ESPN’s Jemele Hill “Relieved of her responsibilities for a period of time” Following Hitler Comment
According to a statement from ESPN, there won’t be any more TV or .com appearances for Jemele Hill for an unspecified time period (but you can still find her on her blog!) :
“Both Jemele and ESPN.com apologize. The column, as originally posted, made some absolutely unacceptable comparisons. We’ve spoken with Jemele, and she understands that she exercised poor judgment. She’s been relieved of her responsibilities for a period of time to reflect on the impact of her words. Within hours of its posting on Saturday evening, the inappropriate references were removed from the site, but our system of checks and balances failed Jemele and our readers and we are addressing that as well.”
If Mike Freeman ever updates his definitive book on ESPN, he’ll have to add this one to the Salisbury, Easterbrook, Jacobson and Bucher malfeasance. Since her column was in regard to the Celtics, and we’re an hour to tipoff, let’s just use this as the first half thread, shall we? That’s ML Carr on you righ celebrating in the early 80s. Loathed that dude.
