The Cal Bears Were Very Blatant About Faking Injuries Against Oregon
All, College Football, Video November 16th. 2010, 10:00am
It worked, obviously. Until Oregon held the ball and bled the clock for the final 9+ minutes of the game to escape Berkeley with a victory. This does not appear to be the kind of tactic Auburn or Boise State will need to try against the Ducks in the title game. [Vid via @Cathryn Tuscow]

He needs to go to the Ric Flair school of selling injuries. Needs more “OH GOD!!! AAAAHHHHH!!”
November 16th, 2010 at 10:08 AM
So, one faked injury?
November 16th, 2010 at 10:08 AM
I consider this the biggest story in college football history.

Boo fucking hoo. Gamesmanship.
I’m sure Oregon complained to the Pac 10 and NCAA, and refs will keep a closer eye on injuries next time the Ducks play.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:18 AM
Kudos to Sean Payton for using pretty much the same gameplan 17 years on. Joe Addai looked just like Thurman Thomas. There was even an egregious special teams gaffe tossed in. Poor Polian.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:19 AM
It should be noted that Desean Jackson went to Cal and Desean Jackson is a huge douche.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:19 AM
Kevin Hardy was really good at this when he was at Illinois.

What are the rules in CFB re: loss of timeouts due to injury?
November 16th, 2010 at 10:21 AM
Marshawn Lynch agrees.

I can’t even look at Parcells now. His caps look like Chopper’s from There’s Something About Mary
November 16th, 2010 at 10:21 AM
Norwood.Wide.Right.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:21 AM
I’d do this all day against Oregon. No team needs to work at a fast pace like the Ducks. When they get slowed down, they struggle. If I were AUB, TCU or Boise*, I’d make sure to do this as much as possible.
*Boise seems to own Oregon, though, so they may just do what they do.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:23 AM
Coughlin is the best of them all. Crennel, Weis, Belichick, and Coughlin were all on the Super Bowl 25 staff. Belichick won without Parcells, but not without Crennel and Weis. Coughlin won without any of them.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:23 AM

November 16th, 2010 at 10:24 AM
I want to say it’s like the NFL where under two minutes in a half, it costs you a TO. Not sure though.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:24 AM
From the Pats Browns game in week 9.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:24 AM
They should’ve distracted the ref so someone could hit Darron Thomas with a foreign object.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:25 AM
Norwood.Wide.Right.
47 yards was too far for Scott Norwood on grass. he only made one fg that year 40+ on grass and that was 41 yards.
best super bowl ever
November 16th, 2010 at 10:25 AM
That is some stupid logic there.

But not without Spagnuolo.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:26 AM
Really a shame so much blame got put on him. That was like asking Matt Stover to hit a 51-yarder on grass. Just not feasible.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:26 AM
it was also heavy with sarcasm.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:26 AM
Absolutely Brotha.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:27 AM
Ya, realized it afterwards sparty. Too wrapped up in searching through Ric Flair flops.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:27 AM
oh, it definitely wasn’t on norwood.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:27 AM
Did sparty just call Coughlin a better coach than Belichick?
November 16th, 2010 at 10:27 AM
I still love Marv Levy and all his English majorisms:
“Fight on my men,” Sir Andrew said, “A little I’m hurt, but not yet slain. I’ll just lie down and bleed a while then I’ll rise to fight again.”
November 16th, 2010 at 10:28 AM
Plus he kicked it with 8 seconds left. You’re not running a quick out to just get a LITTLE closer?

November 16th, 2010 at 10:29 AM
i believe they were out of timeouts. can’t risk it.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:29 AM

November 16th, 2010 at 10:29 AM

The Browns’ Blake Costanzo thinks Cal player should win an Academy Award.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:31 AM

Sparty, I had a meeting yesterday afternoon where literally half the participants were late. I remembered Coughlin’s “five minutes early or your late” rule. I like Tom Coughlin.

November 16th, 2010 at 10:32 AM
The funniest thing was the announcers called this as it was happening, but they didn’t spin it as intentional.
They said something to the effect of “He looks over the sideline and sees the coach telling him, ‘It’s ok to go down.’”.

November 16th, 2010 at 10:41 AM
i was huge on the Coughlin hiring. I will admit that I was somewhat sour on him the year before the Super Bowl because of how 2006 season finished because of how he needed to be pushed to hold his coaches more accountable. He won’t throw them under the bus, and that is commendable, but it has hurt.
/FUCK TOM QUINN!
November 16th, 2010 at 10:42 AM
What, Oregon can’t beat teams without speeding it up and catching defenses off balance? Pussies.

This has been going on all year and it hasn’t slowed the Ducks down. Cal played a great game on defense, that’s what slowed Oregon down.
