Recruiting Scandal: Auburn Verbal Commitment Cedrick McAfee
Cedrick McAfee is a combo guard out of Melrose High School in Memphis being recruited by a slew of D-1 programs. He’s currently verbally committed to Auburn, but Baylor, FIU, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Miami, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Iowa State are also in the mix. The Name Is Dalton, has audio of McAfee’s AAU coach, William Rhodes, with accusations of recruiting violations by people that include McAfee’s high school coach Jermaine Johnson and NBA “agent runner” Carl Reed.
From The Name Is Dalton -
Rhodes alleges that schools from the Big 10, Big 12 and SEC have all actively sought to create deals for McAfee’s recruitment. Translation: they wanted to funnel money through Jermaine Johnson and Carl Reed, down to Rhodes.
Rhodes wants nothing to do with this.
According to Rhodes, he’s now an outcast because he’s unwilling to “play ball” with Reed and now he brings shoe companies into the mix. Basically, if Reed and others aren’t getting paid, they blackball you and the kids aren’t recruited (which further hurts Rhodes and the kids). The shoe companies come in as they are often the main source of sponsorship for AAU teams and High School teams. Basically, if your kids are being recruited and use Jermaine Jones and Carl Reed as mentors, according to Rhodes, they are in good hands.
McAfee is verbally committed to Auburn. Here are his Rivals and ESPN scout pages.

Without looking, my guess is “neck tattoo, TST approved”?

Hernia, am I to understand that you are working for the same agent that employs Carl Reed?

Cedric Z. Ceballos is an American professional basketball player formerly of the NBA, and currently with the ABA’s Maywood Buzz.
Their logo is kinda intimidating.

TBL lost his mind on a pay the players multipost rant in the comments last night. I was surprised that wasn’t a bigger issue with him.

A pro basketball team named Buzz should have their choice of underachieving former NBA stars

Yeah I saw that. Well thought out plan too.

Surely the money generated from a playoff system would be more than enough to pay the players.

Not so. Someone said the players were a drain on the system.

Maybe we could pay the players after the season to have a playoff.
November 5th, 2010 at 5:47 PM
This playoff money is getting spread awfully thin. Hope there’s enough to go around.

I just had two pithy comments eaten. I though we retired Billy Wagner.

That’s the worst, MS, I think I average about 1 lost comment per week. They always seem like surefire winnars in hindsight, don’t they?

BTW, has Simmons been calling Roethliscock “White Mamba” for a while or did he just bust that one out?

They were genius comments (not confirmed by me). Oh well.

Just started since the whole bathroom incident.

Doesn’t Auburn lead the country in past D1 Sanctions?
Are they trying to widen their lead? Maybe they can beat Alabama in something
