Michigan Basketball Collecting Sons of Former NBA Stars (and the Brother of One, Too)
What do Joe Dumars, Glenn Robinson and Tim Hardaway have in common? All were former NBA stars. Also, their sons are all going to be playing basketball for the University of Michigan.
In January, guard Jordan Dumars transferred from the University of South Florida to Michigan. Freshman Tim Hardaway Jr. arrived on campus this fall, has grown to 6-foot-5 and looks like a future star. Yesterday, high school junior Glenn Robinson Jr. – son of the Big Dog – signed with Michigan. As if that trio wasn’t enough, the Wolverines have a 6-foot-9 power forward named Jon Horford … he’s the younger brother of former Gator/current Atlanta Hawk Al Horford.

God, the Big Dog was good for the JPQ’s.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:18 AM
much like michigan football, michigan basketball still won’t be as good as ohio state.

Better alert campus police for a future booze hound, a future hate crime offender and a guy that will probably be hooking up with girls on campus based on potential as opposed to immediate impact.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:20 AM
I remember when Duder said Durant was a poor man’s Glenn Robinson during one Oden apologist session. Good times.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:21 AM
Wheres Ed Martin these days?
September 15th, 2010 at 11:21 AM
A naive younger version of myself believed strongly that Big Dog and Shawn Respert would be the next superstars of the NBA.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:22 AM
Who woulda thought Ice would have by far the better career? Didn’t help when everyone realized Respert was actually 6-1.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:23 AM
Dude was a beast.
Bid Dog had a pretty good NBA career. He just didn’t play defense and never met a shot he didn’t like.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:23 AM
Mich needs Alexander Schrempf and Luke Sikma. wonder why Juwan Howard son is going to Western Mich instead. what about Shawn Kemps son? kid is a beast
September 15th, 2010 at 11:25 AM
the kemps are a package deal and not that many schools have 52 scholarships available.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:25 AM
And couldn’t dribble.
HE HAD CANCER!!!!!

Michigan basketball is on the cusp of returning to glory.
spencer: you shush about OSU basketball. You’re on the record as a CBB hater and admittedly lack attention of the Suckeye program.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:27 AM
I remember when Duder said Durant was a poor man’s Glenn Robinson during one Oden apologist session. Good times
lol
September 15th, 2010 at 11:27 AM
+1 old school Bucks jersey
September 15th, 2010 at 11:27 AM
And its not like OSU is the premier basketball program anyway. Matta is a hell of a recruiter but he is not a great in game coach. I don’t see the Bucks in the final four anytime soon. Everyone knows Sparty is the measuring stick for the conference.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:27 AM
Fat Shawn Kemp should give FNE a ring.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:28 AM
true, but i AM on the record as a michigan hater and will take shots at every opportunity i get.
and my apathy towards CBB doesn’t mean im wrong.

@lefty- Glen Rice JR plays for Tech right? is he any good?
September 15th, 2010 at 11:31 AM
Sad commentary on Tito Horford’s career when a story about the sons of NBA players refers to his son as Al’s brother.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:31 AM
If he plays offense, forget it. LSU will waste him.
Les said in his presser this week….basically….that Jordan Jefferson’s arm is going to have to fall off to get benched.

Chris Lofton > Shawn Respert

I got a good laugh out of this.

Agreed. Who gives a fuck about Michigan? Especially Michigan basketball. Baffling. I guess Michigan gets the pageviews, although I have no clue why.
September 15th, 2010 at 11:34 AM
God, the Big Dog was good for the JPQ’s.
He sure was. Probably added 7-8 years to Keady’s career as well. Just read he may w/ work his boy Lavin @ St. John’s
Problem is, Purdue is stacked in this recruiting class. They had to put Indiana Mr Basketball (Donnie Hale) in a prep school for a year, as they didn’t have room for him. Too bad. Wish he could have played there
September 15th, 2010 at 11:34 AM
No, the fact that you’re wrong means you are wrong.

Yes he does. He’s alright. He can fill it up if he’s on, but he needs to be more consistent. Not quite as good as his old man.

I someone who spent years as a youngster going to Illinois State games during the Kevin Stallings era and who attended Southern Illinois during the Weber/Painter golden age, I am very grateful to Gene Keady, as is the entire Missouri Valley Conference.

really, at this point, nobody expects any sports knowledge at all from you. All anybody expects is for you to regurgitate whatever you heard on sports radio that day, and then to promptly forget even that.

Glenn Robinson III didn’t sign with Michigan, he verbally committed.
And Michigan can have him. He is a 3 star recruit with an offer list of 9olorado, Indiana State, IUPUI, Missouri State, and Valparaiso. Not very impressive. Michigan reached.
