18. Missouri (6) [AP(21), Coach(19), Sagarin(16)]
19. Florida (5.75) [AP(22), Coach(22), Sagarin (28)]
20. Air Force (5.75) [AP(23), Coach(23), Sagarin (27)]
21. UTEP (5.75) [AP(-), Coach (-), Sagarin (112)]
22. North Carolina St. (5.25) [AP(-), Coach(-), Sagarin (22)]
23. USC (4.75) [AP(-), Coach(-), Sagarin (29)]
24. Southern Methodist (4.75) [AP(-), Coach(-), Sagarin (56)]
25. Arizona (4.5) [AP(17), Coach(20), Sagarin(7)]
Last Five Out: Northwestern (4.5), Army (4.5), South Carolina (4.25), Virginia Tech (4), Baylor (4)
Here are the calculations. I included the AP Poll, the Coaches Poll and the Sagarin ratings for context.
Alabama is a close third despite the loss. They would have remained in first, but I removed the “quality” point for their win against Penn State. It’s clear the Nittany Lions are not one of the best teams in the country.
My system rewards the resume rather than straight W-L record. I’d rather celebrate a 9-3 team that scored some big wins rather than a risk averse 11-1 team. Alabama has a quality blowout (Florida), a quality win (Arkansas) and three I-A blowouts (San Jose St., Duke, Penn State). They did lose on the road to South Carolina, but the wins remain as, if not more, impressive than any other team.
South Carolina just missed my Top 25. They played a I-AA team and had a bye week, limiting the pool of point-scoring games to four. They had one blow out (Southern Miss), one quality win (Alabama), one home win against Georgia resulting in five points. They lose .75 for the road loss to Auburn.
Florida State is ranked higher in my poll. The Samford win didn’t count. They lost .75 for the road loss to Oklahoma. The last four games were all blowouts. Miami was a quality opponent. Virginia and Miami were on the road.

I think I have found Sparty!
October 11th, 2010 at 3:35 PM
This formula is rounding into shape nicely. Good to see NC State get some ink. They’re legit.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:35 PM
I really with Sparty could see our Spartans ranked no. 9 here.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:35 PM
KC – what is the whole thing about?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:36 PM
KC – what is the whole thing about?
Hell if I know. Somebody mentioned Sparty was dead or something. I asked where he was and here we are now… a new meme.

Ah, so it’s a
trap!prank.October 11th, 2010 at 3:38 PM
Shouldn’t Air Force be upgraded to a quality win for Oklahoma at some point, despite that it was a close game? Air Force is #20 in your poll.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:39 PM
24. Southern Methodist (4.75) [AP(-), Coach(-), Sagarin (56)]
No shit?
/pops champagne bottle.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:39 PM
Sparty e-mailed Hakeem Nicks’ peen to TBL?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:39 PM
I also like that Alabama is still ranked third. Good work.
Where the fuck has illformula been all day?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:41 PM
I think there’s only one person who knows what happened to Sparty, and it’s not Sparty
October 11th, 2010 at 3:41 PM
go utep
October 11th, 2010 at 3:41 PM
Stares blankly at screen in disbelief…
October 11th, 2010 at 3:41 PM
They’re probably a top 25 team, but they haven’t shown it yet at all.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:41 PM
Federal holiday, brah.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:42 PM
RIP Sparty.
Long live Ron Zook!
October 11th, 2010 at 3:42 PM
but they haven’t shown it yet at all.
winning on the road at Pitt and Clemson
October 11th, 2010 at 3:42 PM
pssh…”considerable influence” my ass.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:43 PM
I think I have found Sparty!
Where?
Sorry. I was mistaken. It wasn’t Sparty, it was a koala bear.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:43 PM
+1
October 11th, 2010 at 3:45 PM
Musta been the faggy S Carolina unis
October 11th, 2010 at 3:45 PM
WOO HOO! OVERRATED!
October 11th, 2010 at 3:46 PM
I was led to believe that the South Carolina Gamecocks were the equivalent of the Chicago Cubs. Forget where I read that.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:46 PM
I imagine there are a few folks that would take issue with Michigan being ranked, but not Sakerlina.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:46 PM
Good work my friend.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:46 PM
Duffy… you did give penalty points to Michigan for the close game against UMass. Probably would be applicable for SC knocking off a #1 team, the consensus #1 team at that.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:46 PM
No South Carolina? Dumb.As.Fuck
October 11th, 2010 at 3:47 PM
SbB
October 11th, 2010 at 3:47 PM
Oh ya…and your undefeated #20 beat your #8 47-17…This system still may need a few tweaks.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:48 PM
oh, that’s quite dumber than fuck, actually…
October 11th, 2010 at 3:48 PM
Pitt is 2-3 with their only wins coming against New Hampshire and FIU. Clemson is also 2-3 with wins over Presbyterian and North Texas.
Congratulations.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:48 PM
Yes, now I remember thanks. Someone said the Cubs compare to the Texas A&M Aggies, which made more sense.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:48 PM
I do not follow college football in the least, but I know enough to want Boise to be number one just because I know how much it will piss everyone off.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:49 PM
Easy killer…who exactly as Nebraska taken down this year
October 11th, 2010 at 3:51 PM
I’ve harped on NU’s schedule all season long. We’ll find out more about them over the next 3 games.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:51 PM
no Arkansas either, not even in the last 5 out. yet Bama winning at Arkansas is a quality win. at least kentucky isn’t in it anymore, which also was dumb as fuck.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:51 PM
That SEC West is no joke. They are going to nuke themselves here pretty soon though.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:51 PM
Well hello TBL friends. I’ve been out of the loop* for 6 weeks. Who wants to fill me in on what’s goin’ on?
*hiding under a rock as to avoid the embarassing 0-5 start.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:51 PM
Yeah Ty, S.Car being out of the top 25 is a little hard to swallow. LSU being close to the cream of the crop goes down very smooth.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:52 PM
Too bad there aren’t open comments here…if there were, I would drop this link onto a cpl of SC message bds, and all Hell would break loose.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:53 PM
You mean undefeated #13.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:53 PM
Well hello TBL friends. I’ve been out of the loop* for 6 weeks. Who wants to fill me in on what’s goin’ on?
Sparty went to the bathroom and got lost.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:53 PM
why is oregons win over stanford emphatic but osus over miami isnt?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:53 PM
Congratulations.
a win is a win
/Urban Meyer’d
October 11th, 2010 at 3:54 PM
WHOA. What a second. I haven’t been in here for a while, but what the fuck was Kentucky doing anywhere NEAR a top 25 poll?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:55 PM
I can only imagine the number of Sparty Justice’d jokes this has lead to.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:55 PM
so did i miss it or was there no roundup this morning?
October 11th, 2010 at 3:56 PM
It’s not too bad, but I definitely understand why you would enjoy that. I probably would too, but only once I think.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:56 PM
because you’d had to have watched the miami/OSU game to see how emphatic it was and michigan/ND was on at the same time.
/science
October 11th, 2010 at 3:57 PM
The ole’ ball coach just threw his visor @ you….
October 11th, 2010 at 3:57 PM
Ohio State will finish 7-5.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:58 PM
at least for the last 2 weeks GSG.
Ritty, thanks for the Finebaum link, this shit is awesome.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:58 PM
+1
October 11th, 2010 at 3:58 PM
Agreed. It’s only too bad for that one specific instance…by NO NO NO means would I really want open comments.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:59 PM
Maybe. Maybe not.
/Yes.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:59 PM
I just don’t see how South Carolina isn’t ranked. I know these don’t mean anything, but that fact makes this list impossible to take seriously.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:59 PM
Pitt’s awful – they lost to Notre Dame.
Clemson? Really? I think Miami will get their act together but those wins are nothing to really hang your hat on at this point in the season.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:00 PM
October 11th, 2010 at 4:02 PM
quote fail.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:03 PM
GSG…you going to the game this weekend? I’ll be down.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:03 PM
I can usually stand it for about 30 minutes every couple days or so. And don’t worry, it will regress as the afternoon goes on.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:04 PM
Wait a minute… jNWU lost to PURDUE?
…
…
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
/it’s going to really hurt now when they beat Iowa
October 11th, 2010 at 4:06 PM
awful*. Guff.
I’ll be working it for WLAP. You’ll have fun killing that UK defense all game. See if you can find the tent we set up in front of the stadium. Look for Dick Gabriel.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:06 PM
sad but true Jthussler. cant argue with that
October 11th, 2010 at 4:07 PM
Any lawyers on here?
October 11th, 2010 at 4:08 PM
Um, yep. But I’m afraid of what questions the GrapeApe might ask…
October 11th, 2010 at 4:09 PM
I’m afraid of what questions the GrapeApe might ask
I had the exact opposite reaction. I’m not a lwayer and I can’t wait to see where this is heading
October 11th, 2010 at 4:09 PM
There is gonna be some crazy child eating clown people out there tonight
/sorry if it’s duckworth
October 11th, 2010 at 4:11 PM
can you point on the doll where he touched you?
October 11th, 2010 at 4:11 PM
Now, now.
If I am continuing to work under an employment agreement that expired Oct. 1st that requires me to give a 90 day notice of resignation, is that 90 day notice still in effect?
I have been offered and new contract with the same notice period, but want to reduce it to 30 days. I have a feeling that’s not going to go over too well. If the employer and I can’t agree on a new contract, can I walk at any time or do I still have to give 90 days?
October 11th, 2010 at 4:14 PM
Anyone who listens to ICP is a fucking idiot, so that connection makes sense.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:15 PM
GrapeApe:
I’d have to read the contract to give you a fully informed opinion, but generally speaking I would say you could walk at any time. What would potentially be stopping you…does the 90 day notice involve non-compete issues?
October 11th, 2010 at 4:16 PM
I thought it was hilarious, that these fuckin juggalo idiots took these guys serious. They’ll probably end up killing innocent things tonight. what a bunch of shitheads.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:18 PM
I’m no lawyer, but I’m guessing they could claim I negatively effected them by not giving them enough time to find a replacement or develop a contingency plan. There is a non-compete, but wouldn’t apply because I’d be working outside the range that it covers.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:19 PM
GrapeApe’s contract situation is a hot mess.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:20 PM
And uh……11-5 ain’t so bad………
October 11th, 2010 at 4:21 PM
In legal terms, yes, it is a hot mess.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:22 PM
GrapeApe…unless your talent is “unique” so to speak, I doubt seriously a 90-day termination clause in an employment contract would be upheld by many courts, outside of a non-compete issue.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:22 PM
If it makes you feel any better, this year’s Niners maybe one of the best 0-5 teams in league history.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:24 PM
That’s what I thought, and I doubt they would waste the time and $$ to take me to court to make a point. Besides as it stands, I am actually leaving under good terms, just don’t want to stick around for 3 months if I have something else in place. Of course, once they find out I’m bolting, bridges may be set aflame.
I guess we’d all love to believe our talents are unique……….
October 11th, 2010 at 4:25 PM
If it makes you feel any better, this year’s Niners maybe one of the best 0-5 teams in league history.
I’m no longer at the point in my life where I’m willing to say that outloud.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:27 PM
“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”

Not if you let my daughter go.
October 11th, 2010 at 4:36 PM
And uh……11-5 ain’t so bad………
Not bad at all.
GO NINERS!!!
October 11th, 2010 at 4:46 PM
Cannot understand any ranking system that has two teams with the same number of losses (Alabama and South Carolina), but are ranked 25 spots apart, and the team that beat the other team head to head is the team that is ranked 25 spots lower.
October 11th, 2010 at 5:49 PM
+1 GrapeApe. I can’t believe we live in a world that allowed Liam Neeson to be an action star. Great line or not, that is suspending disbelief to an amazing degree.
October 11th, 2010 at 9:01 PM
It’s not hard to understand the ratings system. It ranks teams based on accomplishment. South Carolina played four games that counted on my system. Three wins one loss. Alabama has played six games so has five wins one loss. Alabama has two top wins. South Carolina has one. Not that fucking hard.

how did Oklahoma State get ranked based on accomplishment? Washington State, Troy, TAMU, Tulsa and Louisiana Lafayette? You’ve got them ranked 14th. I don’t think any of those count as good wins.
