Albert Haynesworth Era in Washington Likely Over

Albert Haynesworth was suspended by the Redskins Tuesday for “conduct detrimental to the team.” He won’t be paid for the final four games of the season (estimated total: $850k – but he’s appealing it). Haynesworth won’t even talk to coach Mike Shanahan. Good luck trading him, although I can think of one portly coach who likes reclamation projects and probably thinks he can turn Haynesworth around. Here’s a photo of Haynesworth at Hooters, and one of him talking to Hannah Storm. [Twit-Pics via Jovan]

The Colts would – and should – take him in a heartbeat (though definitely not at that price).
December 8th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
Haven’t we established that Fat Albert is not a fan of the 3-4?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:06 PM
Quick, some link us all to the video of Haynesworth getting knocked to the ground by the Eagles OL guy then just pathetically laying there.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Fat, lazy, and overpaid. He’s the American dream.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:07 PM
This is the only one I can find. But it’s not the full play.

2 out of 3 isn’t bad, is it?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Ha. Until I looked at the link, I thought you were talking about Andy Reid. I think Philly would be a better fit since Andy’s reclamation projects actually seem to turn out alright more often than not.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
I thought Haynesworth’s initial beef was that he didn’t like the 3-4?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Here’s the gif.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Wonder what they owe him if they cut him.

Should have refreshed
December 8th, 2010 at 12:09 PM
I thought Haynesworth’s initial beef was that he didn’t like the 3-4?
Jets D linemen are supposed to eat blockers and leave lanes open for blitzers on pass plays. Haynesworth’s dream job, I’m sure.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
I think he’s got $21M gaurenteed.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Sanders you think the colts could handle him?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Gets me every time.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Wonder what they owe him if they cut him.
the remainder of this year’s salary, and not the 9 million over the next 2 years. So he makes 41 million for 2 years worth of being a POS. I’m going from memory, but that’s pretty much it.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM
I’m pretty sure his contract was front-loaded.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:11 PM
Seriously, stick him in Indy and let him loose.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
I think he’s got $21M gaurenteed.
he got paid that already. It was a “7 year deal worth 100 million” with 41 million guaranteed, adn he’s already been paid the 41 million.
That’s why he was such a hot commodity (or should have been) when they wanted to deal him. The remaining real part of his deal with 3 years and 16 million. Now it’s 2 years and 9 million, or something close to that.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
Pretty sure his real beef is working. Hes already been paid, whats the point.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
Seriously, stick him in Indy and let him loose.
This must not happen for at least another couple weeks.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
Seriously, stick him in Indy and let him loose.
either there or Houston.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:12 PM
Put him on the Texans!
/ because I don’t give a rats ass anymore
December 8th, 2010 at 12:13 PM
He’s not a criminal, so there’s that. He wants to attack the QB and he wants to win. Him playing in Indy alongside Mathis and Freeney would give him a decent chance to do both.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:13 PM
Philly plays 4-3 and he’d get a chance to play the Redskins twice a year. Plus, the Eagles love to rotate the d-linemen like crazy to keep them fresh. I think I’m talking myself into this.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:13 PM

Never understood guys who play hard only for their contract year and then take it easy. You’re not working for this contract, moron. You’re working for the next one.
Just glad the Saints didn’t trade Jammal Brown for him.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:13 PM
He wasn’t and isn’t, but I’m sure by now, he just wants to save face and get on a team that doesn’t hate his guts. I wouldn’t say no to the Jets trading for him.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:15 PM
What about the Giants? Don’t they use all four DL as pass-rushers?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:15 PM
better’d
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
I’ve never understood how people can/want to be so bad at their jobs at the professional level in something that is supposed to be fun.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
He wasn’t and isn’t, but I’m sure by now, he just wants to save face and get on a team that doesn’t hate his guts.
I would wager that this guy doesn’t give a fuck what anybody thinks. I’d also wager that he’s the one who put that shit in Jim Haslet’s shoe.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
either there or Houston.
Really? Would that even be worth the effort for the Texans? I realize Okoye is not exactly lighting the world on fire, but still.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
That’d be an awful lot of money paid to their defensive front. Although, I think Osi is a free agent. I could see the Colts not wanting to bring Haynesworth in because 1.) he’s malcontent and potential distraction and 2.) Mathis has been bitching about an extension for a year now.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
I think it’s unlikely, but what about a reunion with his old DC from Tennessee? Jim Schwartz, now in Detroit.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
he might be a good fit there, actually. he’d take pressure of mario at least.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:17 PM
What about the Giants? Don’t they use all four DL as pass-rushers?
they’re set up there. That’s a good front 4 rotation.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:18 PM
Do they have everyone locked in for next year?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:18 PM
That’s eerily similar to the rationalization I heard from Redskins fans when this business about him not wanting to play the 3-4 started bubbling up.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:18 PM
Really? Would that even be worth the effort for the Texans? I realize Okoye is not exactly lighting the world on fire, but still.
if you could get the actual Haynesworth that does damage, then abso-fucking lutely. He used to demand a double team and routinely beat it. He really tore the league up for 2 years.
Imagine nobody chipping Mario Williams, ever.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Do they have everyone locked in for next year?
the inside guys yes, as Sanders said, not Umenyora. But still, they just drafted another D end. They’re pretty set I would think. No need to take a flier on a guy that questionable.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:20 PM
This is my dream. To be able to make teams pay for singling DT’s on every play, instead of still allowing five yards a carry.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:20 PM
Didnt Wilbon say something on PTI yesterday about how when the Redskins played the Bears the Bears players were clapping when Washington took out Haynesworth because he was so good? Not sure if I hear it properly.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:20 PM

Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but the only contracts I understand less than NFL contracts are NBA contracts. If he gets released by the Skins, he still gets the guaranteed money from them, but for any other team is it null and void or, if the Texans pick him up, are they risking being out some cash if he doesn’t return to the form he once had?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
Is anyone’s contract in the NFL really ever locked in?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:21 PM
this has bengals or cowboys written all over it
December 8th, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Not the Cowboys, they have an all-world DT already, and they play a 3-4.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:23 PM
im not surprised the haynesworth era ended in disappointment. it was handled poorly from start to finish, like every other thing the redskins do.
having said that, albert can take his rich, fat, lazy, selfish bluemoon drinking ass and go play in the hindu kush. fuck him.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:23 PM
I could definitely see this happening.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:26 PM
If the motherfucker produces like he’s capable, I’d certainly take him in Cincy.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:26 PM
Not the Cowboys, they have an all-world DT already, and they play a 3-4.
Ratliff is not as good as advertised, and I’ve actually heard some scuttlebutt (secondhand from my dad from dallas sports radio) about the Cowboys looking to switch into a bunch of Cover 2 stuff next year.
And MS. There aren’t guaranted salaries only bonuses. If they kicked him off their team now, they’d have to waive him, and somebody else might agree to pay the remainder of his salary and pick up his contract going forward, but it’s only guaranteed through the end of the year.
IF he clears waivers, nobody owes him shit. That’s why everybody wants those giant upfront bonuses all the time.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
IF he clears waivers, nobody owes him shit next year. I meant next year.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Uh oh, spaghetti-o.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Why not just sign him to be a nickel/dime pass rushing DT. Most 3-4 teams show a 4 man front in passing situations (though usually with 2 lineman and OLB at the DE positions). He doesn’t ever have to worry about eating blockers and he would probably be just as disruptive in a situational role.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
i could see him going back to Tennessee or going to somewhere like Arizona as well. Arizona is gonna need all the help they can get when Fitz is a Bear next season.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
I’d love him on the Vikings but they already wasted a 2010 3rd, and they need all their ammo to trade up in the draft to get a quarterback
/fingers crossed
December 8th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but the only contracts I understand less than NFL contracts are NBA contracts.
NBA contracts work like this. They’re fully guaranteed for the most part, but with built in option years negotiated. Mostly to the players advantage. A very few contracts have unguaranteed years at the end. To find the actual value of an NBA player, you can generally take his annual salary and divide it by 3. That’s how much he’s actually worth. Unless that player is over 6’8″, in which case you divide by 4. If he’s over 6’11′, he’s usually worthless.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:29 PM

Thank you sir. That makes a lot more sense.

Florida Panthers piss off Jews. Now even more people hate hockey in Florida. As I understand it, that’s a large segment of the population in certain parts of the state.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
AZ would make sense if they didn’t suck so bad. Their 3-4 is run differently than most in the lineman get up the field instead of eating blockers. Look at the success D. Dockett has had in the system.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
If the season ended today, they would have between the #9-13 pick. They should be able to snag a QB with that pick, considering the depth in this class.

Con trac tion
December 8th, 2010 at 12:33 PM
My guess is they’ll trade back. Nine-13 seems a bit high to take the second-rated QB in this class. But that’s just me, though. I was actually happy when the Colts drafted a DE with their first rounder last year, and we see how that’s worked out.

I enjoyed this part: ‘Florida fan Caity Kauffman offered a blow by blow of the yarmulke search on Twitter, with updates like: “At guest services hanging out with an actual Hebrew woman who is distraught about lack of yarmulkes.”‘
A Hebrew woman?

The only thing worse than that promotion is the writer’s use of “Oy Vey!”.

I could see that too, I wouldn’t have a beef with Christian Ponder

I can’t imagine wanting the 8th best offensive lineman available with your first round pick. But then who knew Saffold would be a day 1 starting LT?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:37 PM
Mel Kiper’s all stars, QB-ed by Trent Dilfer, with Jake Locker and JaMarcus Russell backing him up.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
anyone in Boston here? i’ll be there the rest of the week if someone wants to grab a drink or ten…
I think Coop moved to Boston recently. He’s usually up for a good time. Your kind of good time.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
Best guess: Detroit or Tennessee. Back with Fisher or Schwartz.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:39 PM
Yeah, I know. That’s what Polian said the other night. That had they known that, they would’ve taken Saffold but “hindsight is 20/20.” I think they may have to just pony up and sign a LT and shift Charlie Johnson to RT. Unless they somehow luck into a Doug Free-type guy dropping to them in the draft and surprising them.

Doug Free is a right tackle. Dallas still needs a left tackle. And 2 guards and a center who can remember the snap count and call his own blocking assignments.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
Best guess: Detroit or Tennessee. Back with Fisher* or Schwartz.
*If Bud Adams sides with Fisher and not VY.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Yeah, I know, but they could get by with a Doug Free-type guy playing left tackle for a year or two. Charlie Johnson can’t do it, and Ryan Diem has imploded and needs to be put down. They’re not getting an upper-level guy unless they sign one. I’d settle for average play from an out-of-position RT right now. It’d be a huge upgrade.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Yes, CT
no thanks. i have to keep a low profile during my stay.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Umenyiora isn’t a free agent. He has a contract through next year. Kiawanuka’s contract is up, but I doubt the Giants sign him since he’s in for a long rehab. Barry Cofield, a DT, is also up and he’ll be interesting since he’s played well recently. Giants will NOT sign Haynesworth. They are notorious for not bringing in trouble makers and I can only remember one time ever that they did. (Burress).
Giants also have Bradshaw and Steve Smith as free agents so those guys need to get taken care of first.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:51 PM
Just make sure you guys don’t draft Gabe Carimi. That guy is going to be an uber bust. If he ever makes the NFL, for one, will be super shocked. Any gm who gets the idea to draft him should just be fired and shot on spot.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Are you serious, Jersey, or just trolling?
December 8th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
I’m serious. THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANYONE TO TAKE GABE CARIMI IN THE FIRST ROUND. NONE. Use it on a qb or a rb or a defensive end or something. But do yourselves a favor and avoid Gabe Carimi at ALL COSTS.
December 8th, 2010 at 12:58 PM
He probably wants him on the Jets…which means he would need to fall to between 19 and 22 in the draft.
/9-7
December 8th, 2010 at 1:44 PM
Here’s what I can’t figure out–why do fans of a team that hasn’t been relevant for 15 years still think they have a God-given right to treated to good football? Shanahan sucks. McNabb sucks. Haslett sucks. All things we knew before the season. If that crapstorm of a roster, and those two clueless coaches, had been put together anywhere else, they would have been laughed at for weeks. But since it’s DC, and some still think they are relevant, people thought it would work. Just stupid.
December 8th, 2010 at 1:46 PM
No shit. those 2 tackles in STL are fucking phenomenal right now. If they had a guard, they’d be a brutal team to play. Maybe the best young roster in the league.
