wid yoo!
January 5th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Supposedly he’s two years clean. Supposedly
January 5th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
A lot of early mock drafts had him going around 26-32. No shot the Steelers will get him after last night. He is the kind of player they need since the D-line is getting very old.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:10 AM
The fact that Up and Beauty and the Beast are the only nominated Best Picture nominees tells you what the academy thinks of animation.
Role immersion just isn’t seen the same way between cartoons and real life. Hell there are a couple of comedies that should have been up for Best Picture, Actor, Actress, awards, but the Academy doesn’t respect those types of films and performances.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
…
I’m excited for him. The guy has talent. But, a homeless person who has had drug and alcohol issues without help is a ticking timebomb.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
Company Men comes out next month, Affleck Tommy Lee Jones K Costner and Craig T mfing Nelson. should be good
Saw the preview. Looked good to me also.
I thought Jeff Bridges & the girl in True Grit were fantastic

January 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
part of it is that it’s difficult to find an actor with a comedic performance worthy of an oscar. few can pull it off, and most really great comedies are a result of a really great ensemble cast.
I agree, there should be more in best picture, but best actor categories would take a daniel day lewis type performance to get even thought of for a nod.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
No doubt. Hopefully everything works out for him, but the odds are against it.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:20 AM
True. “good” comedy is also a lot more subjective than a “good” drama so I realize it’s hard to say what should and shouldn’t have been nominated.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
Has he actually blown, or almost blown, a 21-point lead before? I actually called it on last night’s post that Tressel would go uber-conservative. I just didn’t think Arkansas was coming back.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
I actually liked the Town. Lively’s accent was bad though.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
If Mallet has time to throw and his receivers don’t drop passes that game would have been completely different. Still don’t know why they didn’t go max-protect a few times.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
i have no data, but i can’t remember anything like a 21-point blown lead while tressel’s been there. not positive tho…
January 5th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
are these Vegas odds or ESPN odds? Hannah Storm and Adam Schefter want another on-air highfive to celebrate someone else’s personal failures.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
because they need the extra WR’s to get open guys. petrino’s offense runs two different patterns on each side…on the last INT they had a zone beater to the right (mallett just missed thomas who dropped into coverage in a zone blitz scheme) and on the right, they had a blitz beater route combo.
but OSU gets pressure on every QB not named scott tolzien. that shouldn’t have been surprising. they have a good DL.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
This is true, I will not miss playing against Mr Hayward. I thought overall Mallett played pretty well considering the constant pressure, especially when its coming right up the middle.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
I will always defer to your nuts and bolts knowledge of this stuff, but I would think against OSU’s decimated secondary you could max protect and take a couple shots down the field where, when given time, Arkansas seemed to have open receivers all night.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
tom…that’d work against man coverage, but OSU plays in a cover 2 shell almost exclusively. even if ark went max protect, OSU would still have 7 guys in coverage…they almost never blitzed last night, which was strange.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
The issue was that OSU sent 4 all night. Never a big blitz or anything. No crazy stunts or anything complicated. The interior three for Ark were getting their ASSES kicked last night. There was also a play where a tight end or a full back tried to chip Heyward on the outside to help out the tackle, but it didn’t matter.
Max Pro wouldn’t have helped them last night. The WRs catching balls would have though. That last play was just a good defensive call for OSU and a little misfortune for Mallett while he was under duress.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Because they didn’t need too. Getting pressure with 4 is a defense’s dream scenario.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:38 AM
same play that the bucks ran (albeit the DL in coverage was on the other side) against miami that resulted in jacory harris’ first INT, fwiw…
January 5th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
That makes sense guys. Thanks.
I’m amazed Arkansas had the season they did with that O-Line. In the replay of the INT last night, 2 or 3 O-lineman were laying on the ground after trying (and failing) to block.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
So Spence, gun to your head as I wait for something new, does TP and the rest of the Unfortunate 5 come back next year?
January 5th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
I definitely would have done this, especially after OSU lost Chekwa. However, OSU’s defense is a complicated scheme (remember, the King of the Zone Blitz, Dick LaBeau is an OSU grad and shares kindly with them) so max protect would be difficult against them.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
TP and solomon thomas come back. posey, adams and herron are gone (adams is the one thats gonna hurt really bad…he had a great year at LT).
January 5th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
Exactly. Going Max Pro when the d is only sending 4 is just suicide, especially when the interior of your o-line is getting owned.
I figured Posey was a goner. I would honestly come back if I was Herron and Adams. Even with the suspension, OSU has a real good shot at getting to the NC game.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
Well than you havent watched enough OSU, they did this to everyone except Wisky.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:47 AM
I don’t see Adams leaving. He’s a Columbus guy and he knows the kind of backlash he would receive.
Would Posey really leave after voluntarily saying he was coming back at the press conference, before Don Tressel’s offer he couldn’t refuse?
Boom would be stupid to come back.
Thomas is back for sure.
Pryor… hard to tell. He sounded pretty noncommittal last night, and i think half of those dozen “I’m sorries” last night may have been preemptive apologies for breaking his promise.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:49 AM
boom and adams both hinted towards leaving during their interviews. and RB’s are dumb if they stay…they take too much punishment, especially a guy with no wiggle who’s undersized for a thumper like boom.
pryor’s coming back. when the ego said “im not ready for the NFL,” i believed him. that takes some chutzbah to say…something mark sanchez should’ve said.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:50 AM
TP and Thomas are definitely back. I think Posey is back. I’m iffy on Adams, who already waffled last night post-game, and Herron, who claims he will be back.
Herron was rumored to likely head to the draft before any of this come up as OSU has a BEAST running back who they redshirted this year. Remember the name Rod Smith. He will be the next OSU nightmare at tailback.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
My love for Mierda notwithstanding. 6th round pick, plays on a not shitty team, and progressing. As far as getting value for your skill, he made the right decision.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:55 AM
And I meant 6th pick over all, sorry.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:59 AM
i got ya, jersey.
i was just shittalking anyways.
