Cam Newton: Heisman Favorite, Fairy for Halloween
1-liner, All, College Football, Halloween November 1st. 2010, 10:15am
Halloween at Auburn: Here are Heisman frontrunner Cam Newton and freshman quarterback Clint Mosley all dolled up for Halloween. The whole team celebrated. A large, muscular black man in a fairy costume. Tea baggers throughout the country will be channeling their furtive sexual attraction into an obnoxious rage. FEAR. Expect euphemisms and praise for Kellen Moore’s passing efficiency. [Photo via]

I will pack his bags and personally move him to his new city if he leaves after this year. Auburn is an 8-4 team without Cam and an 11-1 team with him (maybe 12-0).

It’s going to be bad for Democrats in the House. But they’ll hold the Senate (and will take wagers if anyone wants to assert otherwise).
But while not common, check out mid terms in the early 80s, early 70s, early 50s, and the late 30s and you will see similar sized takeovers.

They are a program in the middle of nowhere Indiana that has won one bowl game in almost 20 years. Why would a kid want to go to school there if football was his primary focus? I know you don’t want to hear that, but that is the truth of the matter. It is what it is.

November 1st, 2010 at 10:49 AM
not really. NYT said this could be the worst since 1938, but whatever
The best, non-partisan projections I’ve seen (Stu Rothenberg FTW!) had Republicans getting 45-55 seats, but with 60 not out of the question.
In 1938, they gained 71 seats in a smaller Congress (had two fewer states back then dontcha know).
November 1st, 2010 at 10:49 AM

November 1st, 2010 at 10:49 AM
Fine by me if we’re using 1938 as the benchmark, just means it’s 14 years until the Republicans take back the White House, and even then it will be a moderate.*
*It’s going to be Paterus.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:51 AM
Fuck the Dems. They deserve to lose the House. They have no balls. I also think it’ll help Obama to have Reps in control of something, believe it or not.
Maybe. Studies have shown that, statistically, more legislation tends to get passed when different parties control Congress and the White House. It’s somewhat counter-intuitive, but there is generally pressure in such instances to find common ground that doesn’t exist when one party controls both branches.
That being said, it’s going to be interesting because even with a large majority in the House, Democrats will still have probably a 2 seat majority in the Senate, where procedural hurdles are the norm.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:52 AM
Damn Husker, if it wasnt for the Husker love, I would be your best friend…you are in my head all the time
I agree, losing the House isnt something I am necessarily afraid of. Other than FOX stroking the Republican party hard tomorrow night, I am actually glad. It will force the Republicans to actually assert themselves and try to fix the problem rather than shouting from the sidelines. Also, it gets rid of Pelosi as Speaker, who I think is an albatross around the Dems necks.
If Reid wins, its great in the Senate, but I really would love to have Schumer or Durbin take over as Majority Leader. Those guys would be much better than Harry Reid, and actually deliver the message as well.
November 1st, 2010 at 10:53 AM

because I’ve been sick of listening to you “Progressives” go on and on for two years about how superior and intellectual you are, here is an article written by HOWARD FINEMAN (MSNBC honk) on HUFFPO, that says…
Separately, and privately, they each told me that they thought the Democrats could lose 70 seats on Tuesday. That would be a blowout of historic proportions.
For the record, the biggest one-day loss for the president’s party in modern times was in 1938, when voters expressed their impatience with the Depression and FDR’s New Deal by voting out 71 Democrats.

November 1st, 2010 at 11:03 AM
from actual smart people:
Tonight, our forecast shows Republicans gaining 53 seats — the same as in recent days, and exactly the same answer you get if you plug the generic ballot average into the simple formula. Our model also thinks the spread of potential outcomes is exceptionally wide: its 95 percent confidence interval runs from a 23-seat Republican gain to an 81-seat one.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:06 AM
Holy crap, man.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:07 AM
Also, re Reagan in ’82: Republicans lost 26 seats. But they started with 191, not the 255 that Dems have now. The narrative, though, was basically the same (and the joblesness rate was higher).
Conservatives are going to win the House, for sure. But casting this as a massive historic repudiation with eternal consequences is silly. It happens to every president in some degree.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:07 AM
I would like to thank the Tea Party for providing me the biggest softball masters thesis topic of all time though. Life hasn’t been this easy for political science students in a long time.
my point exactly. These people, for the most part, are idiots. I’m not voting for Rubio in FL. However, people on here sit back and laugh at any comment that talk about them, WHILE THEY ARE GOING TO BEAT YOUR “QUALIFIED” CANDIDATES!

We’ve really toned down that bipartisan problem that we had in 2008. The compromising is at an all-time high. I’m so proud of everyone.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:09 AM
Conservatives are going to win the House, for sure. But casting this as a massive historic repudiation with eternal consequences is silly. It happens to every president in some degree.
Exactly. If it was a massive repudiation, Republicans would gain all 10 Senate seats they need for a majority. And that’s not happening.
Republicans will probably also gain more governorships, but not as many as previously thought.
But the House will be a massacre tomorrow night. We’re going to see some Democrats who’ve been there a long time, lose their seats.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:11 AM
They’re going to win seats Republicans were going to win anyway for the most part. Long term, those same Tea Partyers are going to have to perform which has the establishment of the RNC scared much more than the people in the Democratic party are.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:11 AM
It’s pathetic going both ways. It’s pathetic that the Democrats were so spineless in congress the past few years and weren’t willing to be as cutthroat as the Republicans were. Like I say, they were evil, but they were efficient. If you can’t push through legislation with a super majority you deserve to lose.
The flipside is it’s pathetic that there are going to be people getting elected to office who can’t name a Supreme Court case. And that these people are so popular in certain places. It’s pretty sad on the GOP’s side that their regulars lost to some of these people.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:12 AM
Exactly. If it was a massive repudiation, Republicans would gain all 10 Senate seats they need for a majority. And that’s not happening.
you should see who’s up for reelection in 2012. That’s when you’re getting your massive repudiation. Not all Senate Seats can be repudiated against every term. 2012 is when the Dems get crushed in the Senate for all this reform.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:13 AM
They’re going to win seats Republicans were going to win anyway for the most part. Long term, those same Tea Partyers are going to have to perform which has the establishment of the RNC scared much more than the people in the Democratic party are.
Mostly, but not entirely. Democrats will get a few breaks, especially in the Senate. Lisa Murkowski may even split the Republican vote which would allow Scott Mcadams to sneak in, giving Democrats two senate seats in Alaska for the first time ever.
The odds of that happening are low, but that they are even there in such a Republican state is pretty amazing.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:13 AM
Here’s some compromise – the blind, know nothing tea party sheep cancel out the blind, know nothing Hope and Change sheep.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:13 AM
To be fair… there were quite a few good things that eventually came out of this. Hopefully some of Barry’s long-term legislative efforts have positive repercussions despite the current bleak outlook.
I’m a Republican for the record.
I’d vote for Mole. How long would it take for me to be eligible to vote in North Carolina?
November 1st, 2010 at 11:14 AM
you should see who’s up for reelection in 2012. That’s when you’re getting your massive repudiation. Not all Senate Seats can be repudiated against every term. 2012 is when the Dems get crushed in the Senate for all this reform
Very true. Democrats will have a lot more seats to defend in 2012 than they do now. If the Senate changes hands, that’s when it will happen.
But that being said, two years is a long time in politics. Much can still happen.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:15 AM
What I was reading in this thread: people trying to apply some *actual* historical accuracy to this, all the while admitting that Republicans are going to win the House.
The whole notion of the “tea party” is itself kind of illusory. These people aren’t some previously undiscovered voting bloc; they’re conservative republicans. Those that self-identify thusly overwhelmingly voted for Republican candidates previously. Republicans historically turn out for midterm elections. Every Democratic president since LBJ–hell, before that–has dealt with an angry conservative base.
All I’m saying is, we’ve really, really lowered the bar for watershed political moments in this country.
