Bill Simmons Will Be a TV Analyst for the Heat-Warriors Game on ESPN December 10th
Bill Simmons, NBA analyst? A few minutes ago, ESPN leaked to USA Today that Simmons will be working the Heat-Warriors game Friday as an NBA analyst alongside Dan Shulman and Mark Jackson.
Interesting year for Simmons, huh? He’s getting more fill-in duty on PTI. He broke some news on Randy Moss getting traded from the Patriots. He got embroiled in a mini-feud with Keith Olbermann. His website project is in the embryonic stage. And now, he’s getting some work as an NBA analyst.
Remember the prospect of him leaving earlier this year? Seems like his agent did a great job getting ESPN to expand Bill’s TV presence. [USA Today]

I laugh because Simmons has been on TV numerous times, and he still doesn’t understand that you have to tilt your head down a little bit when you’re on camera. Otherwise it looks like you’re tilting your head back and looking down on the other person.

I think moreso because TBL’s got a bully pulpit in the sports world, and he chooses to champion some really stupid issues, or be petty about things like Eli Manning or Notre Dame football.
Certainly there’s jealousy, since TBL has always been successful, but also because (probably) the idea of a college football writer who only watches the Michigan game and then does other things is distasteful to a guy who watches every game he can.

I certainly have no knowledge of the details of the sale but I assume TBL gets what ever figure he is paid to receive and that’s it. I cannot recommend Benjamin Button highly enough. Warning: it’s depressing as all hell. I was tearing up throughout the movie and just flat out balled like a baby toward the very end. For a guy who grew up in the “Greater New Orleans” area, seeing everything go down the way it did, and having the specter of my grandmother who just upped and died a few months after coming home from Katrina, leaving my now 90-plus-year-old grandfather alone in his big house…hey, it was certifiable an EPA disaster with all the dust in that theater and the car ride home.

That would be a misuse of the term religion in my opinion. Religion is a statement of an inherently unsecular ethos, which things like “mom and apple pie” while near and dear to the heart of many Americans, is not any sort of sacred creed.

And I also couch my answer in the fact that Nationalism is essentially a 19th century construct. So if it were to be used a catch all phrase now such as it was for events 1848-1918 then I think it would be an invalid use.

I agree. If you think about it, we’re not that far removed from black people having to attend different schools, sit in different parts of the restaurant, and drink from different water fountains. I think there is a sense of “black people can openly date a white woman in the south without being lynched now, so we must have that race relations concept all figured out now” followed by a dusting off of the hands.
