College Football Bowl Gifts For 2010
College Football players love Bowl Games. That’s not surprising. They get showered with free stuff. Every text message, golf cart ride and drink bought is scrutinized during the regular season, but, when it comes to the bowls, it’s Xboxes and Best Buy Gift Sprees for everyone! This year’s bowl gifts have been announced. Here are a few of the highlights.
New Mexico Bowl: Pen with box and a Christmas ornament? You shouldn’t have!
Humanitarian Bowl: New Era skull cap, waterproof breathable parka, winter gloves and hand warmers. All useful items in Fresno, CA where the average temperature never drops below 50.
New Orleans: A Balfour ring. Nothing reels in the ladies like a high-school ring from the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Fortunately, Ohio and Troy can tweet about how much the ring sucks from their new iPod Touch.
Alamo: Xbox 360, awesome. Twenty-dollar gift card to Game Stop that isn’t enough to buy anything, not so awesome.
Texas: Belt Buckle. Didn’t see that one coming.
Pinstripe: Did not disclose. We are assuming a complimentary lecture on Yankee history and 15 minutes to breathe the rarefied air from the Legends seats.
Sun: Helen of Troy hair dryer and Souvenir coin. Two things that won’t make it into the suitcase on the way home.
Chick-Fil-A: Chick-Fil-A gift card + $250 Best Buy gift card = no complaints.
GoDaddy.com: Nikon S70 touch-screen camera package. In the Facebook/Twitter era, this probably won’t end well.
Gator: No electronics. Lame.
The gifts are lovely, but, obviously, nothing compares to being “the toast of the town” for a week.

The cold doesn’t bother me, it’s the driving back and forth to work after getting fresh snow. Covers up all the black ice.

If they don’t have them in Michigan, it’s gotta be RichRod’s fault.

So I’m going to NYC for the first time in my life from 12/30-1/2 for New Years and whatnot. I think we’ll be in Union Square for New Years? Going with my fiancee and a couple friends and we’re meeting more friends that live there… so I’m not doing planning. What’s Union Square like? Any suggestions for things I must accomplish in those 4 days?
December 10th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
oh and feel free to ignore me because that’s completely OT.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:01 PM
chicago…NYC is fucking awesome. just eat a bunch of mushrooms and get lost.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:01 PM
But some heroin from a bartender on the Upper West Side.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:01 PM
Well, it’s about NYC, which is high brow enough to appease the anonymous emailer.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:01 PM
Ashley Dupre.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:02 PM
I’m one of the “New Years Eve is overrated” people, but I’ve also never been in NYC for it. That being said, you’d have a hard time convincing me it wasn’t a whole lot of buildup for an overcrowded, fifteen dollars a drink, shout fest.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:02 PM
+1 stick of dynamite
December 10th, 2010 at 1:03 PM
i like your plan of attack.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:03 PM
I commend all of you involved in comments 88-91, well done.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
chicago – Union Square is pretty cool. there’s a bunch of holiday moarkets around the city right now (Bryant Park has one outdoors and Grand Central Terminal has one inside) that are pretty cool. if you’re looking to go up high, go to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State bldg ($21 to go up Top of the Rock and you go at a sched’d time instead of standing in a long line for hours).
December 10th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
When I was there for the first weekend of the World Cup this summer the bartender I had from the morning games I ran into at like two in the morning and he was insistent that I wanted some horse. I was all set though.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
I don’t necessarily disagree with this, but it was just a pretty good time to go- don’t have to take as many vacation days because of the holidays off. I do think I’ll be avoiding the hell out of Time Square.
Spencer- the shroom thing sounds like a great idea, but unfortunately it won’t happen.
I will not be buying heroin.
I’ll ask the lady how she feels about Ashely Dupre.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
What’s Union Square like? Any suggestions for things I must accomplish in those 4 days?
look at it as the next installment of the Bourne movies & just try to stay alive
December 10th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
Also had my first NYC experience a couple months back. Slice of pizza is a must. If you’re a fan of dim sum the best place I’ve ever been to is in Chinatown (get there early). Staten Island Ferry is a great time,it’s free, and you get a good view of the Statue of Liberty. Also don’t pay to go up to the Empire State Building…go to 30 Rock instead and make sure you go after sundown. That way you actually get to see the Empire State Building instead of being on top of it. Everything lit up looks pretty fucking spectacular.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:06 PM
chicago – me and the misses have been to NYC twice this year and planned out our trips both times. there’s a shit ton to do there. I can give you more ideas if you’d like.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Honestly I would say get tickets to a Knicks game. There’s not a bad seat in the Garden and it’s a pretty good environment.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Live a few blocks away from there, can give you restaurant recommendations.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Thanks for the outpouring of ideas.
Miz, toss a few more out if you like. Like I said, we’re going with friends and meeting friends, so who knows what we’ll end up doing. BUT if I’m the guy with all the ideas, that’s never a bad thing.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
Whoops, dim sum off of 20 Elizabeth St. Place is called Jing Fong.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
I’ve thought about this and may do it. I’m sure we could convince the girls to go shopping or something for a few hours without us, and me and my buddy are both huge NBA fans, so it could happen.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
Oh yes you will be.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:11 PM
chicago – if you want to tour Central Park, there’s a bike rental place that, if I remember right, is at 9th Ave & W 57th. my wife and I did the 4 hour rental and it was just enough time for us to ride around the whole park leisurely and take some good photos. also, take a trip down to the World Trade Center site. there’s a really good memorial/museum that will take you several hours to get through. then, you can walk from there down Wall St towards the South Street Seaport and eat over there. some great views of the bridges from down there.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:12 PM
Name a few good ones so I have some artillery when it comes time to eat. What do you know about ReUnion Bar? Someone proposed that bar for NYE because they seem to have a solid VIP type deal with one price.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:15 PM
oh, and like Badger said, if you do Top of the Rock, go sometime near sundown…like 4:30 or so. you can go up and stand on the north side of the GE building to overlook Central Park and then walk right around to the South side and look straight down Manhattan and right at the Empire State Building. it’s a pretty sweet view when the sun is setting. if you’re willing to chill up there for about an hour, you can watch the sun go down and all the lights come on.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:17 PM
Never would have thought Mole to be a horse guy…
/or gambler
December 10th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Christ, Miz. Sounds like I’ll definitely need to go more than this one time. I appreciate the recommendations though, and I’ll definitely propose some of these for things to do. I’ll almost certainly try to do Top of the Rock rather than the Empire State.
December 10th, 2010 at 1:27 PM
If I were a horse guy and were this big I would be dead by now.
