The Press Needs to Give Jerramy Stevens a Break
Back in January, TBL ran a post surrounding this account of Jerramy Stevens’ many legal indiscretions in The Seattle Times. Accused of rape, assault, driving drunk – He’s seemingly done it all. Well, for some reason, Stevens’ has decided to talk to the press. In an interview with Pewter Report he was trying to move past the awful things the press has dug up.
That is something that I never thought of before I became a father. It was go out there, have fun, win games, have fun in the offseason and enjoy life. Now it is kind of, ‘Well I did that for seven years. Now it is time to be accountable for somebody else.’
Apparently taking batting practice with a guy’s head isn’t considered part of the “golden years.” He also didn’t feel like addressing something as trivial as rape accusations.
“Yeah. There is no doubt that it was some [expletive]. I don’t think there is any other way to put it. That is why I was unwilling to address it when I had that media conference. I wasn’t going to address something that happened eight years ago that was false then. Nothing has changed. I addressed it then, and I just didn’t feel the need to explain anything that had already been dealt with, and I wasn’t going to go back a year – let alone eight years – to talk about something. I felt like I kept my obligations and I kept my word to Tampa, the community, and the fans of Tampa. I’ve come out here, and I’ve done right, and I’ve done exactly what I said I was going to do. Yeah, it was rough, and it had an impact on my contract situation. It was unfortunate. It definitely wasn’t cool, but that is a part of sports. Unfair? Who knows unfair? I thought it was some [explective] though, just because I wasn’t going to deal with a situation that I had already been through.”
That sounds like the media’s fault to me. Stevens’ agrees.
“That is kind of what the media does. It is whatever the hot ticket is at the time to some degree. Obviously, not everybody, but when something that comes up like that and it is a big story, everybody is going to address it. Yeah, I didn’t feel the need to address it. I think that upset or may have angered some people – that I didn’t feel the need to address that – but that is stance that I continue to take on it. I’ve dealt with it. I didn’t like it. Obviously, it was hard on my family and myself to deal with something that had already been put in the past, or so we thought. But that’s what happens when you play professional sports. You are part of a life that is not private.”
You can’t blame the guy for not wanting to go into detail. The charges were dropped. He probably wishes it would all go away so he could put the “character issues” behind him and get paid. Of course, that doesn’t mean anyone is going to forget what he’s been accused of.

This seems like a perfectly logical place for a TBLAD

It’s tremendously depressing to know my comments in TBL are not being saved for posterity.

Let’s turn this fucker into a 500+ thread.

I know right? That’s like 80% of my productivity at work right down the drain. BTW, MS, back in current posts land Vic Colfari would like some insight into why you would possibly besmirch the good name and reputation of Sweet Swingin’ Tony Eusebio.

Yeah I responded to him stark. But I used Baseball-reference in which to do so. So depending on his view of stats he may just call me a fag and so I don’t know what I’m talking about.
I’m not sure what Tony Eusebio he’s thinking of, but the one I watched for years sucked and his career adjusted OPS+ of 91 I think would bear me out on that.

I have a similar, less invested, memory of the man. I found it hilarious that the guy would be so seemingly tightly wound on that.

I kind of feel like we’re in alternate universe by commenting on this thread.
