Does Phil Jackson Not Like Rudy Tomjanovich?
Rudy Tomjanovich is a Hall of Fame nominee this year. Tomjanovich averaged 17.4 points per game as a player and lead the Houston Rockets to two titles as a coach. He’s got a solid resume. Currently, Tomjanovich is a scout for the Lakers. Phil Jackson was asked about Rudy T finally getting a possible HOF nod. He seemed unimpressed.
“We’ll see. I’m not on that committee. I like all the coaches to get a chance to go in.”
Jackson agreed with the argument that the Rockets’ championships were tainted because Michael Jordan was out of the league for the first of their title seasons and much of the next.
“Definitely,” Jackson said. “Without a doubt. Clearly, if the Bulls were whole, we would have won. It’s pretty much registered by now. When Michael played, we won the championship.”
Damn, Phil. Is this some residual jealously left over from when Rudy T coached the Lakers during one of Phil’s soul vacations? Or is Jackson just being dry and the reporter didn’t pick up on it? Either way, you can’t argue that the Rockets never would have won those titles if MJ hadn’t been at fantasy camp.

If Hue Hollins was competent at his job they would’ve made the finals w/o MJ.

Well, he throws down his bat, he comes racing up to the mound. Next thing, both benches are cleared, you know. A brouhaha breaks out between the guys in the camp and the old Yankee players. And as I’m trying to get Moose Skowron off of one of my teammates, somebody pulls me from behind, you know, and I turned around and I popped him. I looked down and, whoa man, it’s Mickey. I punched his lights out.

Big fan of Rudy T. Might belong in the Hall just based on the Kermit Washington punch.

Boys (and CJ and SG)… Enjoy your sports evening. My cable doesn’t have NFL Network and I am choosing to completely avoid the circus in Cleveland and avoid all outlets that may discuss it for my health…

You stuck with Time Warner, Wally?

And why oh why would Phil be jealous of Rudy T quitting on the Lakers mid-season and leaving us with the future coach of the T-wolves?
/Yes, I know he was sick

Can you imagine if the Bulls had won 8 straight? I know Jordan’s pretty fucking loved even now, but that would have put him on another stratosphere above the stratosphere he’s already on for most fans.

Can’t even argue it huh

I’m on time warner too. My building is in the process of installing Verizon fios which i can’t wait for. The second i can im canceling time warner. I hate those evil fuckers more than I’ve ever hated a company.

The Lakers were playing with an effective (yet 400 pound) Shaq, an extra-hoggy Kobe (he wanted to kill Shaq at this point), a useless Gary Payton, and were playing Slava Mededenko and Luke Walton (a rookie) heavy minutes.
There’s no way they would have won that series.

Completely off topic but this is my first post and I couldn’t figure out how to reply in the appropriate thread.
I hadn’t seen the entire play (or series of plays leading up to it) where AJ lit Finnegan up with haymakers until watching the clip where he’s wired…..no wonder that guy is labeled the dirtiest player in the league.

when I canceled Time warner and got U-Verse it was wonderful. that little time warner pissant was begging me to stay. I said fuck you, I want NFL net and working internet
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:37 PM
Yep. I don’t mind it other than no NFL Network. RoadRunner is too good not to have.
December 2nd, 2010 at 7:37 PM
What is really funny is that all the experts said the Lakers would destroy the pistons, who didn’t even deserve to be on the same court as them.

Slava Mededenko will always remind me of the passage from Phil Jackon’s book blasting Kobe.
“Vitti told us that Kobe has been threatening again to opt out of his contract, vowing “to take Slava with me.”

I literally can’t wait, and what makes it worse is that my parents on LI have Fios so every time I go home i get exposed to it, and then have to go back to spotty internet and no NFL network, among other things. I literally can’t wait to drop my boxes off to their office and be done with them. I had a friend who just cancelled time warner and went with no cable for 6 months until he moved. That’s true hate right there

I never understood why…I watched all the Laker playoff games that season, and they caught a lot of breaks during that entire run. By the Finals, just getting out of the West had killed them, especially with Malone gone and no bench.
Another reason why I never consider ESPN people “experts”, they thought the Lakers would blow them out of the building every game for some reason. Even the game 2 victory was a Kobe buzzer beater away from being Detriot’s.

Does not compute
December 2nd, 2010 at 8:06 PM
But he did leave and they did win so the entire argument is pointless. There’s been a good amount of championships won because someone was hurt, or retired. Who cares what people think what would have happened. Rudy and Hak’s got two rings, saying that they’re champoinships are lessened cause a MJ left is a slap in the face to them.
Hak was the best center in the league and his team was damn good. I bet they woulda gave the Bulls a great series and anything coulda happened. That’s why you play the games to see who would win…except in college football where people just take an educated guess as to whos the best.

Nicely done, drpwmd.

As a Houstonian, I have chosen to quit engaging in this argument because regardless of what you say the MJ lovers and sociopaths will continue to hold true to the unproven theory that the Bulls would have beaten the Rockets both years if they had MJ. Well Phil, you didn’t and you can’t take it back so live with it as Rudy T tells you to shut up and look at the scoreboard.
