NBA Free Agency: Grizzlies Re-Sign Rudy Gay to Max Contract, Joe Johnson to Stay With Atlanta?
Chris Wallace strikes again! The Memphis Grizzlies have re-signed Rudy Gay to a max-contract, a five year $81.6 million deal with a player option for the fifth year. This is preposterous. First, it’s Rudy Gay. Second, Gay is a restricted free agent. The Grizzlies could have waited to see if someone else made a max offer before doing it. The worst thing to do in the NBA is to overpay for mediocrity. The worst thing to have in the NBA is a GM more worried about staying employed than the long-term health of the franchise. Well, at least they aren’t giving Joe Johnson, who would at best be third-fiddle on a championship team, $119 million. [Photo via Getty]
