Pat Bowlen Issues Dreaded Vote of Confidence
Pat Bowlen Issues Statement: Uh-oh. Pat Bowlen, the Denver Broncos owner, uttered the phrase, “he’s our head coach,” in reference to Josh McDaniels. The full statement also included the phrase, ”we will continue to monitor the progress of the team and evaluate what’s in the best interest of this franchise.” That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of McDaniels. I would have thought McDaniel was safe for at least one more year as Bowlen is typically pretty patient, but a drubbing at home by the Raiders, losing 16 of the last 21, and a fine from the league for the videotaping incident may be enough. Dead coach walking.
November 30th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
He also shipped off a player once thought to be the foundation of the franchise (Cutler) and alienated the team’s best returning receiver (Marshall).

Harbaugh to Denver!
November 30th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
MichDaniels?!
November 30th, 2010 at 1:02 PM
Someone stated they still owe red leather money . I don’t see them firing McDBag with the money owed to him and with the impending lock out.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
This far into the season, not knowing if there will be football next year, I would be more surprised if he is fired than if he is still around.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
Shanahan should be available after this year if they’re gonna replace McDaniels
November 30th, 2010 at 1:05 PM
we still get to keep hillis tho, right?
November 30th, 2010 at 1:06 PM
Thundercock alone should be enough to get him fired.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:06 PM
“he’s our head coach,”
Factually correct.
I’m wonder if Bowlen is trying to find a way to fire McDaniels without paying the remainder of the contract.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:06 PM
I don’t know how any player can take him seriously with the voice he has. He sounds like the pimply-faced teenager on the Simpsons. “Here’s your taco sir!”
November 30th, 2010 at 1:07 PM
bring back Wade Phillips. perfect
November 30th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Shanahan coming back to Denver would be weirder than the corpse of Art Shell going back to Oakland
November 30th, 2010 at 1:09 PM
Did anyone witness Bowlen say this or was this an issued statement?
I thought Bowlen was having mental and dementia problems.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:09 PM
I hope he comes back. I LOVE the Donkeys being a diaster. play Tebow too, I know you can go 0-16 next season, coach.

I thought Bowlen was having mental and dementia problems.
Yeah, but that’s been going on for 20 years.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
wow…that’s embarassing. orton’s face is priceless in that clip. it screams “who does this peach fuzzed midget think he is?”
November 30th, 2010 at 1:10 PM
I thought Bowlen was having mental and dementia problems.
It’s settled, McDaniels stays!

That Monday Night Football with the Raiders a few years ago, which kept showing the two of them on the sideline, might have been one of the most unintentionally entertaining MNF broadcasts I’ve ever seen.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:12 PM
just fantastic.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:13 PM
Yeah, that Cutler, what a loss! And Marshall couldn’t be more overrated. Those are far and away the least of his trangressions.
Eh? You’re a Lions fan, yeah? Why do you care?
November 30th, 2010 at 1:14 PM

Ok fine, how about that he alienated the locker room before he ever coached a game.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:15 PM
Big time Donkey hater. More importantly, I want some one else to get that 0-16 stink on that franchise. coach mcdaniels is just the man for the job.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:15 PM
Dungy to Denver. It just makes sense. Dungy and Tebow shall each get on their holier then thou steed and go on a crusade through the wicked NFL, purging it of all its foulness.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:16 PM
all i see in that future is a baptism turned murder.

If only Jason Elam was still on the team.

Eh? You’re a Lions fan, yeah? Why do you care?
He doesn’t want to be alone.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:17 PM
You traded Cutler for Kyle Orton, Demaryius Thomas and Tim Tebow. We can call that a wash so far.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:17 PM
Josh McDaniels will be muttering “Thundercock” on his deathbed, ala Rosebud
the sled./spoiler alert
November 30th, 2010 at 1:17 PM
he loved tebow before the draft too

Van Alden is a fucking hot mess.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:18 PM
Sure, other than that there’s no evidence that he did. Marshall in particular was basically persona non grata by the end of last year–the whole suspension for the last game thing came at the request of the team captains.
By no means am I going to defend McDaniels, here. I just get tired of people repeating “conventional wisdom” that isn’t true.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Sepinwall’s latest review has a great line about that.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Where’s Stoops?
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
that was fucking awesome.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Jimmy Johnson 50/1
howard schnellenberger 75/1
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Orton for Cutler by himself is better than a wash.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM

I’ll defer to you on this because you know far more about the Broncos than I ever will. And I don’t care that much about being right in this instance.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:19 PM
Being a Lions fan is like being stuck in a blood-filled cargo bin for 2 days, like Dexter Morgan. It scars you, it makes you hate everyone and everything.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:21 PM
remember when you hated on hillis earlier this season? that was awesome.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:22 PM
Aight, just think it’s weird. I could give a shit about pretty much any team outside of the Division, but I’m provincial.
You’ll have the ball when talk comes back to whiskey.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:22 PM
Uh…………no. Zero chance Shanny is anywhere but DC next year.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:23 PM
Orton for Cutler by himself is better than a wash
Which is why they traded for Brady Quinn and drafted Tebow.
Enjoying those 7 yard passes on 9 yard outs?
November 30th, 2010 at 1:23 PM
Look–I know that when your team gets something right for the first time in a decade, it’s a big deal. So I’ll be the bigger man, here.

/cleans out highball glass.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:24 PM
Enjoying the fraudy repeat of 2001? You know that Cutler is a mess. And Orton’s been one of the better deep ball throwers in the league this year. Other than that, though, BURNSAUCE
November 30th, 2010 at 1:24 PM
Between drafting Tim Tebow in the first round of an NFL draft and trading Peyton Hillis for Brady Quinn, I don’t see why the Broncos shouldn’t keep McDaniels around.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:24 PM
doesn’t count…your team had a horse playing QB and that’s illegal.
also, karl mecklenberg was a serial kiddie rapist.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:25 PM
Don’t get me wrong, man. I like Orton. Was a fan when he was here and think he’s definitely a starting NFL QB. But that trade may have done more harm than good in the sense of McDaniels getting his team to buy in. Especially after the Tebow pick.
Cutler is an asshole. A very talented asshole who if he turns the corner and stops throwing picks is better than Orton. Big IF, I know.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:25 PM
orton 20-6 3300 61% = 3-8
cutler 16-10 2300 61% = 7-3
November 30th, 2010 at 1:25 PM
Besides, all this mess is just distracting from the real story: Elway is evidently putting together a group of moneymen to buy the team.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:28 PM

Can you file for bankruptcy twice for the same pyramid scheme?
November 30th, 2010 at 1:30 PM
Huh, wonder if those numbers have anything to do with defense and the running game.
The Hillis story is awesome. Good for him. He sucked last year when he was here, though, and all the revisionist history in the world won’t change that. As I’ve said, at the time, the trade was basically parts for parts. Your part found his niche; our part is a broken vending machine.
Tebow, on the other hand…yikes.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:31 PM
that was bullshit
November 30th, 2010 at 1:32 PM
The evident lead guy just bought a ranch behind my buddy’s parents’ house. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW
November 30th, 2010 at 1:38 PM
Bears and Cutler going to playoffs this year. Good luck with the new ownership in Denver.
November 30th, 2010 at 1:42 PM
I know nothing, GP, just trying to pile on Elway horse jokes
November 30th, 2010 at 1:48 PM
I know. But really, dude actually just bought a horse ranch.
November 30th, 2010 at 2:39 PM
Yeah, that Cutler, what a loss! And Marshall couldn’t be more overrated. Those are far and away the least of his trangressions.
Uh-oh. Looks like somebody lit the Cutler, Marshall beacons. And, um, the defend-the-franchise/revisit-the-glory-days beacons as well.
November 30th, 2010 at 7:00 PM
I am so fucking pissed I missed Gerard’s defense of the NFL’s worst personnel man. Might mini-me has really done a number this year. Hope they keep him around for another go around!
Long live Alphonso Smith!
