is anyone thinking of top programs as Nice Places to Live, Great Weather, Fine Place to Raise a Family?

These are the mid-major and 1AA programs with head coaches that have been there 20 years. I don’t know of any offhand, but I’m sure they exist.

I’m not sure how you define stable but there have been plenty of career assistants and admin in The U’s program. Coker would have never left but he also never would have won more than 5 games again if he’d stayed. The other guys all got eyes for the pros and moved on for the money. Which just brings back home why it isn’t as desirable a job for the high level, proven head coaches – there isn’t enough money in the program to bring those guys in

and three of the 4 have left for pro jobs. nobody wins a title at one job, then jumps to another college job. they come crawling back.

Best college football job in America means me a place that i would actually want to live, you have enough in-state talent, and a place where other coaches have won before.

4 different coaches have won at miami.

No alumni base for consistent money. And all of those guys won, but how long did they stay? It isn’t a stable environment, which makes for a huge part of the job…

Sparty is right on about this. Saban didn’t want to be second fiddle, hated that he was being out recruited, so he went jumped ship and the awesome Bobby Williams was put in charge.

Tough for State to recruit. On a relatively level playing field with Michigan in state. Some kids are going to go where they’re going to go from family pressure. The advantage is Michigan can recruit out of state as well. Much harder for MSU.

To a degree. When the B10 takes over as the premier conference (which could happen next year) I will be the first to say it. It’s funny, actually. I get so much shit from my SEC friends because I argue that the B10 is a tough league, and then I get shit on here from the B10 guys. Such is life.
