Yesterday’s Notre Dame-Michigan post featuring vodka-swilling First Take host Dana Jacobson must have jogged the memory of a few folks, especially a large contingent of still-angry Golden Domers.

A source close to Notre Dame tells us that in the wake of the debacle that was the Mike & Mike roast in January, ESPN’s Trey Wingo and Dana Jacobson both penned letters of apology to Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis, who attended the ill-fated disaster in Atlantic City.

Wingo apologized profusely for a joke that included a word that offended Weis (our source says it may have been “retarded,” but we’re unable to confirm it), who has a special-needs daughter. We’re told Weis sent a kind letter in return to Wingo – signed by his family – accepting the apology of the NFL Live host.

Jacobson wasn’t nearly as fortunate. Sources say Weis scoffed at her on-air apology and ensuing letter, and refused to accept either of them. (A reminder of what was said, if you’re new to blogs and this story: Jacobson, who had consumed copious amounts of alcohol according to the Atlantic City Press, reportedly shouted “F*** Notre Dame, F*** ‘Touchdown Jesus.’”) Weis allegedly penned a terse letter to Jacobson “ripping her a new one” about professionalism, says our source.
