Colin Cowherd’s Blasting of John Wall Sure Turned Into Something, Huh?
Colin Cowherd vs. John Wall: We were watching Colin Cowherd’s radio show on ESPN yesterday and tweeted the ESPN radio host’s bizarre comments about Wizards rookie John Wall. After seeing Wall dance during the introductions of his first home game, Cowherd said, “J Wall’s 37-second ‘Yo dawg look at me I’m the man dance’ … [has] everybody else is buying his stock, and it told me all I need to know: He’s gonna end up on the Iverson, Francis, Starbury side … He’s gonna drive people nuts.” (You can hear the entire rant here.) He went on to say Wall will never get a ring. The rip-job reminded us of these comments Cowherd made about Kevin Durant prior to the 2007 draft. Today, Cowherd had an attempt to back-track, but passed. He said Wall was like Derrick Rose – fast and athletic – but that’s not his style. He likes old-school types, like John Stockton (who never won a ring, for what it’s worth). Internet reaction was massive. [Bog, Rick Bozich, KSR, SBB, Sportsgrid]

He’s right that the dance is stupid, but everything after that is just asanine.

First mistake right there…I’m blaming the victim in this case, you could have watched something else
November 4th, 2010 at 11:34 AM
dumb rookie mistake doing that dance. and this is the 1st time hearing about Cowherd blasting Wall. I listen to the best sports radio guy out there, legend Jim Rome. im trying to get my tweets read on the air

I will send you two hundred dollars in the mail to stop putting up posts about Colin Cowherd for the rest of football season.
That’s two hundred free dollars to just ignore this ignoramus.

The dance went on way too long. Someone should have called him out on that, but going beyond that was a mistake.

The dance was overdone. And Cowherd is right … let him dance when he’s done something. Colin loves Rondo – who does have a ring.
November 4th, 2010 at 11:37 AM
Cowherd’s record of being ridiculously wrong is considerably longer than his record of being even half right. What’s the lesson that we should all take away from this?

Ha. Can buy a lot of clues with that buck.
November 4th, 2010 at 11:41 AM
Here’s my question. Wasn’t it the hoem opener? Wasn’t it his first game in front of his fans at home? Wasn’t everyone excited to see him? Didn’t everyone in the stadium get really excited the more he danced? Did he hurt anybody, mock anybody, or anything? Did it slow the game down more than usual. I don’t see the big deal over him dancing in the home debut.
November 4th, 2010 at 11:41 AM
TBL is a great dancer, and even he can’t pull Wall’s rendition off, but you don’t seem him getting all hater.

Wall being Iverson would make the people in Washington ecstatic. MVP of the league, scoring champ, playoffs, Conference Champs. hopefully they can put talent around him unlike Philly.

Cowherd overblew the hell out of this. Wall is a 19-20 year old who is doing a dumb dance. Until he gets arrested for a DWI, drug charge, assault, or has more kids than Travis Henry, Cowherd is just creating a controversy to fill up air time.
I agree with him on AI. AI could have been one of the greatest PG’s of all time if he would have been a team player. 1st ballot HOF yes. But with his talent he could have been one of the top 10-15 players ever.

Define good radio. I think it’s pretty case by case. If you’re listening to sports radio with the sole purpose of becoming more informed, you might be listening for the wrong reason.

“This man doesn’t matter, thus we never talk about him.”
Those were good times.
November 4th, 2010 at 11:58 AM
I’d much rather listen to Cowherd than Rome. Cowherd actually says something good about someone every once in a while, instead of just hating on anyone and everything once he’s got his lifts put into his shoes.

Patterson – Are the callers informed? I like the host to have some knowledge base but I’d rather he/she/they just be entertaining. The only parts of sports radio I can use to become better informed are when they check in with the beat reporters for my local teams.
Outside of that it’s more just laughing at the people that call in having meltdowns or the game segments and giveaways that attract me. There’s far too many other sources of information out there for me to be utilizing a medium that was invented almost 100 years ago for up to date information.

Your boy was beastmode last night (gotta hit those FT’s though), also I am loving Barnes, all energy all the time…great pickup
November 4th, 2010 at 12:04 PM
No, the correct assumption is that there’s no correlation between ratings and quality. 2 And A Half Men is another fine example. Cowherd can brag about his ratings all he wants, but that doesn’t make him not a dumbass.
November 4th, 2010 at 12:05 PM
Right on cue Cowherd remarks on the World Series ratings…

What makes “good radio” is having someone who makes you listen, for whatever reason, long enough to hear commercials or not turn to another idiot on another station. THAT is how it is defined.
The fact that people know all the things he is incorrect on (in their opinion) shows he hits a nerve. What has DiPstick said that you can actually remember, other than en fuego 20 years ago?
