Jim Mora Doesn’t Like Doug Gottlieb’s Line of Questioning: “Is This Your First Interview?”
Doug Gottlieb was filling in for Colin Cowherd today on ESPN Radio and had former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora as a guest. Gottlieb pressed Mora about Mike Vick – he coached the current Eagles’ QB – and then stumbled on a question about Donovan McNabb’s return to Philly. Then, around the 1:40 mark, Mora ripped Gottlieb: “Is this your first interview? Jesus Christ, what kind of questions are these?” Mora closes with: “You were a real joy, thanks.”

A real Kent Brockman, that Doug Gottlieb.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:25 PM
Nice to know that Mora Jr. is still a prick.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:25 PM
“which Mora?
Jr.
“Gottlieb has an annoying voice.”

lot of sexual tension in this interview
September 30th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
lol weeze. Fuck Gottlieb Mora should have pressed him about why he was kicked off of ND’s Basketball team. HOW SHOULD EVERYONE FEEL!?…Dickhead.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
Steve Czaban rules!
September 30th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
Did Gottlieb steal Mora’s credit cards, too?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:27 PM
Dumb question from Gottlieb, IMO
massive overreaction from Mora, who seems a lot like his dad
September 30th, 2010 at 12:28 PM
Gottlieb went over the line with “still be coach of the Falcons”.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
Doug Gottlieb gives the people’s eyebrow when he talks.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:29 PM
Amazing how fast that got put on YouTube. Cowherd moves the meter by getting under people’s skin but at least he can be funny and knowledgeable. Gottlieb just gets under your skin, nothing more.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:30 PM
To be fair, the average sports talk radio listener was probably on the edge of their seat shouting, “COME ON! TELL ME HOW I SHOULD FEEL!!”
He does but oddly looks nothing like him. Weird.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
his dad was funny with his overreactions. mora jr just comes off sounding like an ass all the time.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
Dumb questions but those are sports radio questions for you. If he didnt want to do a stupid sports radio interview he couldve turned it down.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Man this whole interview just drips of douchyness…
September 30th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
Gottlieb knows his college hoops. He has no business interviewing a NFL coach.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:33 PM
It was on a tee.

Doc Rivers son Austin Rivers has committed to Duke
September 30th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
Mora needs to get a life. Gottlieb is a dirt bag.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:35 PM
Jesus I read that really fast as he committed suicide.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:35 PM
This.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:36 PM
damn it.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:37 PM
There both d-bags imo
September 30th, 2010 at 12:37 PM
yawn
September 30th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
No shit, guy was trying to get a rise out of Mora and he got one…dunno why he would act surprised afterward
September 30th, 2010 at 12:38 PM
you can interview me on your show. no appearance fee.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:40 PM
Colin’s sport knowledge is horrible.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:40 PM
What I want to know is, what weirdos are naming their sons after them but giving them a different middle name so they arent a junior? Never heard of that.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:41 PM
Is a fucking monkey operating this camera? Is this done in Gottlieb’s basement?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
hmmmm…
September 30th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
This interview smells like a bag of dicks.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
I did that…but when your middle name is “Edgar” you refuse to punish anyone with it. Even my dad said if he made it to the hospital in enough time he would’ve altered my name after my moms gave it to me.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:42 PM
That was deliciously awkward.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
Just finished watching this. Why didn’t Gottlieb just ask Mora what his favorite color was, too?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:43 PM
do it, GSG!
September 30th, 2010 at 12:44 PM

September 30th, 2010 at 12:44 PM
I think it pissed Mora off when Dougie Credit Card said something like “how do is make you feel to think that you would still be the coach of the atlanta falcons if Vick hadn’t been lazy and bought into the system back then.”
I tend to agree with Mora that the questions were pretty douchey

September 30th, 2010 at 12:47 PM
lol.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:47 PM
Really? No joke, I have at least 2 friends that have the same name as their fathers, except for the middle name.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Agreed…he, Jay Bilas and Bob Knight are the only college basketball people at ESPN that actually know anything about the sport.
Digger, Vitale, and Hubert Davis should be euthanized for their own benefit.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:49 PM
Whats the point? I am not a fan of the naming after the father thing in general, but if youre gonna do it, isnt it so you can carry a Jr, III, IV to generations?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Same thing.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Never actually met a “III”. Usually the Jr. gets so fed up with being called “Junior” their whole life that they give the kid something completely different.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:50 PM
Does a different middle name eliminate the possibility of being called a “Jr”?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:52 PM
Fran Fraschilla is very good.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:52 PM
the actual name is many times a family tradition. on my mom’s side, the family tradition for generations has been the first born son has “Mark” either as a first or middle name.

Cursed – was Norton on the show today?
September 30th, 2010 at 12:54 PM
I know a VII…and he’s a tremendous douche.
yes
September 30th, 2010 at 12:54 PM
He should have asked if he still bites his nails.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Trey is a III.

I still don’t understand how people can hate Knight. He’s a little bit too forward sometimes, but watching him dissect film is almost erotic.

One day before his offical visit to UNC? A week after he said he was taking all his offical visits? Crazy if true.
September 30th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
what side does jay williams fall on
September 30th, 2010 at 12:57 PM
my dad and brother have the same first name. I think my brother would have been given the same middle name as my dad, but my dad has always hated the name Bruce, so he spared my brother of it.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:00 PM
Not very good on the camera, relies too much on talking about his playing days, too buddy-buddy with the players.
Could improve though, he’s young.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:02 PM
Greatshatner – he wasnn’t supposed to be. I’m two days behind on O&A, but will also have to hear Howard’s show today.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:03 PM
Depsite his hyena laugh, I like Hubert. He’ll give his former rivals credit when credit is due and is generally pretty accurate with his analysis. He’s not quite put the homerism aside, he had a real difficult time trying to hide his Heel side during the last game at CIS and the Air Jordan 25th Anniversary game with the terrible silver uniforms. Vitale has completely lost touch and Digger is curmudgeonly enough to make Billy Packer blush.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Trey is a III.
as are nearly all white guys nicknamed Trey. Black guys, not so much.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:06 PM
Gottlieb dug himself a huge hole explaining his question (which, should tell you how crappy the question really was) and Mora took the opportunity to shove Gottlieb into the hole.
Neither guy acquitted themselves well there.
I might be a little out of it…..I never was a big fan of Jim Mora Jr, but where did Gottlieb come from? Never heard of him until this post, actually. Should I be happy about that?
September 30th, 2010 at 1:06 PM

college hoops player, I’m pretty sure. Also, a turd.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:07 PM
I never was a big fan of Jim Mora Jr,
not a good coordinator, not a good head coach.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:08 PM
played point guard for Notre Dame…stole a teammate’s credit card…kicked off team…joined Okie State…career assists record holder…flamed out in Europe…slowly risen up the ranks in ESPN’s radio shows and college basketball coverage.

Cowherd can be annoying sometimes but Gottlieb is a bitch. I was dissapointed when I heard him on the radio a minute ago. Fuck that guy.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:22 PM
Gottlieb: Hey Jim, don’t you think it’s messed up that you’re fired because Vick screwed you.
Mora Jr.: I came on here to praise the dude, why are you trying to set me up you little prick.
Gottlieb: Gotta go!
September 30th, 2010 at 1:30 PM
Gottlieb is the best.
September 30th, 2010 at 1:42 PM
Good for you Jim Mora.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:09 PM
i’d wager that 95 percent of the people at that outfit should be euthanized for the sake of america’s soul, starting with john skipper and gilligan (norby).
September 30th, 2010 at 3:11 PM
What is Mora so upset about? Aren’t the Seahawks still paying him crazy money for not coach the team? Easy, guy. Life must be good. Who exactly forced you to do this interview anyway?
September 30th, 2010 at 3:25 PM
Mora is right. Gottlieb was clueless and the questions were idiotic. But Mora spoiled it with his stupid “you’ve been a joy” outro. Both were idiots.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:06 AM
100% on Moras’ side. Only thing worse than these questions were the ones you get at political press conferences. Of course, guys like Cowherd, and Gottlieb JUST report on people who actually do something.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:48 AM
Just finished watching this and have read some of the comments. Gottlieb probably wishes he could have prepared better, but you people are being too tough on Gottlieb. He ain’t that bad and knows college hoops. His show that airs at 6pm nightly is pretty good. There are tons of fools doing talk show radio and he is better than a lot of them.
Now, let’s get to this prick Mora. What a dick! What is his damn problem? He’s living the easy life off the Seahawks’ money and doing nothing to earn it. Life must be good. Like Ace Duncan 124 says, nobody forced him to do this interview. What an incredible moron! “you’ve been a joy”. That will go over real well in his next interview for that coaching position at his old high school.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:54 AM
The Vick question was an interesting one. With Vick’s resurgence being attributed to increased maturity, better focus, and a better work ethic, aren’t you a little disappointed that he didn’t have more of these qualities when he was younger? That’s a bad question?
The McNabb question wasn’t too bad, either. Don’t you think McNabb should get a warm reception in Philadelphia given all the success he brought to that franchise?
Yet 8 out of 10 comments here are critical of Gottlieb. Please.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:00 AM
Now I know why this prick Mora is so angry. He was fired by the Seahawks and replaced by a college coach who has done more in 3 games than this moron did his whole time at Seattle.
The guy getting interviewed always has to be more careful in what he says than the interviewer. Mora came across more the fool than Gottlieb did and this won’t go away easy for him. He may have to do some damage control here, but probably won’t. He only got high-level coaching jobs because of his father (who is a bigger prick than him) and never earned them. And he is still taking a paycheck from the Seahawks without earning it. Nice life, moron!
October 1st, 2010 at 10:06 AM
I am just amazed that Gottlieb was able to speak for more than a minute without mentioning that he had played Division I college basketball (like he does EVERY SINGLE TIME HE IS ON THE AIR DOING HIS OWN SHOW, and then uses it as support for every random opinion he has). Should Mora have been more diplomatic? Probably . . . but Mora was right – those were stupid questions (par for the Gottlieb course).
Members of the media should be held to a higher standard. Many of you other people commenting here and criticizing Mora are used to reporters being able to ask anything they want while the interviewee has to patiently respond like it was the best question ever. That is not right.
Gottlieb was trying to bait Mora into criticizing a former player or blame that former player for his own professional demise in Atlanta. Mora stood up for his former player and did not throw Vick under the bus – good for him.
Gottlieb asked how fans should respond to McNabb’s return. Mora gave a great answer – the fans are free to respond as they like – which they should be. If Gottlieb asked a FAIR question, like “if you were an Eagles fan during the McNabb era and he came back this week as a Redskin, would YOU cheer him or boo him,” than Mora could have answered THAT question.
I salute Mora for being honest and speaking his mind. GOOD FOR HIM. Sports journalism would be a lot more interesting and informative if the interviewees all did the same (and thus required interviewers to be prepared, think, and ask good questions).
