Jets. Patriots. Monday Night Football. AFC East Division On the Line. Winner Hosts a Playoff Game.
The Jets won the first meeting, 28-14. They’ve won four games in a row (none over opponents with winning records). They’re a surprising 5-0 on the road (haven’t beaten a playoff-bound team, though). Last year, the Jets won the early meeting with the Patriots – 16-9 – and then were destroyed in Foxborough when then-rookie Mark Sanchez turned the ball over five times. Please read nothing into any meetings prior to 2009, as the Jets are a completely different team (new staff, new QB, new offensive weapons).
The Patriots opened as 3.5-point favorites. It’s moved up to 4 a few places. How can you pick against Brady and Belichick at home? We’ll go with Patriots 23, Jets 10. This isn’t about fearing Sanchez in a big spot on the road – he was brilliant at controlling the game in beating San Diego and Cincinnati on the road in the playoffs last year – it’s just that the Brady/Belichick combo is too good.
Their wins this season blow away what the Jets (or anyone in the league) have accomplished: Baltimore, San Diego, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Put me down as cautiously optimistic for a Jets’ win (30% chance to win?) … but we’ve gotten our hopes up too many times, only to end up crestfallen. Witness:
Thoughts on how the Jets could win:
1) The Patriots’ run defense that shows up is the one Cleveland abused. New York goes heavy on the ground and pound (Greene gets 20+ carries, LT gets 15+). The Jets ran the ball well in both losses this season (100+ vs. Ravens & Packers). Which leads to …
2) Red zone creativity. The Jets play not to turn the ball over in the red zone because – I think – the offensive coordinator knows its his ass, and not Sanchez’s, if a turnover happens. Defenses – even bad ones, like Cincinnati’s – know exactly what is coming and when, and the Jets stall in close, often setting for FGs instead of TDs. See Baltimore, Minnesota, etc.
3) The Jets’ front four gets pressure on Brady without the use of the blitz. Good luck. Pace, Taylor and Ellis haven’t gotten to a QB all year, why would that change tonight? When Brady walks off the field with a clean jersey, I’ll end up staying up until 2 am writing about 10 defensive lineman the Jets should target with the 20th pick in the draft.
And yes, if the Jets do lose, I can totally envision a scenario where they go into a freefall and miss the playoffs. Worst case: Colts and Chargers catch fire, Chiefs win just enough games to sneak in and steal the other wild card (Baltimore’s getting one of them).

How bout them Colts?
December 6th, 2010 at 8:04 PM
Solid post, TBL. I was expecting super homerism.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:05 PM
Good post TBL
This has to be a major concern. Is beating up on loser franchises like Texans, Bungles and Lions really gonna prep the Jets for this game?
Pats 24 Jets 21.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:06 PM
I’ve got the Jets and the points.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:08 PM
Because the #1 rule in my life is that I cant have nice things, I expect the Jets will win.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:09 PM
I’ve been saying this over and over, but this is why I don’t view anything Jets related from TBL to be a “reverse jinx.” If you had their history (or worse, in my case) you’d expect the worst all the time too.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:09 PM
I’m rooting for THE METEOR.
/Two birds, one stone’d
December 6th, 2010 at 8:09 PM
Well done.
Yes. As they should. And if they don’t blitz tonight on defense, I don’t see them winning. That’s how Rex plays. Doing otherwise is something he’s not well versed in.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:10 PM

I didn’t take this post to be a reverse jinx from TBL. Don’t worry, weeze, he’ll provide plenty of those throughout the game.

the most awkward show ever is on NBC right now
December 6th, 2010 at 8:11 PM
Hey Lisk-
Did you ever look at that Vick thing I linked last week? I still don’t understand the statistic they’re using to quantify bad decisions? Or am I spoiling something you plan on writing about…

Mike Komisarek – Worst Defenceman in the NHL
December 6th, 2010 at 8:12 PM
Good post.
I think it comes down to the O-line for each team; Brady, with time, picks apart defenses, even if they have Revis Island. Sanchez under pressure doesn’t equal good things for NY. If NY gets pressure consistently, even if they don’t register sacks, they have a good shot at winning.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:14 PM
Saw a girl at the bus stop that looked exactly like Lela Star pre bolt-ons. Not too forward to ask her to marry me right then and there, right?
December 6th, 2010 at 8:14 PM
Love the NFL Primetime vid, thanks for posting that. I totally forgot Art Monk’s Jets years. And seeing Dan Marino pissed off after an INT always brought a spring to my step.
Several great things from then that desperately need to come back: Dolphins unis with the aqua pants, AFC games exclusive to NBC, and the much simpler, basic Sportscenter set.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:14 PM
Lots of empty seats at the Joe tonight for a really good game. Nemo is getting blasted early on though. I’ll flip over to MNF once it kicks off.

You’ve been gone too long, Gonzo. This was par for the course for Jason and the Jets.

It’s TBLAD. You don’t have to be stifled even if you’re Canadian. Sharks-Wings is a pretty good tilt so far if you need a reprieve.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:15 PM
In freaking 1969. Does it offer you any consolation that the Lions have three NFL titles in the 1950s? Bobby Layne, baby!

Not too forward to ask her to marry me right then and there, right?
Do it. If she says yes, run away. If she says no, stalk her.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:17 PM
I’m a Lions fan. I have no sympathy for teams with SB rings talking about their woes.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:17 PM
great video didnt ace ventura come out in 94? marino was a busy guy
December 6th, 2010 at 8:18 PM
I’m sorry. I should just bask in the glory from their Super Bowl win when I was -16.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:19 PM
You’ll always have that AFC Championship appearance that Sanchusqupatelburro led you to last season, GSG.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:19 PM
Can I get a link to this Lela Star?
December 6th, 2010 at 8:20 PM
Leafs have actually outplayed the Caps for long stretches. Komisarek is the 6th defenceman, has been on the ice for five minutes and the Caps have scored twice because he can’t clear the puck or the front of the net. He needs to be buried in the minors ASAP.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:20 PM
ah the gold ole days
December 6th, 2010 at 8:21 PM
True SC. The next few years look promising. It’s just going to take a lot to forget the shitfest that the Jets have been.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:22 PM
So McDaniels is fired and we’re minutes away from the Jets losing? Today might be a good day.
/ducks banhammer
December 6th, 2010 at 8:22 PM
Lions have won one Playoff game during my lifetime. Only Texans fans have it worse, as they are not ever going to get to the playoffs.

Ugh. what a letdown. Only funny part was SPOILER ALERT
- was when he crawled out of the Rhino’s ass.
And as for Marino his worst was in Bad Boys II.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:27 PM
Ovechkin just scored. Nice of him to show up considering he was invisible for the first 30+ minutes of the game. I wish terrible things on that overrated piece of shit. Wonder which team will kill the Caps off in the first or second round this year?

Also, the delivery service was a complete success. Holy crap is this onion this good. Probably going to need to brush the teeth twice tonight though.

December 6th, 2010 at 8:32 PM
Hannan provides them some blue line help… I wouldn’t plan the funeral and write the obit just yet on those guys. Ovie has been absent on the goal front for a bit here though. Been racking up the assists this year though.

Don’t worry, I’m countering with my Pats throwback sweatshirt.
/currently 0-0 this season
December 6th, 2010 at 8:40 PM
I could be wrong but I think the assists are just a reflection of the Caps potting a few more of his rebounds since the shots haven’t been going in the net.
I don’t know all the particulars of this new All Star game format but I’m praying that Crosby is one of the captains and gets a chance to pass on selecting Ovechkin, preferably for Stamkos.

OK. Need 20 yards of receiving from Santonio or Keller tonight to win my 6th in a row and make the playoffs in my money league.
Let’s get it on the first play, then the Jets can self-implode from there on out…
December 6th, 2010 at 8:49 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 8:53 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 8:54 PM
Maybe it’s because their uniforms are green like my Iggles. Or that I hate Boston. But I’m rooting hard for the Jets.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:54 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 8:54 PM
Staying calm under pressure. Nice job, Sanchez.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:55 PM
You’re a good man haha
December 6th, 2010 at 8:55 PM
Speaking of hockey players I hate, I’m thoroughly enjoying the death of the “Ilya Kovalchuk is a great player” myth. He’s been pathetic this year.
Sanchez doesn’t seem to be staring at the pass rush as much he used to. I’m guessing that’s a big part of the reason he doesn’t suck anymore.
December 6th, 2010 at 8:55 PM
The opinions of the dead carry no weight.

December 6th, 2010 at 8:58 PM
that’s a pretty bad challenge, IMO. might want that one back some time later on.

Has Taylor Chorney played any NHL games this year? Because he is worse.
No, which is telling in and of itself considering the roster. BIG difference between $4.5M and $1M though.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:00 PM
I think Rex used that challenge as a timeout to come up with a 4th down play.

December 6th, 2010 at 9:09 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 9:09 PM
Tough to give him help with the number of receivers the Pats have running routes each play.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:09 PM

10-0 deficit.
So much for ground and pound.
Plenty of possessions left. No time to panic. And remember, this ain’t the ’85 Bears on defense.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:12 PM
Vicks
December 6th, 2010 at 9:12 PM
what it is, tampa?
just so you know, jessica and the bears are frauds.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:13 PM
Brady – you did absolutely shit on that drive. one pass. Lets calm down the tough talk.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:13 PM
TBL where is the reverse Jinx?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:13 PM
Funny that the Jets defense is in full collapse now that former Bills undrafted FA Jim Leonhard is out
December 6th, 2010 at 9:14 PM
I’m gonna throw up. This is shit.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
delay of game. great start, guys.
/gosh i wish Rex had punted instead of kicked that F’ing FG
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
Jessica is a flaming Fagot but your Skins look like complete shit.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
I remember when that forward progress cost teh Bills a win against the Ravens
/fuckers
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
Jets fans don’t get to complain about other teams running their mouths.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
how do you miss that pass, Sanchez?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:15 PM
why’d HOlmes stop his route?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
lol true.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
there’s still 47 minutes left in the game and i am incredibly uncomfortable with how the jets are playing. they have big play potential and it will happen soon i fear.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
I’m sorry, but even if that pass was completed…
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
Okay, where’s Jersey? Only TBL and GSG isn’t sad enough.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
Pats fans clearly beat their wives extra hard before this game. Gillette is loud tonight.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
Looks like Sanchez is a little rattled
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
why throw a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 11?
is Braylon Edwards on the field?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
Sanchez with a couple very clutch throws on that drive.
/juuuuust kidding, TBL.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
oh my shank.
Jets in deep, deep shit.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
Well, fuck this noise.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
Couple bad throws in a row followed by a terrible punt. Ouch.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
Who the he’ll is sanCHEZ Gruden?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
it’s all falling apart.
quick.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
this jets offense looks familiar… ah yes, it looks exactly like my redskins’ offense.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
watching that punt in slow motion was hilarious. despite this shit play thus far, still plenty of time for the Jets.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
About fucking time!
December 6th, 2010 at 9:17 PM
That’s a big sack.
/TWSS
December 6th, 2010 at 9:18 PM
huge sack. MUST have a 3 and out
December 6th, 2010 at 9:18 PM
Jets fans don’t get to complain about other teams running their mouths.
Not like that would stop any fanbase.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:18 PM
i like the blitzing. HUGE play on 3rd and long.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:18 PM
he probably also has plenty of INsurance, too.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:18 PM
Air that shit out to Branch Tommy!
December 6th, 2010 at 9:19 PM
3 man rush.
why?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:19 PM
Wow. Drop 8 and still give up an 18 yard completion.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:19 PM
please please start blitzing again.
please?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:19 PM
They need to go for it here.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:20 PM
I hope NE goes for it. Welkaahh slant route.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:20 PM
Brady is in a zone Jaws? 2 for his last 7?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:20 PM
let’s be honest – Brady is gonna pick apart ANY ZONE IN FOOTBALL. blitz his ass
December 6th, 2010 at 9:20 PM
TBL Blitz all you want Tommy is gonna freak the Pocket.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:20 PM
THANK YOU.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:21 PM
In the Zone=2 fantasy pts apparently. Pick it up, Golden Boy.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:21 PM
they will blitz…a lot. but they have to pick their spots. blitzing too much opens up the screen passes and you can’t do that too early.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:21 PM
I have no idea what this means but I like it.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
If winning this game makes the Pats the “Super Bowl favorite,” I’d love-love-love-love to see what Drew Breeeeeeeeeeeeeees is capable of against New England’s D…provided BOTH teams somehow make the big game.
/Oh wait, I already did see that…

Pats fans clearly beat their wives extra hard before this game. Gillette is loud tonight.
obviously you never met Mrs. Irving Fryar
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
Touchdown, that was too easy. Jets D soft from playing the likes of the Texans?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
Cromartie is the worst.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
Fuck this.
Now they’re gonna praise brady for throwing two feet.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
TOMMY FREAKED THE POCKET!!!
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
And commence panic mode.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM
Holla. TOM BRADY IS IN THE ZONE
December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 9:22 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
please please start blitzing again.
please?

December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
Is Sanchez riding LT’s special Patriots game bike? That’s not a good sign.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
HOLY FUCK HE PASSED FOR TWO FUCKING FEET
December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
Souvenir City gets it.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
Over/under time to meltdown?
Next 3-and-out?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
Eric Smith blows. way to give away the blitz there, you jackass
December 6th, 2010 at 9:23 PM
Nice illegal pick, slot receiver.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:24 PM
this has blog deleting loss written all over it
December 6th, 2010 at 9:24 PM
Well Sanchez hasn’t been able to hit anybody in stride so I’ll give Brady that
Smith doesn’t look very interested in running back kicks – half speed
December 6th, 2010 at 9:24 PM
Uh, anybody think the Jets grabbed one too many “Goddamn snacks” prior to the game?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:24 PM
Jesus Christ I fucking hate announcers around Brady. Brady fucking throws a foot and a half, and HE’S getting primary credit for that TD?!
December 6th, 2010 at 9:25 PM
Leafs with a late comeback. This is exactly why the Caps won’t win in the playoffs.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:25 PM
Great, the evil empire is going to get home field advantage. I hope every member of that team DIAF
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
Not so much. He pretty much ran straight ahead and the defender just stood there. It worked as a pick but I’m pretty sure that’s a legal play. One of the resident football experts can feel free to correct me.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
i’ve turned the audio down to the point where the announcers sound like crowd noise. so much more enjoyable.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
GSG might explode after the “Sanchez has had a bad quarter so far, 2 for 7.”
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
Nah, not just a snack. A buncha fuckin’ cheeseburgers.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
So will Rex get wise and put Revis on Branch? how many more passes does he need to catch?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:26 PM
GSG your campaign against Brady right now is a bit silly. There’s no denying he’s playing quite well.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM
Could be worse.
/Not sure how
December 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM
WTF?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM
I’d start criticizing your defense instead of the announcers, GSG. It’s 17-0 after 1. The announcers are the least of NYJ’s concern as it stands.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM
now you guys see why I’m so pessimistic? i mean, come on … hugest game of the season and you dig yourself a 17-0 hole ont he road in the FIRST QUARTEr
same old mother bleepin jets
December 6th, 2010 at 9:28 PM
Wait, who is Revis on?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:28 PM
he just got a TD. That TD consisted of him throwing about two feet to his left, and Branch breaking tackles and running past everyone. Tell me how Brady did all that.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:28 PM
Leafs with a late comeback. This is exactly why the Caps won’t win in the playoffs.
Full credit to the Leafs Garland, but the Caps can’t put teams away and/or protect a lead.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:29 PM
We all know they’re playing like shit. Theres only so many times I can say “another missed tackle”
December 6th, 2010 at 9:29 PM
Jesus Christ I fucking hate announcers around Brady. Brady fucking throws a foot and a half, and HE’S getting primary credit for that TD?!
i imagine this is the exact feeling that pro-sanchize posts create around these parts. except, well, one has earned his praise.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:29 PM
Great, the evil empire is going to get home field advantage. I hope every member of that team DIAF

December 6th, 2010 at 9:30 PM
Wait, who is Revis on?
Revis is getting voted off his own island…
December 6th, 2010 at 9:30 PM
If that seriously happened, I’d laugh for twice as long as when SC did it. GO PATS
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
Consistently being able to make the ‘easy’ throws is what separates elite QBs from the rest. For evidence, refer to Sanchez’s throws on short crossing routes in the first quarter.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
Someone knows.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
Jets score here and everyone can stop panicking. Sanchez needs to stop playing like a pussy. Get Keller involved.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
he certainly took part in it. I’m pretty sure he was the one that read the blitz and made the throw. If the throw wasn’t placed as perfectly as it was, the play goes for 5 yards. Brady made a nice read/throw, Branch made a nice catch/run. Announcers will always slobber over the big names, including Mark Sanchez. But Brady’s definitely playing well.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
Held, i don’t even know where to start with my deep passion of hate with the pats. I hate them more than all the AFC north teams combined X 10.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
Well, I guess the Jets suck. Everybody drink!!!
Man, Tom Brady is good. Not just good. GREAT.
For my money, Applebees is the finest restaurant out there.
Bill Simmons is the greatest writer of our generation.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:31 PM
The run is working pretty well here for the Jets. Keep doing it if you want to keep moving those chains and give your defense a breather. Plenty. Of. Time.

this is funny:

I seem to remember a certain blogger being ecstatic about the pickup. I wonder who that was? I’m sure if Husker said it, we’d get a link crowing about it.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:32 PM
so GSG, Jersey … you prepared to go for it here if they don’t get it?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:32 PM
Actually i think TBL didn’t like the move.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:33 PM

I’m as shocked as you, but I wasn’t taking a shot at the Leafs, that one was for the Caps.
I’m all conflicted these days, I’ve really enjoyed the last two weeks, but I know it’s not a true reflection of the team. The Oil need a couple more years of 25-30th in order to really compete.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:37 PM

Love my 4Runner — I cry for you
December 6th, 2010 at 9:49 PM
Tirico is wrong. That would have been a waste of a challenge. Once the hand hit, it was a catch as long as he maintained possession. The forearm hitting right after doesn’t change that.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:49 PM
Car talk? Just traded my 4Runner for an Odyssey.
Are you wearing slacks?
December 6th, 2010 at 9:49 PM
I want to defile Summer Brees every time I see that commercial. The dumper on that one, I tell ya.

December 6th, 2010 at 9:50 PM
Love how The Donald’s hair was flapping in the wind there.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:50 PM
Not Molleken’s fault. Those Hawks teams had less talent than a strip club on Tuesday night.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:50 PM
Yea, just wanted the Jets to sweep though since I’m tired of the “little brother” shit that’s gone on the past decade.
Well, they do have 3 Super Bowl wins. You’re gonna have to get used to that.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:51 PM
My bad. I thought it had to be an elbow/forearm, not a hand.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:51 PM
Two kids and a dog were too much for the 4Runner, no matter how sweet the machine, and it was a sweet ride.
The Odyssey is too good not to have with a busload of kids (yes, 2 counts as a busload).
December 6th, 2010 at 9:52 PM
What? When did i deny that? I said i want to start winning.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:52 PM
According to Tirico, this is true.
/probably still wrong.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:52 PM
im not going to start hating on sanchez, but he looks hysterical in cold weather games. like the kid’s little brother in a christmas story…all bundled up. don’t want a catch a cold!

I wish GM still made the Malibu Maxx. Have one now, and that hatchback is nice
December 6th, 2010 at 9:53 PM
Tirico is wrong. That would have been a waste of a challenge. Once the hand hit, it was a catch as long as he maintained possession. The forearm hitting right after doesn’t change that.
Point is that you have those challenges to use on things that can turn the game one way or another…not to just use on something that’s middling at best.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:53 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 9:56 PM
While I am happy that the humble pie is being served here tonight, the fact that the Red Wings are getting sodomized by the Sharks at the Joe is really making my evening.

December 6th, 2010 at 9:57 PM
lol at Sanchez as Randy. “I can’t put my arms down!”
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
fantastic! Here comes a pick!
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
i don’t really know what this is all about, and i’m not sure i want to know why you want to live in a town where you could marry your cousin.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
at not developing their players and screwing them out of an education? agreed.
/kidding, they’re both better at separate things.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
I’ll correct myself. Rule book does say catch is two feet or any part of body but hands. I thought hand wouldn’t make you down (as in play over) but could count as contact point for establishing catch. I was wrong.
Still, that was not a play to challenge, because knee/wrist were both down also before elbow hit out.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
Sanchez 5/12, 42yards vs the worst passing defense in the league? Step it up, Kid.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:58 PM
Really hope Jimmy Howard falls apart at some point this season.
December 6th, 2010 at 9:59 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 9:59 PM

I wouldn’t worry about that. The Super Bowl is in a warmer place. He’ll play much better in that game.

Lisk is such an honorable man.
/that first challenge by Rex was still turrible.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:01 PM
at not developing their players and screwing them out of an education? agreed.
I know you are joking, but the CHL scholarship program, for those that take advantage of it, is very good. I wish it was available for the guys that become career minor leaguers, but secondary education isn’t for everyone.

i pooped a hammer.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:02 PM
Tommy doesn’t lose at home.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:02 PM
Agreed. The education thing works out for the guys who want one (see: Geez) but their are some ugly stories too. I’d be a happy man if my kid could ever land a scholarship to play hockey down south. It’s not happening with the current kid but I’m thinking I’ll probably get two more shots at it.

I’d rather the blue liners in front of him just get hurt or falter instead. They prop him up more than anything else.

December 6th, 2010 at 10:06 PM
that said, geeez and GG, I am not anti CHL by any means. I know they both have their positives and negatives. I just think that a. the CHL gets away with some shady stuff and b. for the most part a kid who is the type of kid who has to work his way to being a fringe NHL guy is better served playing college hockey.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:07 PM
Well I don’t know. You sort of want to be at least competitive.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:07 PM
I would say the Jet’s had a chance if Cam Newton were playing quarterback but…….
December 6th, 2010 at 10:08 PM
The problem with that first challenge was that there has to be clear evidence that the ruling with regard to gaining a first down was wrong. It was clearly a bad spot by the official, but not clear whether he gained the first down. Since it was lower leverage (not a turnover or score), not a good challenge unless it was completely indisputable that he was over the line to gain.

Believe me I know the arguments for/against very well. My brother is a perfect example of how the system here isn’t perfect, he’s 27 and I have visions of him living in my basement when his body gives out. Lucky he got a big signing bonus out of junior and has been good with his money.
Those numbers are a little skewed, fact of the matter is, a good chunk of the guys that don’t take advantage wouldn’t have the grades to get into a CIS or NCAA school anyways.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:09 PM
All true. Only problem is that a lot of these guys that are ‘fringe’ NHL guys are top prospects at age 14/15 when they’re CHL draft eligible. Would be nice if U.S. college hockey left the scholarship door open for those guys.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:09 PM

Agreed, having a full roster of guys losing their eligibility because maybe 2 guys have signed NHL deals just doesn’t sit right. I think both the CHL and the NCAA could benefit from revisiting that, but not likely.

establish the run on the opening drive or the game is over. need a 7-10 play drive so offense can get in a rhythm – a quick score won’t have the same affect.

I kind of like it when you use that “Charmin” label. It highlights your lack of understanding about the NHL game, kind of like screwing up how plus/minus works and the “Alberta Flames”. Keep up the great work.

December 6th, 2010 at 10:28 PM
Yes, each season is more or less resolved by the last episode. Think you’ll like the ending. Season 1 is the one that follows the book most closely.

There’s really no reason to give a shit about any other characters other than the ones directly related to Dexter, namely Rita and Deb. Also some strange casting too – LaGuerta has less than zero presence and authority as a cop, let alone a bigwig, and the actor that plays Rita’s mom in season 2 looks less than 10 years older than Rita.

Jets are getting their pants coached off here. Terrible first challenge and then couldn’t challenge because they would be out for the game. Then wasting a timeout down 21 to start the half. This is awful.
That being said I have the Jets -2 and the over 21.5 in this half. No way the Jets are 21 points worse than this NE squad. Show some heart.
On a sidenote, man, Dan Marino was really good. Some of those throws were sick. Totally forgot how good that dude was and that I never appreciated how quick and accurate he was.

Cassel > Sanchez?
December 6th, 2010 at 10:35 PM
The second gruden said he hadn’t thrown a pick, I turned to my friend and said it would happen that play. Fucking gruden…
December 6th, 2010 at 10:36 PM
That’s my biggest gripe with Dexter. Often times the ending is anticlimactic given the setup that preceeds it.
Well, I can’t get Mad Men or The Wire on Netflix instant watch, so I’m trying to watch a show I’ve at least heard a lot of hype about.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:36 PM
Bout 4 1/2 hours, give or take. It’s like 220 miles i think?
Geez. Thanks.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:37 PM
Can the title be “Mark Sanchez sucks”? Can it, can it, can it??
December 6th, 2010 at 10:37 PM
Now you tasted my mutton, how you like it huh?
December 6th, 2010 at 10:37 PM
Yup. New England traffic blooooooows.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:37 PM
When the 29th most accurate passer in the league throws it late over the middle—bad things happen.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:38 PM
Yup. Imma turn on the PS3 and get in a few games here. That was pretty anti-climatic.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:38 PM
pisses me off that dexter season 3 isn’t available to stream.
and i’m pissed that all the shows i want to watch now aren’t streaming. six feet under, the wire, the shield, breaking bad…
December 6th, 2010 at 10:38 PM
Damn a guy cant have a bad game?
December 6th, 2010 at 10:39 PM
Biggest problem with Dexter is that his wife/sister cannot act for shit.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:39 PM
sure, but the crash down to earth can be spectacular.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:39 PM
Sanchez reminded me of Jamarcus there
December 6th, 2010 at 10:39 PM
Don’t get me wrong, Dexter is a very good show. Characters get more developed in later seasons. Masuka (Asian guy) is good comic relief.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:39 PM
when you get effusively praised for things you dont deserve becuase your “pretty” and play in NYC, I have no problem pointing out shortcomings whenever possible.

People, there are videos of dogs walking around in booties on Animal Planet. Change the channel, dammit.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:40 PM
yeah. sucks that she’s his wife otherwise maybe they would have gotten rid of her by now. she’s horrible
December 6th, 2010 at 10:40 PM
Not when he is trying really hard to show his blowhard coach that he was right about being the best team in the league.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:41 PM
when you think about it, aside from the stars of TV shows, most of those actors don’t have a lot of range. take january jones for example. she plays every character she has been the same as betty draper.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:41 PM
Damn a guy cant have a bad game?
how many times did you tell yourself that when sexy rexy was under center for chicago?
December 6th, 2010 at 10:41 PM
I love me some Dexter. Agree with most of the things said about it. Season 2 was frustrating to watch, and the worst of all of them, but still solid.
/Hernandez = nice play
December 6th, 2010 at 10:41 PM
Still waiting for a good one. By any metric, he’s about the 15-20th best QB in the league (everywhere but here, that is). The Jets would trade him straight up for Bradford or Freeman right now, in the middle of the 3rd.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:42 PM
I don’t know what channel Animal Planet is on…Is it in HD?
December 6th, 2010 at 10:42 PM
Nice game
Dexter was hit or miss for me. Loved 1, 2 was meg to the point I bailed, then came back & watched all of last year w/ Lithgow. Strangely, have not watched a minute this year.

December 6th, 2010 at 10:47 PM
All kidding aside–you, as much as anyone, know that this is a week-to-week league. The Browns handled the Pats. You cannot make judgements on 60 minutes. Don’t lose the faith. they are built for a January run, and you know this.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:47 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 10:52 PM
How great is this. I friggin love it.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:53 PM
If Sanchez throws some picks, he has NO REDEEMING qualities as a QB. Inaccurate, no touch, did I say inaccurate? He’s just so damn mediocre. His numbers are not good, by ANY measurement.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:53 PM

this is a week-to-week league. The Browns handled the Pats. You cannot make judgements on 60 minutes. Don’t lose the faith. they are built for a January run, and you know this.
But if this is a week-to-week league, can you predict a January run?
Games get harder in January, not easier. And now the Jets are staring at the #5 seed and traveling for their first game.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:54 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 10:54 PM
Hey guys Revis is lights out! And look how little it actually influences anything!
December 6th, 2010 at 10:55 PM
Disagree, I think she’s very good. Emotionally she’s the polar opposite of Dexter, letting her emotions go batshit crazy, and she’s very good at that. I know that’s annoying (believe me I do) but that’s kind of the idea.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:55 PM
But challenges are the one thing Tirico as a better handle than most coaches. It has nothing to do with xs and os. If you’re going to go for it anyway the challenge is idiotic. Then that cost them 4 more points on the other TD. not like it matters, but Tirico was right to say something.
If Tirico says the Jets shouldn’t be blitzing the he should shut up.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:55 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 10:56 PM
and going to either NE or PITT.
i’m not saying the jets of the past 3-4 games have been a mirage, but i think it’s more apparent now their victories shaded more towards luck/fortunate circumstances than the mark of a top tier team.
and danny woodhead for 500 yards on that play. jets d got on the bus home already.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:56 PM
I didn’t say they’d make a run, I said they were built for it.
December 6th, 2010 at 10:56 PM
dexter needs to have higher stake/payoff. He’s had too many near escape. Now the audience knows he will eventually escape. They need to shake it up. Have him get caught. Or Debra needs to find out. I wouldn’t mind having him get caught and then escape. Maybe move to another city or country and try to hide from the world and at the same time try to keep up his hobby of killing people.
Something dramatic like that, if done right, will breathe new life into the series.

Agree, it’s getting to the point that you can’t believe a bunch of cops don’t see that Dexter is a murder loving sumbitch. Like people at the Daily Planet not figuring out Clark Kent is Superman with a pair of glasses.

Had the Jets worn a lot of games up until that part of the season, JPQ? I don’t remember off the top of my head
The Jets were something like 10-1 when Maguire started that, and they went on a long losing streak. Ken O’Brian was on his way to the Pro Bowl at the beginning of the streak, and by seasons end, Pat Ryan was the starter.
Darrell is totally right. They were 10-1, so media is blowing them. Costas waxed poetic about them, throws it to Maguire, who says they won’t win again.
Everyone laughed, then they lost 1,2,3,4 in a row. It was hilarious
December 6th, 2010 at 11:37 PM
Thank God Brady isnt acting like a complete asshole like he usually does at the end of a game.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:37 PM

14 concussions for Trent Dilfer, and he says, “explains a lot, doesn’t it?”. Never have I agreed with him more.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:43 PM
Thought I’d see ya early, but can understand why you didn’t pop in. Still 9-3.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:44 PM
I actually remember the Jets falling apart in ’86 (AFC that year was a horrible shitshow – didn’t they still end up #1 seed and then lose in the first game?) I was making a joke based on language. “they won’t don another game” leads to “had they worn a lot of games.” See?

I was out at Hooters. I just got home. I don’t reverse jinx. I don’t hide. Jets got their asses kicked tonight. Plain and simple. They (I) got their comeuppance. I am still in awe. This was the worst ass kicking of the season, right?

Who’;s the Make A Wish kid on the SportsCenter set?
December 6th, 2010 at 11:49 PM
I just tried to read through the whole thing. I didn’t see a lot of excuses, just a lot of shattered dreams
December 6th, 2010 at 11:49 PM
59-14 Oakland over Denver was pretty awful too, but in terms of expectations before the game, it has to be.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:49 PM
Is Woodhead related to the Partridges?
December 6th, 2010 at 11:50 PM
Still second behind Andre Johnson vs. Cortland Finnegan
December 6th, 2010 at 11:50 PM
Don;t know. Waiting for CJ to let me know. I couldn’t care less right now. I am so pissed that everything that could have went wrong went wrong. I am so pissed that the Jets couldn’t see that letting go of Danny Woodhead is something that is going to piss the organization off for fucking years. I can’t believe that ion one of the biggest nights for the team in years, they got their fucking dicks kicked in. I am still pissed as fuck and jealous of the fucking Pats. This fucking sucks more than anything.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:50 PM
How hilarious would it be if the Jets fell apart like the Broncos after that Raiders game?
December 6th, 2010 at 11:51 PM

No excuses from TBL. No reverse jinxes. He even went as far to struggle for a positive thing to say about the abysmal first half.

December 6th, 2010 at 11:53 PM
This interview with Woodhead is making me more violent by the fucking minute. This team can’t do anything fucking right. I am seriously about going The Fan on Joe McKnight. I might take my frustration out on him. If he died tomorrow, I would throw a fucking party.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:53 PM
This was the worst ass kicking of the season, right?
Dallas took 2 ass kickings worse than this one, and Philly gave one to Washington. The difference is that those guys let garbage time happen. The Pats just kept beating down.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:53 PM

that was an impossible GM problem. You can’t cut your first round pick in his rookie season.
December 6th, 2010 at 11:57 PM

December 6th, 2010 at 11:58 PM
Just tell CJ to tweet me or whatever the name. I’m sure someone will get it to me. I’ll make sure to change it as soon as possible.
Jets need to take their home games and win 1 of 2 of their road games. Period. Get to the playoffs and take care of business there. Forget this damn game and move the fuck on.

December 6th, 2010 at 11:59 PM
The 49ers lost to the Eagles 40-7 the last time they won the Super Bowl. Of course, they had a lot more talent than the Jets have now. But still.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:00 AM
if the defense doesnt get its fucking act together, they won’t make the playoffs
that would be an epic collapse, since they’re still 3 games clear of any wild card pretenders.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:00 AM
he was worse
December 7th, 2010 at 12:01 AM
Ballz, you mean the Eagles had more talent or the 49ers? Because both are true. Also, Buddy Ryan was the Eagles coach that year
December 7th, 2010 at 12:01 AM
This is the closest I’ve ever seen Belichick to smiling. He is really enjoying this press conference.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:01 AM
No Dirt. I don’t care. It was obvious who the better player was. Admit you made a mistake and move on. Every single fan and person could tell you that trying to save room for McKnight over Woodhead was stupid. I know for sure that when Woodhead got picked up by Belichick that the Jets would pay for that. I don’t know what to do right now. I am so pissed.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:01 AM
he was worse
TBL’s not capable of saying he’s bad without shitting on some other guys to soften the blow.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:02 AM

DOlphins very good on the road. Chi/Pitt need no explanation (jets on the road).

who knows how the Jets respond from 45-3 ass kicking.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:02 AM

I meant the Niners had more talent then than the Jets have now. But it was a different league.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:02 AM

Do i need to get a Jay Cutler jersey for this game?
December 7th, 2010 at 12:03 AM

December 7th, 2010 at 12:03 AM
Ha. My friend just said the same thing to me. He is really happy about this win. Good for him.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:03 AM
Admit you made a mistake and move on.
You can’t do it. If you cut your first rounder in training camp, you have to be fired as a GM. That’s why they did it. For sure it’s awful because of where he went, and how easily he fit right in.
I wouldn’t want Joe McKnight at all either.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:04 AM

December 7th, 2010 at 12:08 AM
No. He was a fourth rounder. The Jets owed him NOTHING. Sanchez vouched for him. Tannenbaum didn’t want to admit he made a mistake. But whatever, McKnight didn’t allow 45 points. McKnight didn’t throw 3 picks. McKnight didn’t get out coached. Brady kicked the Jets ass. Belichick fucked up the Jets coaching staff.
December 7th, 2010 at 12:09 AM
I couldn’t remember who that is at first, Chief, but oh yeah. I don’t think she ever even saw the inside of the closet. In other news, Clive Barker is gay. Jarred?
