Ballin’: Manu Ginobili Does it Again
San Antonio 113, Denver 112: Great play by Manu or bad call by the officials? Either way, that’s two nights in a row that thrilling NBA games ended on last-second shots that were nullified. After the jump, JR Smith’s awesome dunk – “WE JUST SAW A MAN FLY!” – on Gary Neal, and Carmelo’s slick one-handed crosssover that kids everywhere will be practicing today.
New Jersey 97, Washington 89: The Wiz are winless on the road this season – they’ve lost 13 straight away from home – and despite rallying from 23 down without starters John Wall and Andray Blatche, the Nets were just too tough down the stretch (that’s funny to type). Nick Young scored 22 and Gilbert Arenas added 19, but the Wizards can’t keep Wall healthy (knee tendinitis) and are a pathetic 6-18.
Boston 102, Atlanta 90: Nate Robinson’s fifth start of the season was a success – 18 points and a victory. But nothing he did Thursday night was as cool as Wednesday night’s faceplant after Pierce hit the game-winner. Atlanta 2nd year reserve point guard Jeff Teague had the second best game of his young career – 18 points in 25 minutes. Remember how nice Teague was at Wake Forest? What an electrifying talent.

Charge calls are ruining basketball.

‘Melo learned that cross from Manu, so it’s fitting Manu beat him.
/Manu does it 100000x better, and it’s STILL not a travel.
//posted the not a travel argument yesterday after seeing the video–ended up in moderation limbo.

So much for Flip Saunders coach of the year, eh, TBL?
December 17th, 2010 at 11:50 AM
They don’t make that foul call on Melo if he is in the Garden!
Right!?
December 17th, 2010 at 11:50 AM
That’s a charge – no question
December 17th, 2010 at 11:50 AM
Balki is such a fucking puss.

A little clarification regarding the Ballin’ post from yesterday
The Bulls will still be a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference. Some New York fans, buoyed with confidence after Wednesday’s near-win over the Celtics, have already started speculating that Noah’s injury has opened the door for New York to sneak into the East’s top four.
This is wrong, unless you think the Knicks are going to catch Boston and win the Atlantic Division or overtake the Magic. The NBA’s complicated seeding rules reserve the top four seeds in each conference for the three division winners and the team with the best record among the rest of the conference.

Even if it was a charge. My point stands.

Electrifying talent? Maybe. Electrifying basketball player? No. Dude has the leadership skills of a box turtle.

Washington’s unwillingness to trade Arenas suggests to me that just maybe the NBA will attempt to revisit the Allan Houston rule with the next CBA negotiations.
Just a thought.

22-3. If this was the Heat, the hype would be unbearable. Vintage Duncan last night with 28/16.
December 17th, 2010 at 11:58 AM
I had no idea there were so many teams burning the midnight oil in an attempt to get Arenas.
December 17th, 2010 at 11:59 AM
this wizards couldn’t beat an AAU team right now.

Saw Duncan in Charlotte last year. He played trerribly and looked old with his massive knee brace. Thought it would be the last time I would see him. Masterful work by Popp and the staff to manage the wear and tear on the vets.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:01 PM
Yeah, seems like more of an inability to trade him…doesn’t he have more than two years left on that deal? Guaranteed contracts are funny
December 17th, 2010 at 12:03 PM
Nobody pays any attention to San Antonio because they’re boring as hell. They’re a dinghy in the Bright and Flashy Armada.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:04 PM
Got tix to go see Hornets next week against Nets and Hawks. Any chance that the Nets make that deal for Melo before Wednesday?
Come on opulenz owner…make that happen!
December 17th, 2010 at 12:04 PM
Definitely a charge. But it’s my understanding, after KU beat UCLA, that you swallow the whistle the last 5 minutes of a game to avoid such outrage. And Gerard is right, Balki is a flopping bitch.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:04 PM
4 years left at max money. No one is touching that.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:05 PM
My favorite think about JR’s dunk are the “Cool Grey Jordan 11′s” he is wearing.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:05 PM
Thats the big surprise with their hot start. They are doing it with the big tree playing less minutes. Young and new guys (Hill, Blair, Neal) are stepping up. And Matt Bonner has been lights out from 3.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
Nice carry Melo.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Arenas for Rashard Lewis needs to happen.
The one-handed cross-over was a popular move by the early Euros. Kukoc had it all but perfected. It’s also my only move as a basketball player after seeing Bobby Hurley do it on a fast break years ago.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Not saying people are breaking down the door to get Arenas, but Ted Leonsis has been outspoken about Arenas remaining with the team for the season. Like I said, it was just a thought.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:09 PM
That is the only deal I could see working for the Wizards.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:09 PM
@Butters – Look at Gilbert’s contract. Nobody is going to take on that much money for that many years.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Its a crying shame they still have that boring label Lefto. Spurs are top 5 in scoring. Manu’s hitting game winners. Parker is divorcing Hollywood starlets. Bonner’s beard is getting its own reality show. Lot’s of things happening on the River Walk.
/One of these might not be true
December 17th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
There are a lot of bad contracts in the NBA. The Wizards would only need be willing to take one back, i.e. Rashard Lewis.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:13 PM
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Spurs brand of basketball, and I’m a huge Duncan fan. But it’s a glitz and glamour league, and they’re pretty low on sizzle factor.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:14 PM
Jesus, maybe they’ll get lucky and he’ll forget to exercise the player option in time
Fun site to play around at, can’t believe Andrew Bynum makes that much money
December 17th, 2010 at 12:15 PM
A lot of times people will say you need to see a tremendous athlete in person to truly appreciate how imposing/fast/etc. a guy is, but thats the way I feel about the Spurs on offense. It’s surgical and their ball rotations are amazingly quick. Every guy seems capable of looking straight at the rim, pump faking and no-look passing to the open guy. If you sit close enough your head can spin along with the defense’s.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
I love the assumption that NBA GMs won’t make bad moves. Do you guys watch the league or just comment on it?

I think that’s why people discount them now. They got swept by the Suns last year and could easily lose a first round series, with their style now.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:23 PM
Bam 3 way trade. The Suns get about a billion 1st round picks from the Magic in this scenario.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:35 PM
I am sure if Washington and Orlando included cash to the Suns, Sarver would sign off on it.
December 17th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
sadly yes. I shall forever loathe the diamondbacks for bankrupting Colangelo.
