NCAA Suspends Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor, Five Other Buckeyes For the First Five Games of 2011
Ohio State just announced that QB Terrelle Pryor and four teammates have been suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season as a result of “tattoogate.” The other players suspended are RB Dan Herron, OL Mike Adams, WR DeVier Posey, and DL Solomon Thomas. These being some of the most high-profile Buckeyes, one wonders – will they bother to stick around to play half a season, or just bolt to the NFL early?
Ohio State’s early 2011 schedule includes Akron, Toledo, Miami, Colorado and Michigan State. [UPDATE: ESPN's Joe Schad reports in exchange for tattoos, Pryor sold "sold his Big Ten ring, a sportsmanship award and gold pants award." Sounds like a guy who may not be sticking around Columbus. Here's the entire release.]

Yikes. This has to effect recruiting, right? I probably wouldnt want to go to a school with a backup QB starting the first five games.
December 23rd, 2010 at 11:58 AM
UM just cream their pants, they have a chance now.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:01 PM
Do you (asking generally) think Pryor actually leaves for the NFL now?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:02 PM
this is absolute 100% pure bullshit.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:02 PM
Love it. Love it. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it.
I’m assuming they are suspended for the bowl as well?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:02 PM
He sold his GOLD PANTS! I cannot abide this!
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 PM
Jesus, maybe we’ll finally beat these ass holes next year.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 PM
Man. Nebraska is the first game all will be available. Of course it is. Michigan State, Colorado and Miami all get OSU w/out those studs. Wow.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 PM
This is a witch hunt. I have always wondered how I watch division 1 college football games and see these kids with $1,000 worth of ink covering their arms. How are these kids paying for their ink? It’s a tattoo epidemic! Seriously, it’s horseshit.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 PM
why not just suspend them for the bowl game considering this is not a big deal? the are going to lose anyways.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:04 PM
No it won’t. They have the number 2 QB Braxton Miller coming in and if anything, this expedites progression to get on the field. The rest of their No. 2 ranked class didn’t think they’d see the field that early, so next year’s status in no way would have them alter their thinking.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:04 PM
No, they don’t.
No, they’re not.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:04 PM
For tatoos. Yay NCAA!
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:04 PM
Sounds like a guy who may not be sticking around Columbus
Spence, can he make an NFL roster next year as a QB?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:05 PM
Penalty would be less if it was the coaches at fauly…. Remember the “rub the belly pat the head game”, college basketball/football is like the modern version of that:
assfuck the expendable/replaceable players, jack off the coaches/schools that get you money
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Sounds like a guy who may not be sticking around Columbus.
Do you (asking generally) think Pryor actually leaves for the NFL now?
Why stay? He can’t change NFL minds with half a season (even a great half a season). Meanwhile, a good combine/scouting process and he might go late 1st/early 2nd to some team and get a head start on his Troy Smith-style pro career.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:07 PM
At least I don’t have to worry about my bowl pick.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:07 PM
This blows. I may dislike the Buckeyes, but this is completely bogus. Tattoos? Really? My school had a fucking drug dealer on the team and no one is suspended for next season.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Says a lot about the state of Michigan football that those aren’t a cherished possession anymore
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:09 PM
So what would the ruling have been if they traded Farmville favors for tatoos?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 PM
They were selling awards and rings which is a clear violation. You can thank UGA for that. They sold some SEC titles rings a few years back and the NCAA put the rule in place. Miami, Michigan and Colorado are very happy.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Early guess is that “good behavior” will get this knocked down to 2 games a piece.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Funny. I first saw this on ESPN while I was opening up a box of OSU gear my girlfriend sent me for Christmas.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 PM
So what if one of the football players volunteered to help someone move and received a case of beer as a thank you? Would they get suspended for that, too? This is all so fucking stupid. I hate Ohio State but this is just incredibly dumb.
The NCAA rules book needs a makeover in their “crimes and punishments” section.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 PM

-auburn can pay cam newton’s dad six figures…no penalty

AJ’s suspension was bull shit. 4 games was obscene for what he did. 5 games for this seems equally retarded, but I think there has to be more to the story. Something doesn’t add up.

Troy Smith was miles better than Pryor in college. Unless Pryor changes positions NOW and then develops maybe he’ll get drafted in the top 3 rounds. I can’t see Pryor going that early to anyone.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:17 PM
What?? So then why suspend them for five games either?
Because that would require a bit of rational thinking from a completely irrational organization. I LOATHE OSU, but the NCAA is a complete joke.
About 10 years ago Wisconsin got caught up in something like this-players got free shoes… they were suspended the first 3 games… if I recall correctly, we ended up losing to Cincinnati, costing us an undefeated season.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:18 PM

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:18 PM
SG, as far as the moving thing goes, athletes can recieve compensation for work done, as long as it is considered fair market value, so for that, I doubt they get suspended. the thing with this is, they had to know they were violating a rule. athletes may not be the brightest bulb in the light socket, but they know the fucking rules. retarded? very. but don’t play dumb and act like they didn’t know the rules.
FWIW, I want them to play in the game so they don’t have a bullshit fallback excuse when Arkansas beats that ass.

The rule that says “you can’t profit from your status as a college athlete”, that’s been on the books for, oh, just about forever, that everyone is well aware of, and has been for years? That rule? If you don’t like that rule, watch the NFL.

I have to admit, I’m a little happy they’ll miss the MSU game. But seriously, 5 games for some tattoos? The NCAA is a joke. It’s okay for Cam Newton’s daddy to try to get paid off of him, but this gets you suspended for half a season?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:20 PM
Peter Warrick was suspended two games for shoplifting. These guys get 5 games for bartering. What the hell is going on here?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:21 PM

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:21 PM
They sold awards, uniforms and rings. That’s the issue…not the tattoos.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:22 PM
OSU suspended them. I’m a pessimistic motherfucker but I dont think they suspend them that many games unless they want to NCAA heat off their shoulders just in case they are doing some shady recruiting stuff
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:22 PM
What happened here is their dads gave the tattoo parlor some memorabilia – the players knew nothing about it.
that’s everyone’s story from now on right?

I don’t think many of us are upset by the rule per se… it’s just with the Cam Newton story and all the arrests/rumors swirling around other programs… Oregon, Florida, etc…. busting these guys over a couple of tattoos seems downright silly. This is what the NCAA is coming down hard on? At the same time letting that player at Florida who beat up his girlfriend remain on the team? That’s what I’m upset about anyway.

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:23 PM
Sad but true.
I am leaning this way as well. This was a school suspension, and 5 games is hefty. Seems like they are using a hack saw when a scalpel would do the job.

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:27 PM
Laveranues Coles took the fall on that deal. Got kicked off the team.
Almost always the school will preemptively suspend or sit a player whose eligibility might be in question. That way, there are no repercussions down the road for playing an ineligible player. Take a look at UNC. They sat several kids to start the season this year that were eventually ruled eligible to play.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:27 PM
The five makes sense for OSU. Go over the top in punishment, and make your appeals to the NCAA. Despite what people babble out on here, OSU does have a pretty solid record in recent years with compliance and in dealing with the NCAA. Those five games will absolutely be reduced. Question is, will missing any games force the upperclassmen to think about leaving earlier?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:28 PM
This all needs more PAWWWLLLLLLL.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:28 PM

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:28 PM
There goes TP’s heisman.
Will TP and Herron leave for the NFL or stay for half a season?
If I were OSU, I would try to guage TP and if he is going to come back, I would appeal for suspensions to start with the bowl game. If he is leaving then try to win one last game with him.
Too bad they didn’t just practice too much.
Fuck OSU!

Ironic that this was discovered when TP’s boyfriend spilled beans after noticing his tramp stamp while going at him from the rear.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:38 PM
Here’s what I understand in the very soon thereafter:
The suspensions are for selling things that the players received as a part of playing football.
This happened when each of he players in question were freshmen.
Ohio State’s compliance department did not cover this part of the NCAA Compliance rules until they were sophomores.
It is 5 games. 4 games (30% of season) is the standard punishment, similar to AJ Green’s earlier this year. The 5th is for not coming clean as soon as they received education about not selling things that they received for playing football.
The players are eligible to play in the Sugar Bowl because the NCAA admitted that the players in question did not receive the compliance education until after the transgressions took place.
The players are required to give back the money, which will be donated to charity.
There is possibility of reduction in penalties if the school and the players involved comply with their repayment in a timely fashion.

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:45 PM
i love how this is phrased.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:45 PM
this just in…michigan still sucks.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM
And, they played Texas in the Fiesta Bowl when he was a freshman.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM
but i said it here first..quit trying to one up me all the time
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM
The NCAA has looked so bad this year. Cracking down on some stuff, but letting the biggest fish walk free.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM
BEER GARDENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM
fuck the newton’s. fuck the SEC. fuck the NCAA. fuck michigan. fuck penn state. fuck terrelle pryor for being an idiot.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:47 PM
This
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:47 PM
Nothing. The Big 10 is still Ohio State and then 11 other teams as far as I’m concerned.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:47 PM
Plus if his family needs money and to get reinstated he has to pay back $2,500 – how does he do that? He is not allowed to work right?
What about his Golden Pants trophy, didn’t he win… Oh, he already sold the Golden Pants. Oh, Terrelle.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:47 PM
Offers cigar from secret stash.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:48 PM
this is where i get confused. i have no problem with these kids getting suspended but when you let others walk when they obviously broke the rules is just unfair.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Man tonights game is going to deep throat cattle. The Panthers…really?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:49 PM
This is getting boring… Is it time for LeSU to (redacted) up another big game yet?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:49 PM
I lived in PA first!
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Sorry if it’s Duckworthy but aren’t you at least a little happy that Boom Herron is gonna miss 5 games, Spence?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:49 PM
I’m seeing a pattern here with you TF regarding animals and sexual acts.
/not judging
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
The other piece that I left out.
Ohio State’s compliance office turned this information in to the NCAA as soon as they were made aware, which was on Monday. With the information that Ohio State provided, the NCAA acted immediately because of breaking the NCAA “preferential treatment bylaws”.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
will be fun seeing braxton miller win the heisman as a freshman
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
yeah, you’re right.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
I was just in Flint yesterday.
/trying to be part of the gang
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Noted. I expect to hear you only crowing about how great the Dawgs are next season. No Nebraska stuff now.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:50 PM
no…he’s been tits all thru big ten play.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:51 PM
Herbie is killin’ Pryor on the radio. Sounds like he doesn’t really mind this move.
see my last 2 tweets if you’re listening to Cowherd talk to Herbie

December 23rd, 2010 at 12:51 PM
ha ha ha. Deflecting the conversation. TP is a stupid, cheating fuck head that will be an H back for the Panthers next year.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM
ok Thanks Wally- damn it seems like he’s been there a long time – I forgot that the bowl 2 years ago he would have been a freshman.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM
will be fun seeing braxton miller win the heisman as a freshman
Probably not the Heisman but he should be eligible for the most exciting player in the last 30 years award
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM
and michigan will still be a 7-5 abortion of a football team.
then again, OSU isn’t the program on probation, michigan is. throwing stones, glass houses and all that.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM
new post please
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I don’t get why I can’t talk Huskers. The Big 10 is a better league than everyone save for the SEC. It’s just that OSU is on a different level as a program. Entering 2011 I’d go OSU, NEB, MSU, Wisconsin, PSU, Michigan and then Iowa.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Damn, SAE still does Beergardens? I was Sigma Chi. Nothing quite so fun as sliding down the hill into a manually dug pool and then doing a keg stand while under water.
Still can’t remember everything I did at the Fortress house parties. Jungle Juice was such a bad/good idea.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM
lol. He’ll be just like TP winning the Heisman as a frosh.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Sorry about that. I don’t go back very often. I live in Chicago.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:54 PM
oh, and fuck kirk herbstreit. fake ass buckeye.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:55 PM
I think Wisconsin’s program is probably ahead of MSU and Nebraska right now but that’s just, like, my opinion, man
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:55 PM
Honk.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM
they’re nothing alike as players aside from skin tone.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM
No, because unlike Cecil Newton’s phantom $200,000, there’s actual evidence of the dinosaurs.
**Spoiler Alert** Santa isn’t real…
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM
No clue.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:56 PM
I mean heading into next year. Wisconsin loses their QB and two studs from the o-line. Michigan State brings back a lot and Nebraska will have more talent than Wisky next year, though Wisconsin is a bad match up for them.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
You need to start paying more attention to your future home. MSU will sink back to their normal levels, as they lose quite a few upperclassmen. Still no idea who is the QB at PSU. And doesn’t Wisconsin graduate almost their entire offensive line?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
Well you just said the B10 is OSU and everybody else, so why bother talking about the Huskers then.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
oh, and fuck kirk herbstreit. fake ass buckeye.
Thank You
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
If (when?) the BIG XII dissolves, I’d love for the Southwestern Conference to make a comeback. All the Texas schools and both Oklahoma schools. Thoughts?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
Not even sure what this means, but maybe if Iowa didn’t suck donkey cock the Big 10 would be closer to the SEC.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM
ha, I was in Grand Blanc last week. I stopped going to Flint when my cousin was shot there
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
Is Herbie a fake Buckeye because he doesn’t breath through his mouth or because is actually orange?
/serious
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
It doesn’t mean that “everyone else” can’t upset OSU (see Wisconsin this year). It just means that if OSU plays each team 10 times, they are winning a lot more than they’re losing.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
yeah hes awful
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I believe TP said the exact same thing.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:59 PM
fuck you.
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:59 PM
Wasn’t Bielema the worst coach in the Big 10 just a few months ago? Strange how a few wins can change everything so suddenly.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
TP was right.
also, wisky’s gonna take a blow when his mackness steals paul chryst.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:00 PM
side note: almost finished that Blackwater book Gods and TSH recommended and, while eric prince is certainly crazy and shouldn’t be trusted, i haven’t really changed my opinion on gov’t contractors over seas. they need to be regulated (not sure what the current standard is) but they remain the best of the best for personal security.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:01 PM
It may take Nebraska a year or two to adjust to B10 football (we can’t play 7 DB’s) but we will thunderfuck Wisky on October 1st…
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:01 PM

December 23rd, 2010 at 1:01 PM
I think Texas will watch what happens with BYU’s independence as crazy as that sounds. Texas is one school that could make a ton of money that way.
I’m also curious to see what happens with the Big East basketball schools as they get zero benefit from sharing the conference with “BCS” football schools.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:01 PM
bauserman for heisman
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:02 PM
Southeastern Michigan well represented in this thread.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:02 PM
Bauserman would start for any other big ten team.

About time, Tressel has been running a dirty program for years. Punishment was most likely increased because of the previous incidents of free cars and no show jobs under that slimebag coach.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
How does large piles of $$$$ = zero benefit?
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:03 PM
lol he is the worst
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:04 PM
I love opposing fandom.

About time, Tressel has been running a dirty program for years. Punishment was most likely increased because of the previous incidents of free cars and no show jobs under that slimebag coach.
JoePa is dirty as well, he just can’t remember how…
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:04 PM
awful.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:05 PM
Never could equate Flint with SE Michigan. Somehow it doesn’t seem the same as places like Albion and Jackson.
Oh, and Lansing is a woman of negotiable affection.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:06 PM
joepas diaper is dirty
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Flint considers itself Mid-Michigan, with the Tri-Cities (Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland).
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Late to the party, but HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Forgot the Michigan Geography tag on this post.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:09 PM
It’s my understanding that the non-football schools don’t get any of the BCS football money.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:09 PM
love the OSU, jr. fans chirping like their program is worth a shit.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:12 PM
Then Flint is wrong, although Mid-Michigan can have it.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:13 PM
/Tress turned down Coop’s advances, obviously
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:14 PM
You complain about the disadvantage of playing SEC teams who oversign. We complain about the disadvantage of playing an OSU team that pays its players.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:15 PM
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
/me
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:17 PM
yall pay your players too. boosters don’t have a coach to pay big bucks to.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:19 PM
He sold his gold pants. Clearly OSU isn’t paying enough.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:19 PM
If anything, it’s proof otherwise. The dudes sold their stuff to get money. If they were getting paid, wouldn’t they hold onto their own stuff?
And, the oversigning bit? That is a blatant disregard to the NCAA rules, just as this case is. The difference is that its the coaching staff and athletic department snubbing their nose at the rules instead of dumb 18 year old kids.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:21 PM
I still blame Michigan. If the Golden Pants weren’t so fucking easy to win for the last 9 years, guys wouldn’t think about selling them. If a freshman sells his, he knows he has 3 more coming.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:22 PM
I wasnt clear enough. Obviously looking the other way (like Clarrett and his cars) is akin to paying. When your star QB, who you know for a fact is not wealthy, keeps showing up with hundreds if not thousands in new tats, you should probably have a meeting with him.
Its also about fostering an atmosphere where this is acceptable, which again, this isnt the first time.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:22 PM
They didn’t get their TV contract divided into two sections, and we all know it isn’t basketball bringing in all of that money.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:24 PM
Mark Emmert is sure doing a Brownie level job in his first few months on the job. Last time he started a new job he saddled UW with Tyrone “The Program Killer” Willingham. So maybe there is hope that he’ll end up driving the NCAA into the ground too.
Also, anybody else wonder if the NCAA is taking cues from South Park and making decisions with dying chickens these days?
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:26 PM
better than fostering an atmosphere of mediocrity where the players are allowed to just kick the shit out of whomever they want.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:31 PM
You’re correct, TP is the only poor black kid in college football with tats…give me a fucking break.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:32 PM
Get the fuck outta here
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:36 PM
To quote the NCAA:
“High-profile players merit high-profile enforcement.”
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:41 PM
To quote Coop:
“OSU players with tatoos = NCAA violation”.
December 23rd, 2010 at 1:47 PM
To me all OSU players are a violation of human life, but my 3 years of living in Columbus has clearly biased my opinion.
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:10 PM
Words too big for you?
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:11 PM
Worst part of this deal for TP – the suspensions are without pay.
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:30 PM
wake me when OSU is on probation like michigan is.
December 23rd, 2010 at 3:00 PM
I know what you meant, I just disagree with it. Lansing is centrally located in southern Michigan, obvi.
December 23rd, 2010 at 3:38 PM
How can you disagree with the fact that Lansing is a whore? It just is.
