Greg Oden is Highly Unlikely to Receive a Contract Extension
Greg Oden: The Blazers have until Monday to sign 2007 No. 1 pick Greg Oden to a contract extension, but that’s very unlikely to happen. Even when Oden returns from injury – maybe December – he’ll have to fight for minutes with Marcus Camby and Joel Przybilla. With Oden and Przybilla injured, Portland is using Fabricio Oberto as its backup center. But he’s 35 and Camby is 36. Oden clearly has the most upside of that quartet, but his injury issues and recent off-the-court history don’t help is cause. Still, he only turns 23 in January. The Blazers can match any offer that Oden receives in July, though. [Indy Star]

Watching Durant turn into a complete badass has to be tough on Portland.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:04 PM
How is Oden’s on-camera delivery?
October 28th, 2010 at 4:07 PM
oden to the cavs.

October 28th, 2010 at 4:14 PM
ouch, bowie’d
October 28th, 2010 at 4:14 PM
Oden 1 and Durant 2 has to be this generation’s Worthy 1 Jordan 3, doesn’t it?
October 28th, 2010 at 4:14 PM
They’ll just use the “we were already stocked at the position” excuse they used with Jordan. I mean, why on earth would any coach want Brandon Roy and Durant on the floor at the same time?
/This one would
October 28th, 2010 at 4:14 PM
They should be used to it by now.
/Sam Bowie
October 28th, 2010 at 4:15 PM
Too early to tell.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:15 PM
i thought hakeem was 1 and sam bowie was 2 in jordan’s draft…
October 28th, 2010 at 4:15 PM
I am going to defend my Duckworth in that I had it all typed up ready to go, and co-worker came into my office with an work-related issue. I’ll still chug my beer though.

It was

correct.

I have been listening to Steve Winwood’s Pandora channel thing all day. I fucking love this shit.

You’re right. My bad. Wendy’s gave me a root beer with my lunch instead of a Sprite and now my head is awash in sugar.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:18 PM
yeah, worthy came out of school after Jordan’s freshman year at UNC
October 28th, 2010 at 4:18 PM
I’d say LeBron 1, Wade 5.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:21 PM
This is like taking Greg Joly over Wilf Paiement.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:21 PM
Hakeem was pretty good at basketball.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:21 PM
Allen Iverson, Marcus Camby, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Starbury, Ray Allen, Antione Walker, Lorenzen Wright, Kerry Kittles, Samaki Walker, Eric Dampier, Todd Fuller and Vitaly Potapenko all went before Kobe.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:22 PM
Even if it was Worthy/Jordan…Durant/Oden doesn’t compare. Worthy is a HOF.
/Leaving Pippen comparisons out of this

I’ve been Pandora-ing today too, mostly to the Rufus feat. Chaka Khan channel, but I love me some Stevie W.

Kobe also told every team he would go overseas if the Lakers weren’t the ones that drafted him.

Criminally underrated in my estimation…if Dwight Howard could learn how to do half the things the Dream used to violate David Robinson in the post he could be the best player in the league
October 28th, 2010 at 4:26 PM
Hakeem was pretty good at basketball.
Yes he was. Which is why I think Bowie (not Worthy that was a mistake on my part) and Jordan as a draft day skip is a more apt comparison. Or I guess you could do Bowie and Olajuwon.
Either way, it seems, in a Bill Simmons sort of way, that Oden before Durant is this generation’s approximation of that.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:26 PM
sho nuff. still is.

If I had the authority, I’d call a fail on this one, but as it stands, I’m going to take away 30 internet points from you.

Obligatory.

I went to Banaroo a few years back and I was the only person that was excited about Winwood. I was high as balls jamming out to Higher Love, Valerie and the Finer Things. Loved every minute of it. Tripping on Sherman’s while listening to Winwood was pretty sweet.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:27 PM
Fucker should’ve stayed home and gone to Tech.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:27 PM
Hakeem was pretty good at basketball.
so good, in fact, that nobody calls his being drafted ahead of Jordan a mistake.

I think I had fewer internet points than you have money on centsports…so that is an empty threat.

Saw him open for Tom Petty a couple summers ago. They brought Winwood back out during the middle of Petty’s set and played “Gimme Some Lovin’”. It kicked all sorts of ass.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:29 PM
He was such a fucking badass. Loved his game.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:30 PM
All of that.
SOmetimes people forget. I mean that is one of the all-time great low post defenders there spinning around and flailing helplessly as The Dream obliterated him.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:30 PM
That’s badass.

Didn’t he rape the entire city of Cleveland a few months ago?

Spencer is experiencing a double conciousness not seen since the days of W.E.B. Dubois.

na…he fucked us, but we allowed it to happen.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:34 PM
The move where he crosses over Robinson and then does the fake is insane. He was a 7-footer who could move. Just a badass.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:34 PM
Brilliant exchange there.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:35 PM
To add to the Hakeem (I guess Akeem if you’re talking about the guy who got drafted) was pretty good at basketball, I know a lot of people hate to admit it but Allen Iverson was once an above average basketball player.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:35 PM
i would’ve loved to see the 1st 3-peat bulls go against hakeem.
think it’d make for a helluva series. those rockets teams were pretty loaded.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:36 PM
Totally. I would never bet against Jordan, but those Houston teams were legit. Would have been fun to watch.

More big men should play futbol growing up.
Hakeem Olajuwon > Hakeem Nicks
October 28th, 2010 at 4:38 PM
Greg Oden is so going to sign with the Pistons next year.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:40 PM
By all accounts David Robinson is a great guy and humanitarian…that just wasn’t nice from the Dream
October 28th, 2010 at 4:40 PM
Oden should sign with Phoenix. If the Suns medical can keep 35++ Grant Hill and Steve Nash on the floor they can work wonders with this 40 year old.
October 28th, 2010 at 4:41 PM

Suh.

In hindsight, I soooo wish the Blazers would have drafted Durant so the Sonics (R.I.P) would have gotten Oden.
